In this solo episode, Tim Windsor introduces a powerful idea he calls the “Switch” and shows how changing context can instantly unlock clarity, courage, and decisive action. Through a gut-punch coaching story and sharp neuroscience insights, Tim challenges the way we habitually frame problems, opportunities, and people. He explores why our brains cling to familiar narratives, how cognitive entrapment keeps us looping, and why switching the frame will disrupt autopilot thinking and reignite agency, creativity, and momentum. This episode equips listeners with a practical, memorable framework called the SWITCH Framework: Shift, Wake, Invert, Trigger, Challenge, and Hold. You will walk away with concrete questions you can use on yourself and others, clear signals for when it is time to switch perspective, and bold challenges to stop trading clarity for comfort. Expect to be challenged to confront what you have been excusing, to see risk and possibility differently, and to practice holding discomfort long enough for wisdom to emerge. When generous hearts collide, something electric happens. Something you can feel before you even understand it. This episode uncorks that energy with Tim's long-time friend and bridge builder, Harmon Parker, the founder of Bridging the Gap Africa. It is an inspiring conversation about what generosity becomes when it stops being a solo act and turns into a collision of passion, purpose and courage. Harmon tells stories that shake you awake, from hippos reacting in a massive chain reaction to communities offering gifts that cut you right to the soul. This episode is not just about giving. It is about connection, calling and the kind of chemistry that only ignites when two or more generous hearts move toward the same purpose. Join the conversation and discover how Harmon and Suzanne Sullivan (Tim spoke with Suzanne on EP # 195 entitled “When GENEROSITY SEEMS HARD”) found each other again after years apart, and how their shared intention is multiplying bridges, impact, and hope across East Africa. You will hear about the unmistakable signs of a generous heart, the spark in someone’s eyes, the pull toward purpose, and the willingness to say yes long before they understand the cost. The challenge: generous intention means nothing until it becomes generous action. It can be a slingshot-sized action; one small stone, one simple yes. When that tiny spark collides with another, a movement begins. The world changes. Not someday. Today. In this raw, spirited, and profoundly human conversation, Tim Windsor and Suzanne Taylor-King crack open the truth about flourishing in a world obsessed with appearing successful rather than becoming whole. Suzanne takes us on a journey through eudaimonology, Stoic philosophy, positive psychology, entrepreneurship, inner demons, inner “diamons,” and the audacity required to grow. The episode pulls no punches, provoking listeners to confront their distractions, their self-deception, and their fear of owning both their brilliance and their limitations. Together, Tim and Suzanne explore why flourishing is not about chasing happiness, polishing perfection, or pretending you have it all figured out. It is about radical self-honesty, embracing the flaws we hide, and admitting what we are and are not meant to do. Listeners will walk away with a powerful reminder: the path to flourishing begins by turning inward long before you try to succeed outwardly. Suzanne’s story of wrestling with imposter syndrome, owning her strengths and weaknesses, and expressing her creativity unapologetically, including through her wildly clever persona, Evelyn, becomes a living demonstration of her philosophy. She challenges us to drop the armour, stop performing, and build a life and business that emerges from authenticity, not expectation. Tim pushes the conversation further, provoking listeners to confront the parts of themselves they have caged, silenced, or sanitized for the world’s approval. This episode not only inspires, but it also provokes. It asks listeners to examine the voices inside them, to question the “oughts” and “shoulds” that still shape their choices, and to dare to bloom rather than blend in. The challenge is clear: step into the work of becoming the truest version of yourself, because flourishing is not accidental; it is intentional, courageous, and often uncomfortable. Yet it is the most important work any of us will ever do. What if the life you're building isn’t meant to be a straight line, but a score, composed piece by piece, passion by passion, risk by risk? In this UNCORKED conversation, Tim Windsor sits down with the unmistakably real and refreshingly honest Sean Frost, a man who refuses to live a single-note existence. Home builder. Real estate broker. Music producer. Talent manager. Community contributor. Husband. Father. Legacy-maker. Sean isn’t chasing the hustle; he’s challenging the entire idea of it, and he’ll provoke you to rethink what you’re chasing, why you’re chasing it, and what it’s costing you along the way. This episode uncorks a journey that starts with humble beginnings, morphs into unexpected opportunities, and explodes into a multi-hyphen life rooted in passion, purpose, and love. Sean talks openly about anxiety, depression, joy, creative hunger, the grind behind “success,” and the surprising truth that even the most accomplished people walk into rooms feeling uncertain and figuring out where they fit. You’ll hear how music shaped him, how real estate saved him, how family fuels him, and how legacy has become his driving force, not as an abstract idea of tomorrow, but as a lived commitment to uplift others today. And here's the provocation: where in your life are you talking yourself out of the very thing that could fulfil you? Where are you choosing safety when conviction is calling? Sean challenges all of us, including Tim, to stop romanticizing the hustle and start activating the life we want. Listening to this episode won’t just inspire you; it’ll unsettle you in the best possible way. It’ll push you to pick up the pen, the hammer, the instrument, the idea—whatever your “thing” is—and begin composing the song your life was meant to sound like. What if the answers you’ve been chasing aren’t hiding in more hustle, more data, or another “proven framework” — but in the shadows, symbols, and stories you’ve been trained to dismiss? In