Thank you for listening and growing with us. Narrator: Male Story Begins: 4:09 Dragon Celebration Excerpt: The band of forest creatures made their way along the path until they reached the edge of the forest, right where the path met the edge of the park. In the middle of the park, the pavilion and nearby area were full of people…it looked like the whole town had assembled! Dragon had never seen so many people together at the same time, adults and children alike. On one of the picnic tables was a bright yellow scarf, with yet another tag on it. Darcy Dog always barks when people come to the door. Will this time be any different? Narrator: Male Story Begins: 3:50 Pizza Pup Excerpt: Darcy was a small brown dog with a curly tail and lots of fluffy fur. She lived with her humans in a cozy house on Ahway Island. A big wooden deck stretched across the back of the house, with a sliding glass door that Darcy loved to gaze through. She often lay in the warm sunspot by the glass, watching flowers sway and little animals scamper by. If she looked farther out, in the distance she could even see the dock where her humans sometimes took her on boat rides. Darcy loved her house very much. And even more than the house, she loved her humans. She loved them so much that she wanted to protect them all the time. So, anytime someone new came to the door, Darcy would rush over with a loud, high-pitched bark. She would shout, “This is my house! Please leave! Go away!” Today’s Meditation: Love flows through you in this meditation as you imagine a baby fawn and mama deer. Lydia learns a new trick at her piano lesson – but it feels impossible! Narrator: Female Story Begins: 3:10 Piano Practice Excerpt: Lydia had already learned to play several songs and knew the names of the piano’s white keys. She knew where to place her hands, and she was starting to understand the rhythms and shapes of notes on her worksheets. Lydia was very curious about what she would learn at today’s lesson. “Today, we’re going to learn about scales,” said Miss Bonnie. “A scale is like a little musical staircase. We start at the bottom, and we go up step by step until we reach the top, and then we come back down the same way. If you play all the white notes, from C to C, that is a scale. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Koala Cuisine,” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Male Story Begins: 4:03 Koala Cuisine Excerpt: It was a sunny summer afternoon on Ahway Island’s animal sanctuary. Kian and Kiera Koala were sitting under their favorite tree, feeling perfectly content. The quiet sanctuary felt like it belonged to them alone, and best of all, they were surrounded by their favorite treats: eucalyptus leaves. They had spent the morning eating the leaves they’d gathered the previous day while perched on a low branch, but now they were eager to add more to their tasty pile. “Kiera, look at all of our leaves!” Kian said happily. He reached into the pile while Kiera munched on a mouthful of delicious greens. When Kian pulled a leaf free, it was almost the size of his head. He held it with both hands to show the smaller koala just how impressive it was. Today’s Meditation: Relax as you imagine you are a baby penguin snuggled close to its papa. Tad Toad likes playing in the rain. Tad Toad doesn’t. Can they still be best friends? Narrator: Male Story Begins: 4:02 Tandem Toads Excerpt: The two toads sat in silence for a moment as the rain continued to fall around them – Tanner safe under his big leaf, and Tad next to his little puddle. Tad felt confused. He had always shared his favorite things with Tanner. They spent nearly every day with one another. They liked the same snacks, the same fun games, the same shady spots to rest. Tad always thought that’s what best friends did. “If Tanner doesn’t like puddles, does that mean we’re not as close as we used to be?” Tad wondered to himself. The thought made him feel a bit wobbly inside. Tad frowned. He looked at the puddles, then back at Tanner. “But we always do things together.” Today’s Meditation: Picture floating in the safe and comforting waters of a tranquil pool. Chotu the bean bag chair is losing his fluff! How will he give the kids cozy hugs? Narrator: Female Story Begins: 3:43 Chair Care Excerpt: It was a calm, quiet morning at the elementary school. In his cozy corner near the bookshelf, Chotu the Cheer-Up Chair slowly woke up from a long night’s rest. The big, purple beanbag chair smiled, feeling the warm sunbeams that shined through the window. Chotu enjoyed this peaceful time of morning. He could hear the soft chirps of birds outside the window and the gentle tick-tock of the classroom clock. It was nice to have a small moment of stillness before beginning his day. He liked to think that having this time to himself made him even more ready to give a big, comfy hug to anyone who needed one. Chotu had a special job at the school, and he took it very seriously. When the children felt worried, tired, or a little bit sad, they could plop down into Chotu’s soft, cushiony fluff and feel better. Even the teachers liked visiting Chotu too, especially when they needed a moment to rest their busy minds. Every