this UNCORKED conversation, Tim Windsor muses with Jungian-rooted psychotherapist (and long-time friend) Lenore Walker as they wander into “the third way”, a mysterious and elegant alternative to our usual binary, fix-it-fast approach to life’s messes and clusterfucks. Instead of reaching for the obvious solutions, Lenore invites you into a realm shaped by myth, fairy tale, intuition, dreams, and the kind of waiting that enlarges you, rather than enslaves you. Together, Tim and Lenore explore why our culture worships intellect, speed, and certainty, and how that devotion quietly starves our instinct, emotion, and imagination. They unpack the Indigenous wisdom about not rushing purpose, the power of dreams (including nightmares) as messengers, and the uncomfortable truth that sometimes the thing you’re trying to slay is your ally in disguise. Along the way, they weave in wisdom from sacred texts, The Lord of the Rings, Wicked, and the “treasures of the darkness,” challenging you to consider that the most uncommodified, honest path forward might be the one you can’t yet explain, control, or justify on a spreadsheet. Listeners who lean in will discover why obvious options often keep us stuck; they’ll see waiting in an entirely new light, not as weakness, but as the doorway to intuition and genuine wisdom. They’ll reclaim the imaginative, instinctive parts of themselves that modern life suppresses and re-evaluate their perceived flaws or “enemies” as possible guides in disguise. This UNCORKED conversation with Tim Windsor and international development leader Suzanne Sullivan goes straight to a brutal question: what happens to our generosity when life gets hard? From bombed-out streets in Iraq to washed-out footbridges in rural Kenya to shrinking retirement accounts in North America, Suzanne has lived on both sides of crisis, and she argues that generosity is not a luxury for the comfortable but a lifeline in the chaos. Together, Tim and Suzanna unpack how hardship tempts us to hoard, control, and clench our fists and why choosing to live open-handed in those moments can strengthen us, restore our joy, and multiply our impact far beyond money. Listeners will be challenged to examine the real source of their generosity: is it ego, guilt, duty, or love? Suzanne and Tim delve into uncomfortable territory, discussing honestly the act of giving to “get rid” of people, the desire to protect their shrinking net worth, and the tension between providing for their families and caring about someone else’s kids and grandkids. You’ll hear stories of bridges built by BRIDGING THE GAP AFRICA in Kenya so kids can get to school, and mothers can cross raging rivers safely, and the surprising way Suzanne’s own professional “zeroing out” opened a door to more meaningful work. This conversation is a call to practise generosity as a daily discipline through presence, listening, hospitality, and small, concrete choices, especially when it feels least practical. If you’ve ever thought, “I’ll be generous when things settle down,” this episode will mess with you, in the best way. You’ll walk away asking: Who do I want to be and how do I want to be remembered? Am I living clenched-fist or open-handed? And what would it look like to choose generosity today, in my neighbourhood, my workplace, my bank account, and my world? What if your worth had nothing to do with what you produce, achieve, or check off a list? In this raw and revealing UNCORKED conversation, Tim Windsor sits down with Gordon D. Melville—known as The Vault—to challenge one of the most dangerous lies of modern culture: “I am what I do.” Together they peel back the layers of identity, worth, and validation to uncover a truth that most of us have forgotten—your value doesn’t come from what you achieve, but from who you already are. This episode isn’t about adding more to your to-do list; it’s about rediscovering your I am list. As you listen, you’ll find yourself confronting the exhausting chase for validation—the endless pursuit of more; more money, more recognition, more success—and realize that the fulfilment you’ve been chasing is already sitting quietly within you. Gordon’s concept of “worth wells” will make you rethink where you draw your validation from and why so many of us look outside ourselves for what only we can give. Through stories of athletes, leaders, and his own life lessons, Gordon invites you to stop striving to become something and instead start remembering who you already are. This conversation is more than inspiration—it’s an invitation to live differently. You’ll walk away with a renewed sense of alignment, a deeper awareness of your intrinsic worth, and a few unsettling but liberating questions that can change how you see yourself, your work, and your legacy. What if the things you call impossible are simply waiting for you to remember who you once were before the world told you what you couldn’t do? In this bold and mind-twisting episode of the UNCOMMODiFiED Podcast , Tim Windsor cracks open a wild truth — before you were born, you breathed in water. That’s right. You lived, thrived, and grew in an environment that would kill you now. You didn’t just survive the impossible; it was your normal . And somewhere along the way, you forgot that impossibility used to be your reality. Through storytelling, neuroscience, and raw challenge, Tim takes you deep into the tension between safety and growth. He exposes how your brain’s addiction to comfort and predictability disguises itself as logic, whispering that your dreams are unrealistic when they’re just untested. Drawing on the strange brilliance of a diving bell spider that learned to breathe underwater, he reminds you that thriving in unnatural places isn’t madness — it’s evolution. What if the “impossible” things in your life — the book you won’t write, the conversation you won’t start, the change you keep delaying — are just waiting for you to step into a new environment and take your first terrifying, necessary breath? This isn’t a soft motivational message — it’s a challenge. A challenge to identify the goals you’ve drowned beneath fear, to stretch your comfort zone until it gasps, and to visualize your success until your brain believes it’s possible. It’s a call to embrace discomfort as a sign of growth, to reframe fear as progress, and to build your own “diving bell” — a safe bubble where you explore the impossible until it becomes inevitable. Remember, you were literally born out of an impossible act — breathing in water — and maybe, just maybe, it’s time to start doing the impossible again. What if your brand isn’t what you think it is? What if every interaction — every word, tone, and experience — is a hot iron pressing into the hearts and minds of the people who encounter you, your company, or your work? In this provocative and insightful episode of The UNCOMMODiFiED Podcast , Tim Windsor uncorks a deep conversation with branding expert Sue Kirchner, founder of Brand Strong Marketing and host of The Turbo Branding Show . Together, they explore the fiery truth about branding — that it’s not about colours, logos, or clever taglines, but about the emotional heat we leave behind. Join us as Sue takes us all on a journey from her days in Motorola’s Latin American markets to her evolution as a brand strategist helping companies and leaders define, communicate, and live their brands. Through engaging stories and sharp insight, she reveals the shocking reality: you don’t own your brand — you only manage it. Your audience, employees, and customers define what your brand truly is based on their experiences with you. And if you’re not intentionally managing those experiences, someone else is writing your story for you. Key Takeaways: Branding isn’t optional — you’re always branding. Every conversation and decision leaves a mark. Great brands are built on the marriage of message and experience — and when they don’t align, trust erodes fast. Leaders are brand stewards , not just marketers. How they act, decide, and communicate shapes the organization’s promise more than any campaign ever will. Clarity is power: know who you are, who you serve, and what you’ll say no to if you want your brand — and business — to scale with strength. This episode will challenge how you see branding, leadership, and legacy. It’s not just about being remembered — it’s about deciding what you’ll be remembered for. What if the thing you planted with hope — the thing that once gave you shade, shelter, and pride — is now standing in your way? What if it’s not growing … It’s groaning? What if it’s not dying … It’s already dead, and you just haven’t admitted it yet? In this raw and thought-provoking episode of the UNCOMMODiFiED Podcast , Tim Windsor amplifies the quiet death of a Norwegian maple on his front lawn into a brutally honest meditation on growth, loss, and renewal. Through the violence of a chainsaw and the silence that follows, Tim invites you to confront the dying “trees” in your own life — the projects, relationships, habits, and beliefs that once gave life but now steal it. This isn’t a story about gardening — it’s a story about courage. The courage to admit when something’s no longer alive. The courage to cut it down. And the courage to replant — deliberately, patiently, and with purpose. With unfiltered honesty and piercing insight, Tim explores the roots of why we cling to the dead, how “shoulds” silently suffocate our growth, and what it takes to cultivate a new season of possibility. Listeners will walk away with questions that cut deep — and answers that can heal: How to audit your “root system” and identify what’s nourishing or draining you. How to know when something’s dormant versus dead. Why destruction often precedes rebirth. And how to plant new beginnings that will one day stand tall again. What if the only quality that distinguishes those who live boldly and freely from those who just exist isn’t talent, intelligence, or luck—but bravery? In this UNCORKED conversation, Tim Windsor sits down with Marine Corps veteran and bravery researcher Jill Schulman to uncover the raw truth: bravery isn’t about being fearless or reckless. It’s about taking deliberate, voluntary steps into the unknown while fear is still screaming in your ear. Together, we dismantle the cultural obsession with comfort, explore how fear quietly influences decisions in boardrooms and families, and delve into the paradox that bravery is not optional—it’s oxygen. You’ll understand why waiting until you “feel ready” is a trap, how bravery is a skill that can be developed, and why the difference between recklessness and courage depends on noble goals and thoughtful preparation. Jill explains how building a brave community can give you the strength to move ahead, and why small acts of bravery—such as having a tough conversation, taking a bold step, or entering discomfort—add up to transformation. Are you just swimming in a chlorinated pool when you were born for the vastness and wonder of the ocean? That’s the challenge Tim Windsor and Barry Long UNCORK in this conversation. The pool—with its clean lines, warm water, and predictable depth—feels safe, but it’s sterile. It tricks us into thinking we’re moving forward while, in truth, we’re going nowhere. The ocean, on the other hand, is untamed, dangerous, and full of mystery—but it’s also where life truly lives. Together, Barry and Tim wrestle with what it means to leave the pool behind and plunge into waters that stir courage, risk, and genuine growth. This episode encourages you to question where you have settled for safe, chlorinated comfort instead of embracing risky wonder. Whether it’s your work, relationships, leadership, or spiritual path, Tim and Barry examine how we all can become domesticated—comfortable, contained, and ultimately exhausted. They then challenge each other, and you, to step into deeper currents where wonder and risk intertwine. Throughout, they discuss the price of comfort, the unexpected ego-loss when leaving the “centre stage,” and the beauty of finding connection in places that feel vast and unpredictable. If you’re tired of paddling in the pool and are ready to dive into the unpredictable ocean—this episode is your invitation. What does it take to shape history, not be victimized by it? In this UNCORKED conversation, Tim Windsor and Craig Minchin explore the life and leadership of Nelson Mandela—one of the most iconic figures of the twentieth century. This isn’t a sanitized story of saintly perfection but a raw look at how a man with flaws, convictions, and an unshakable vision changed not just a nation but the way we think about courage, reconciliation, and power. Listeners will be challenged to see Mandela not just as a distant hero, but as a model of resilience