time someone settled into him, Chotu felt happy and useful, knowing he was helping make someone’s day a little brighter. That’s why everyone at school called Chotu the Cheer-Up Chair. Every morning, Fran asked Fiona what kind of shoes they should wear that day, and Fiona always chose the pretty long boots with heels that went clip-clop on wooden floors. As soon as Fran asked Fiona what shoes to wear, Fiona excitedly hopped onto the boots and climbed inside them so that Fran would know which shoes Fiona thought Fran should wear. It was a chance to go outside and let off steam and be with friends. Brian participated seated in Winfield; they were a team. Basketball was one of his favorite activities; he’d become really good at dribbling while maneuvering Winfield at the same time. Like many skills, Brian had practiced a lot to improve his abilities. Britney wants to perform for her grandmother, but her stage is dirty! Narrator: Male Story Begins: 4:30 Clearing the Stage Excerpt: In Britney’s music class, they’d been learning a song about a dancing frog. As she colored, Britney hummed the tune softly to herself. Britney’s picture showed a bright green frog wearing a sunny yellow tutu, hopping from one lily pad to another. She added some blue music notes floating in the air as a final touch. Perfect! Britney looked at her picture with a big, proud smile. Satisfied with how it turned out, Britney stood up and laid it on the table. She started to sing the song louder now. In the distance, Dragon could hear crickets chirping and the sleepy croak of a toad. Evening was an interesting time in the forest. Some animals were just waking up. Others were tucking themselves in for the night. Next, Dragon sniffed the cool air and caught hints of pine needles, damp earth, and the far-off tang of salty ocean spray. Excerpt: The sun peeked through the cracks in the garage door, making stripes of light fall across Ronald’s big front wheel. The roller yawned a big, sleepy yawn. It always took him a few minutes to wake up all the way, but right now, he already felt excited for what the day held. Ronald had overheard the construction crew talking yesterday. They were going to start work on a new sidewalk today. But this wouldn’t be just any sidewalk. This one would follow the river, winding along the water’s edge. The chair had flat wooden arms which Prince Grey could sit on and survey his realm, and it had a soft red cushion on the seat that the little cat could snuggle into for a lovely nap. At first, the sunlight touched only Prince Grey’s back paws, making them toasty warm. Like…with a hidden camera or something.” Luis’ eyes lit up. “Yes! Like spies!” he exclaimed. “You actually might be onto something,” said Mr. deSouza. “That’s a real thing. A tiny seed falls into a crack in the sidewalk. How will it grow when it’s so dry and cramped there? Narrator: Male Story Begins: 4:04 Sidewalk Sprout Excerpt: A small brown seed lay tucked between two segments of cement. Earlier that week, a breeze had carried it from somewhere far away and dropped it right into the crack in the sidewalk. Then it rained, and water trickled down into it, waking the sleepy seed from its nap. The seed had been surprised by the place it had landed. Above, people walked quickly past, carrying umbrellas to protect them from the rain. There were cozy little shops nearby, with windows full of treats and books. Sometimes the seed heard a honk from a car or the jingle of a doorbell. Oddly enough, the tiny seed couldn’t see any other plants like itself. This was a busy place – not a quiet garden, like the seed had expected. Still, it was quite interesting, and the seed longed to grow! Claude the Cloud rains down on Ahway Island, but realizes people might need some sunshine for a while. Hello everyone! We hope you enjoyed our new stories this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Refreshing Rain,” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Male Story Begins: 3:49 Refreshing Rain Excerpt: One morning on Ahway Island, a fluffy little grey cloud drifted across the sky. Claude the Cloud smiled at the earth below him. He was still pretty new at being a cloud, but so far he really liked his work. He especially enjoyed bringing water and shadow to all the plants, animals, and people below him. They usually seemed so refreshed and happy after a little rain, and Claude had been giving them plenty recently. For days, the little cloud had rained and rained. Now, all the plants were a bright green, the lakes were full, and there were even plenty of puddles to splash in. Today, to give himself a little rest, he decided to just let a little water drizzle down to the earth—just a light mist. While he was misting, he would check in to see how the earth below was doing. So the little cloud listened carefully to hear what the people, animals, and plants were thinking about the rain. Today’s Meditation: Love flows through you in this meditation as you imagine a baby fawn and mama deer. Looking for a podcast to help settle your child in for nap time, bedtime or a break? Sylvia the sled can’t wait to go sledding with Theresa on Saturday! Will the snow stick around? Narrator: Male Story