and resolve who chose forgiveness when revenge seemed inevitable, and who showed that true leadership is about serving something bigger than yourself. What if the biggest transformation in your life didn't start with a clean slate, but with a criminal record? What if the biggest threat to your business isn’t inflation, automation, or competition—but the fact that your people, and maybe even you, are half asleep? If you’ve ever felt like meaningless battles are draining your energy or you’re searching for a problem worth fixing, this is your wake-up call. Not every problem is worth fixing. In a world obsessed with solutions, we spend too much time patching cracks while the foundations beneath us crumble. In this UNCORK conversation with the questioner, innovator, disruptor, creator, and artist Sandy Richardson, we shatter the illusion that all problems deserve our sweat, grit, and relentless effort. We challenge the notion that simply because something annoys us, it requires our attention. Together, we explore a deeper truth—some problems are symptoms, not root causes. Others merely function as distractions, keeping us too busy to address what truly needs fixing. So, how do we determine which problems are genuinely worthy of our time? And how do we resist the tempting trap of solving the wrong ones? This episode isn’t just talk—it’s a call to action in which we unpack how to diagnose real problems, avoid the trap of symptom soothing, and embrace the messy, meaningful work of fixing what truly matters. We’re racing toward an AI-driven future at breakneck speed. Smarter. Faster. More efficient. But here’s the real question: Are we truly getting smarter , or are we merely outsourcing our intelligence, allowing our own wisdom to atrophy like an unused muscle? Because, like it or not, we're all part of networks like this, and how we communicate, collaborate, and hold ourselves accountable determines whether we thrive or wither. Join me as I uncover what these seemingly humble fungi can teach about building healthy, robust connections. More importantly, I'll show you how to identify and sever toxic ones. If you've ever felt like you're connected to the wrong people or that your relationships are draining you instead of feeding your growth, this episode is for you. Fungi don't just adapt—they flourish. And if you're ready to flourish as well, you won't want to miss these lessons from nature's most unexpected network. Consider this: what breed would you never want to be if you were a feline? What seven-letter idiom is a crafty and somewhat critical way to describe the complex psychology and behaviour known as "mimicry?" And what seven-letter compound word that begins with C and ends with T is a derogatory label you may give to someone who's just trying to fake it to make it and do it just like everyone else? The answer to all of these questions and the main consideration of this conversation is - A COPYCAT - a person who imitates others. A rather insecure soul, a person who is willingly swallowing a pill of conformity and washing it down with a chaser of predictable mediocrity. A person busy mimicking someone else's moves and suffocating their unique potential in the process. A person squandering their chance to unleash their unique brand of impact and effect into the world. A person who is being controlled and animated by the evil spell of sameness. In this UNCORK conversation, Michelle Martin, "the business leader's success coach," and I discuss the importance of authenticity and avoiding mimicry in life and business. Michelle shares her experience of leaving a successful corporate career to pursue her own path, not conforming, being a copycat, and staying true to herself. Our conversation also delves into the challenges of breaking free from old patterns and beliefs. We underscore the importance of living in alignment with one's true self and the power of embracing uniqueness. Here’s a rather uncomfortable truth … You are not experiencing the change you want to see in your personal or professional life because you are just not dissatisfied or pissed off enough. Listen to this 6-minute & 55-second episode, where I explore the relationship between dissatisfaction and change: the truth that the desire to change is energized and activated by the palpable and even painful discontent and dissatisfaction you and I have with the present state of something in our lives. It’s time to stop lying to ourselves about the things we say want to change but are not genuinely dissatisfied enough to take action. It’s time to grow dissatisfied and become aggressive antagonists of the status quo in ourselves and others to drive positive change. Grab a coke or a coffee and listen in as we explore these questions: Why are the themes of leadership, strategy, execution and AI so vital to Mahan, and why should they be critical to you? How does ego interrupt the effective execution and adoption of new ideas? Do we reward or punish those who ask questions and encourage us to embrace uncertainty? How does "industrialized" education affect our ability to embrace the future? And what can the Starbucks logo teach us about seeing and embracing the beauty of imperfection? During the conversation, you will discover that: AI will challenge us to unlearn what our egos and education systems tell us about how humans will create value. In the new AI world … your value will not just be measured by your capacity and competency .. but by your ability to embrace uncertainty & ask more curious questions. And that to thrive in the age of machines, we will need to double down on our ability to be empathetic and therefore ... more human. Some people, embarrassing me most days, believe that play should be the obsession only of children. But the truth is play is as vital for adults as it is for kids. My grandchildren's playmate, Nana Pam, my wife, and the subject matter experts that I've read all understand that there are powerful reasons why you and I need to learn to be more unabashedly playful. In this 10-minute episode, I read another section of my new book that encourages you to understand the wisdom that George Bernard Shaw expressed when he said, "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing." Listen in and get the neuroscience of play working hard for you and understand that, as GK Chesterton said, "It might reasonably be maintained that the true object of all human life is play." The genuinely unforgettable people who have impacted my life in the most significant ways are untamed and rather wild horses. Regardless of what their spirit animal is, it lives within them wild and unowned. They are unbridled and unbranded provocateurs. In this 7-minute and 36-second episode, I read from a section of my new book that encourages you to understand the power and potential of living UNBRIDLED and UNBRANDED and refusing to be controlled by others. As you will hear, my daughter Melissa is an example of this. Her untamed personality makes her unforgettable and inspires the wiser "cowboys" and "cowgirls" on the ranch. Do you just draw a boundary, a box of rules and regulations for you and others to adhere to and fit in? Are you a "you're in, or you're out" or "you're good, or you're bad" kind of person.? Or do you spend time identifying and calling yourself and others towards a life-giving, positive center to be attracted to and orbit around? This UNCORK conversation with Sarah Windsor (and yes, she is related to me) is all about PASSION, PURSUIT, and the POWER of PRESSING IN. Sarah is an artist who loves creating in various mediums, including acrylics, watercolours, collage, ink, wood burning, digital design and jewelry making. Initially trained in watercolour and printmaking, she has developed and adapted her skills to new mediums, resulting in a wondrous world of intricacy and detail. Sarah is an accomplished graphic and web designer who loves the versatility of the digital world but also loves making one-of-a-kind pieces that you can wear or hold in your hands. Grab a drink and listen in as we investigate these questions and thoughts: Is there an artist inside of all of us? What does your passion cause you to want to pursue? Who saw talent inside of you and called it out? What do others see in you that you can't see in yourself? Sometimes your passion pays, and sometimes it doesn't; the question is, will you pursue it when it only rewards you? What do you see in your mind that you need to get out into the real world? When is it good enough? You will find joy when you release your need to meet all the expectations of others. We need to unhinge ourselves from unhelpful and unhealthy expectations. We discover our true selves when we live beyond our business cards, titles, and job descriptions. It's dangerous to trade the real "you" for something and someone that you are not. And we need to learn to work at a small scale, go small, go slow; go small to go big, and observe the micro within the macro ... in smallness, there is a vastness that we all need to discover. This UNCORK coffee chat is an inspiring conversation with Monica de Wit, an amazing woman I encountered when my wife, my brother-in-law, and I made the tough decision to find a care home for my 90-year-old mother-in-law with dementia. Monica catalyzes her 20-year passion for fashion and interior design to serve and support clients with dementia and their caregivers in transition seasons. Grab a coffee and listen in, and you will be encouraged and challenged to: · Understand you are the "middle man" serving the greater good. · Realize that what you do for others mirrors what you are or need to do for yourself. · Honour our "village elders" because it is a sacred trust and obligation. · Realize that being a business owner and entrepreneur is primarily a "head game." · Use what could be soul-crushing and make it soul-fulfilling. · Unlock conversations with people about who they are, not just about what they do. · And to embrace the universe's "cosmic kick in the ass" as a provocation and privilege for us and others. Here are some of the personal and professional lessons we learned as we shared a drink: You need to know your stats to stay motivated; Slumps will happen ... just keep swinging; Success comes in unexpected ways; You will strike out sometimes; It's OK to take second base; And, if you fall and are crawling back to first base ... look up and find the person cheering and waving you around the bases. This UNCORK conversation is a thoughtful and instructive chat with Facilitator, Musician, Producer and my friend Kris MacQueen. As we explore his almost 30-year journey through 3 very different careers, Kris and I consider this question: How do you uncommodify one world with the lessons you learn in a "seemingly" different world? Here are some thoughts and questions we consider as we share a whiskey: How is asking for "luck" the pathway to possibility? If you want to help someone find a new opportunity, help them see what they have "favour" for and encourage them to step into the "favourable" space others give them. What lessons has Kris learned in the music "world" that can help you "play" better in your organization? What transferable traits and skills learned in one "world" can be used to stand up and stand out in every "world?" Which has the power to uncommodify you more; your character or credentials? At the end of our conversation, Kris shares the most important lesson he has drawn from three decades and three wonderful careers: our "EARNEST HOPEFULNESS" for and in others is what will transform all of us. If we want people to show up daily with passion and purpose to execute a mission - we must create a movement, not just give a mandate. In private practice, Erin combines all three specialties into unique energy & bodywork sessions for clients. She also mentors and speaks on developing intuition, utilizing gemstone energy and holds regular Gemstone Meditations. Here are some questions that energize my conversation with Erin: What is intuition? How can intuition and energy be significant assets in life, business and leadership? How do we go beyond "gut feelings" and actively access the intuitive plane? And the most crucial question for me ... how do we understand and utilize all this without feeling like we're joining a new age cult? Listen to our conversation, and you will discover that there's "information" all around us that we cannot always hear. Like television, radio, or WIFI signals, intuition and energy always try to whisper to us. It's a frequency that is extremely rich in information and instructional wisdom that can be tuned into. But, here's the great news, being intuitive or being "an intuitive" is ABSOLUTELY NOT a gift. It's innate in all of us. You can learn how to