Begins: 4:18 Saturday Sledding Excerpt: It was a quiet Monday morning on Ahway Island. Sylvia Sled hung from her big hook on the wall in her cozy garage, gazing out the small window across from her. Sylvia smiled to herself. Thick, fluffy snowflakes drifted down past the window. Thick snow meant it would stick to the ground. Snow that stuck could pile up. And piled-up snow meant one thing: sledding! Sylvia couldn’t be happier. She loved sledding more than anything, and today looked like it might be a perfect sledding day. As Sylvia looked outside, she heard the house door open. Then came the whoosh of the garage door rising up. Sylvia watched as Theresa, Joe, and their mom stepped out of the house. The kids were bundled up and had backpacks on their shoulders, ready for school. Saira Sand Crab meets a new friend, Sandy Seagull, who shares her interest in treasure hunting! Hello everyone! We hope you enjoyed our new stories this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Shiny Treasures,” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Female Story Begins: 3:31 Shiny Treasures Excerpt: Saira the Sand Crab was a little crab who loved to dig on her big beach for treasures. The other sand crabs would stay near the water, but Saira was brave and adventurous. She loved to dig for shiny things, things that she couldn’t ever find in the ocean. Saira loved the things she found – they made her wonder about other creatures and parts of the world that she hadn’t experienced herself yet. Every time she found something, it was like finding a treasure just hiding in the sand for Saira to dig out! Saira collected all kinds of treasures. From shiny bottle caps to beautiful shells to pretty white feathers, Saira would bring her treasures to the big banana leaf that she called home. The leaf covered a shallow hole she had dug, up on the beach far enough away from the water that tides would never flood it. At night, Saira would snuggle up under the big banana leaf with her treasures. She would wake up when the sun shone through her leaf and then start her day by digging for breakfast…and for new treasures, of course! Farah Fish tries to help her body feel calm after a thunderstorm. Narrator: Male Story Begins: 4:18 Fishy Feelings Excerpt: Farah swam quickly, heading down, down, down, toward the soft, sandy bottom of the lake. She hoped the storm would feel quieter down there. And it did, a little. The booming thunder was softer here – just a distant echo. She could barely see the lightning from where she was, and the water was calm and still. But even though the storm seemed far away now, something inside Farah still didn’t feel quite right. She paused next to a sturdy rock and tried to notice what her body felt. Bartlett Bunny decides to explore the main room of the animal shelter, and it’s a little overwhelming, but his friends help him feel calm again. Narrator: Female Story Begins: 3:55 Bunny Best Friends Excerpt: Bartlett and Lovina were a bonded pair: best friends forever. They longed to have a forever home and a family to love. But for now, while they waited, they were comfortable at the shelter. Their enclosure was quite spacious, with lots of things to play with. They had two tunnels, a hidey-house, two litter boxes, as well as lots of soft blankets to lay on and plenty of room to play and binky. When bunnies are happy, they do binkies. A binky is a special kind of jump, where the bunny flings themself into the air as if they have springs in their paws. Bartlett’s best binkies had mid-air twists and even some butt wiggles. Lovina’s binkies often included straight leaps into the air and tail wags. The thing all their binkies had common was joy. Oceana Sea Otter feels bored! How is she supposed to make her own fun? Narrator: Male Story Begins: 4:14 Swim Dance Party Excerpt: It was a lovely day on Ahway Island. Narrator: Female Story Begins: 3:55 Awesome Audition Excerpt: At school, during music class, the teacher announced auditions for the upcoming school musical. Liam got very excited when he heard this because he loved musicals. His mom had taken him to see a few musicals at the local playhouse, and Liam enjoyed everything about the experience: from the music and singing to the dancing and the costumes. Liam and his mom had talked many times about musicals. He always said the performers looked like they were having so much fun. One time, Liam asked how people got to be onstage. He looked out over the waterpark and wondered where he would go. Would someone choose him today? Wade glanced over the lazy river. It looked so peaceful, and he hoped he would be able to go in. Then Wade peered at the towering water slides. Just looking at them made him feel a little wobbly inside. They were so tall! Narrator: Female Story Begins: 4:00 Spreading Smiles Excerpt: Dragon stood up, stretched their wings, and walked back into the woods. As Dragon approached the trees, they heard a sweet, familiar melody dancing along the breeze. It was Gerry Robin, singing her afternoon song. Dragon spotted the robin on an upper branch of an oak tree. Though she was singing, Gerry wasn’t smiling. Dragon wondered why. Was Gerry tired? Was she feeling sad?