tap into it, discover your unique intuitive language and practice it. This episode is an UNCORK Conversation with Hypnotherapist, NLP Master Practitioner, Speaker and Author Lisa Schermerhorn. Lisa and I chat about her new book, IN EVERY BELIEF IS A LIE, and explore these provocative questions: If there is a lie in every belief, is there a truth in every lie? How is a lie built? How is a lie broken? During our conversation, we discover that: - Unfortunately, most of us believe our "truth" is the only truth. - The whole truth is both present and missing at any moment. - It's all about the "lenses" through which we see the world. - It's time to admit that your "truth" isn't as truthful as you anticipated. - It's time to dialogue with yourself and others again about your beliefs. - And to find the LIE in your BELIEF, you must acknowledge that there are untruths in your truth and understand why it's so easy for you to ingest those poisonous lies. It's always better to see individuals and not groups; to see individual people, not groups of priests, pagans, or politicians. When we talk in homogenous ways regarding large groups of people - like "everyone," "everybody," or "all of those people," the reality is it can never be true because not every person in that ecosystem, whatever that ecosystem, is the same way. In this 5-minute and 35-second nitty-gritty episode, my challenge is to see HUMANS, not Humanity, because it will transform you and others. See individuals with individual stories, hopes and dreams, trauma and pain, and individualized experiences instead of wrapping it all up and painting everybody with the same brush. When I see "Humanity" and I see all of Humanity's problems and challenges, this is far too overwhelming for me. What can I do about Humanity? Nothing. Now the first "human" I can do something about is me. And the first human that you can do something about is yourself. Whether it's in your company, community group, family, or wherever it is: Ask yourself this week, what is seeing "HUMANS" and not just "Humanity" mean to me? In this 4-minute and 24-second Mini Nitty-Gritty episode, I explore the wisdom and power that comes to us and others when we live "paradoxically" and play "tug-a-war" with ideas and ideologies. For us to hold tension in truth, to hold tension in an argument, and to understand the complexity of many things in life, we must stop seeing things as contradictions. Instead, we should choose to see them as a paradox or paradoxical truth. A contradiction is ideas that are utterly opposed to one another, very different and therefore at odds with each other. More than likely, one is correct, and one is wrong. Now, when I think of a paradox, I see it as ideas that might seem contradictory on the surface, but once you get underneath it, you might find that there is truth on both sides. We must see it as a "tug-of-war" and pull on both sides of an idea or argument. It's the only way to maintain the middle and find the truth. WARNING: IF F-WORDS LIKE FAILURE, FAILING, FUCKUPS, OR FUCKED IT UP OFFEND YOU; THIS EPISODE MAY NOT BE FOR YOU ... BUT YOU SHOULD PROBABLY STILL LISTEN TO IT. I recently had the privilege of speaking at an event in my local community called "FuckUp Nights." This episode is based on what I shared that night. These community events encourage and challenge us to share and think about our failures as a way of touching our humanity and entering into the lessons that we can learn, not from our success, but by publicly sharing and talking about our failings and failures. As I prepared to speak, I asked myself these questions: "if I am going to share some significant failures and failings in my life, what should I share? Why would I share them? And how would I do it in a creative and thought-provoking way? From those questions emerged this idea: when I was a teenager, I loved albums, vinyl albums at the time. And, back then, those albums had an "A SIDE" and a "B SIDE." The "B SIDE" contained songs that were not as popular, but the "B SIDE" often had some pretty fantastic music on it as well. And here is the truth, everybody's got a "B SIDE" of their story, of the "album" of their life. I have one, and you have one. But, on social media, on LinkedIn, you will only hear and see our "A-SIDE." You will only hear and see our success side. You're not going to hear about my failures, and I won't hear about yours. So, in this episode, as I did that night in front of over a hundred people, I will explore and share the "B SIDE," or in this case, we're going to call it the "F SiDE" of my life, the "F SiDE" of my album. The "FUCKUP" side of my album: 7 song titles reflecting on seven significant moments of failure in my life and the one crucial challenge for all who are honest enough to admit we have an "F SiDE" on our album. This UNCORK conversation with my friend and your historian Craig Minchin is inspired by the awfulness of 10 days and an adventure of 72 days, 6 hours, 11 minutes and 14 seconds. Craig and I UNCORK some exquisite Irish whiskey and American bourbon and chat about the amazingly insightful and inspiring life and work of one of the foremost female journalists of the 19th century. Nellie Bly (born in 1864) found the truth in what we wish was fiction and the fact in the fiction book that inspired her to circle the globe. During our conversation, we press into these ideas: What being a voice for the voiceless and risking your safety and sanity can do for others. How being both selfless and selfish is a reality for all of us. And how the frailty of our humanity honestly expressed can motivate and inspire everyone around us. Nellie Bly was driven to uncover uncomfortable truths and inspired to make fiction fact. She went undercover & around the world. She had real chutzpah and wrote and spoke “truth to the power” before it was a thing. And she harnessed the energy of her curiosity and married it with courage and compassion to create social change. Pour a drink and get ready to work more and talk less. Get ready to move from articulation to action and turn what seems like just “fantasy” into “reality” for you and others. This 5 MINUTE & 6 SECOND mini NITTY-GRITTY episode explores this provocative and powerful question and idea; How do you identify the "pollinators" in your "ecosystem" and partner with them. Why? Because you need "pollinators," you need "bees." You must engage and enlist the people who influence other people early and often. You need the people that others tend to look to, are naturally attracted to or have an affinity for in your "ecosystem" to help spread the "word." So take your idea to them first. Let them smell it. Let them taste it. Let them touch it and let them "rub up" against that idea in such a way that when you start to try to communicate that idea or that strategy or that new thing you want to do, they come alongside when you're not there and they "pollinate" and help grow and fertilize it. Please overlook the rawness of the audio I recorded on my iPhone at the picnic table at my campsite. I just had to get this little idea out of my head. UNENDERS are and were WEAVERS. Listen to this episode, and you will discover the 3 Wonderous gifts the UNENDING WEAVER gives to you and me. Firstly, they give us the gift of PARTNERS & PARTNERING. They help us see that the tapestry of our interconnected lives is a weaving. Connect you and me with other threads. And they weave their ideas and ideals in and through you and me. The second gift the UNENDING WEAVER gives us is of PATTERNING & PATTERNS. They help us identify and address good and bad patterns in our lives. Teach you to “pattern match” with people. And they teach you to be a patient weaver. And the third gift the UNENDING WEAVERS give us is the gift of PERSPECTIVE & PERCEPTION . They instruct and implore us to understand that there are no mistakes in the weaving. Encourage you to relax and submit to the “stretch” of the loom of life. Remind you and me that sometimes we all sabotage our own tapestry. And they equip and encourage us to alter our vantage point and come around with them to see the “finished” side of the tapestry. UNENDING WEAVERS encourage you and help you to turn the rug and the tapestry and look at it from the other side, the finished side. We look at our lives from the back side of the tapestry. See loose threads and messy knots. We see backwards patterns and unmatched and uncoordinated colours. UNENDING WEAVERS encourage us, sometimes with a “prophetic urgency,” to turn it around, flip it over, and see the “other side” … the wonderous and, of course, beautifully flawed tapestry that you and I are becoming .... a tapestry with just the correct number of mistakes. With just enough room for the Spirit, the divine, and with enough mercy and graciousness for ourselves and others to enter in and make us more human. A powerfully beautiful fabric garment that has discovered and embraced the interconnective tapestries of our lives. Not just as a single and separate piece of cloth but as one small piece in one epic weaving of all of humanity for all of history. UNIQUE HOMO SAPIENS who fully know that we are one thread and in need of others because, as a rich reminder of this, our UNENDING WEAVERS have woven themselves into us before they died. UNENDERS are and were WEAVERS. And if you and I become WEAVERS NOW … Wise Weavers who enable and encourage everyone around us to see the wondrous beauty of the finished side of the tapestry of our lives, we can and will become UNENDING legacy leavers. This episode is an eye-opening and practical chat with my colleague and consulting partner Amanda Macdougall about a bad habit, a very bad leadership and management habit that drives your very best employees to the brink and maybe even to drink. Ponder these provocative questions with us: When is a gift not a gift? When is a reward not so rewarding? And why do leaders and managers sometimes reward their best and hardest working employees with the work that others fail to do? In this conversation, Amanda and I unpack some practical and tactical frameworks that will enable leaders, managers, overachieving employees, and underachieving ones to navigate the waters of workload distribution and personal efficiency and effectiveness. And the sometimes tricky and difficult performance conversations that must happen to create a healthier and happier team. Listen in as we explore and learn: What drives a leader to choose this bad workload and people management strategy? How some employees are protecting themselves from the generous gift of their colleagues' work? And how testing our beliefs, proactively articulating expectations, and encouraging everyone to hold their own feet to the fire is the best way forward. Grab a coffee, and let me tell you the tales of woe that birthed this conversation. And don't worry, names have been withheld to protect and incent and the not so incent. Along the way, you will discover that some of you are Mavericks by personality and some Mavericks by leadership. And how socialized Mavericks adapt to create more significant impact and influence. Near the end of my conversation with Judith, I step into the "confessional" as I have an epiphany about how I parented my daughter into a "princess box" and ultimately muted her inner Maverick for many years. This episode explores the overused term but sometimes underappreciate journey of "the Pivot." Whirling from stability to following a dream and recalibrating when the world throws you curve balls like COVID. Join us, my friend and business partner Amanda Macdougall and myself for this UNCORK Conversation with former CTV News reporter, anchor, journalist, creator, and founder of Buff Mom, BUFFnation, and Delish by Design Leslie Gordon Christie. We often love the idea of being uncommodified, but how do you break free from the chains of routine, stability and sameness? Well … you do it, Leslie style and: admit that sometimes you talk yourself out of the success you should be experiencing. You change your mindset and don't let the tragedy you see and report on become a wearying burden. You hire a coach and get your life in line with your values. You get clear about what needs you "right now" and what needs your resounding "no." You water the seeds of who really are and let them grow. You watch who you're getting advice from. You realize that meditation is the "helper" that enables and prepares you to balance your internal and outer worlds. You get really lucky … and understand that luck is, as Seneca said, what happens when preparedness meets opportunity. And you use thankfulness and gratefulness to release and realize your and others better now and better future. So, pour a warm lemon water or lemon ginger tea … or any other lemony beverage you can think of and let's ignite this fiery conversation. This episode is entitled "BLOW YOUR FEARS AWAY: the Secret Power of Your Nervous Farts." It's an UNCORK Conversation with media specialist, television broadcaster, news writer, and FEAR FACER Natasha McKenty. Natasha and I chat and chin wag about living life uncomfortably, facing our fears, and using your platform and your gifts to inspire and encourage others along the way. As we dip and dive into our terrors and tears, Natasha shares her personal and professional journey from being terrified of crowds and speaking in public to being in front of crowds and the camera and "going public" for the sake of others. Natasha encourages you to find an audience for the good news stories and look for the helpers because good news soothes the soul. Our conversation explores how she found her healing by exposing herself to others who have overcome. We chat about how we need to learn to be comfortable in fear or let it stop us from achieving our dreams and goals. And that if you get past the fear, you will find the rush. The First step is the hardest. Then baby steps. Focus on where you are. Get your eyes on something inspiring. Go over the wall of your fear, repel down it and nervous fart all the way down if you need to because nobody's listening anyway. Natasha challenges you and me to "do it scared" and inspire others. And Let people inside your fear. Let them see you press into it and through it because it makes us all more human. So, pour a glass of wine, have a drink with us and take the first step. Cam is the Founder and CEO of Blue North, a fundraising and strategy group that works with Non-profit Organizations around the world, helping them improve their programs, raise more money, and do more great work for others. Cam and I reflect on what the privilege of working internationally, in other cultures over the past quarter-century, has taught us about life and leadership. We pour some tequila and Mezcal and share some battlefield stories that have informed and instructed us over the years, experiences and encounters that have taught us that we are bigger and build better when we listen first and well to the wisdom in the room or the wisdom in the hut. We muse about the fact that we are most likely "dumb-as-a-stump" until we sit on a stump under a tree and listen and learn from village elders and battle-scarred helpers. We reflect on how easy it is to dishonour without knowing, and that bestowing honour begins with reserving judgement. I share with Cam the wisdom I learned on a visit to an Ontario winery that transformed how I worked with Political and Social Leaders in other nations: the wisdom of grafting my experience and knowledge onto cultural root systems in the countries and cultures that I had the privilege to work in. Cam shares some powerful ideas about how impactful communication is empowered by SIMPLICITY, and by crafting and communicating our message "OUTSIDE IN." In this UNCORK conversation, Kris and Cam (and myself: eavesdropper and occasional interrupter in this episode) poke and prod into the mysterious world of politics and politicians. And as we do, we push into ideas like ... What you can learn when you lose. How curiosity and open-mindedness make all the difference. And the importance of living and leading with "NO REGRETS." We talk about How to find a "hill to die on" without "killing people" on your way to the top. And about The cost and payoff of meaningful engagement as a leader. We explore the power of Social Media and the boundaries that make it sustainable and healthy for you and others. And how a bit of levity and a proactive "thanks for caring enough to show up" conversation will break the harshness that can live within the rigorous debate and disagreements that will come from passionate people trying to be great and do great things for others. Along the trails and rabbit trails in this Conversation, Cam … Mr. Mayor … Cam encourages us to understand the power of Authentic thankfulness and challenges and encourages you to understand that: You don't have to go to University or College to be a continual learner. This episode entitled "MindSet ReSet: Getting off the Hamster Wheel" is an UNCORK Conversation with Hypnotherapist and NLP Master Practitioner Lisa Schermerhorn. Lisa and I walk some of the fiery coals of our fears and failures and challenge ourselves and you to explore the conscience and subconscious beliefs, the "scripts" we run and rehearse in our mind – good or bad and how they predict and propel our behaviour. She shared some practical ideas, strategies, and tools to create and sustain mindset "shifts and resets"? And how discovering your "WHY" is deeply connected to all this. If you choose (and it is a choice) to listen in on this conversation, Lisa will provoke you to find the "purpose your the pain." And to give the gift of your pain a new job to do. She also explains how epigenetics may be at work in you. And the importance of understanding that Your purpose doesn't always pay, but it will reward you and others when you find it and live in it. In this UNCORK CONVERSATION, with Keynote Speaker, Facilitator, and Author, KRISTIN LINDEEN, we explore the idea of Generational Journeys. How personal and professional values translate, transfer, and continue to transform from one generation to another. We muse about the privilege we all have to call out the gifts we see in others. And we ask if our journeys are determined choice or decided destiny. We challenge you to make sure you are transferring PASSION, not just process and principles. And we encourage you to understand that ideas and ideals are Caught AND Taught. Kristin provides excellent advice and practical tools to empower and equip leaders, parents, and educators to transfer foundational values to the next generation. And, along the way, we challenge and encourage you to BE THE RIPPLE EFFECT and intentionally "ripple" into the next generation your most essential values. This was a thought-provoking and practical conversation with leadership and team trainer, facilitator, coach, consultant, and my business partner Amanda MacDougall. In this conversation, we explore this provocative question ... if you are giving or receiving an opportunity to become a Manager, a people Manager, is that just a Fantastic Promotion or is it ultimately a Fundamental Career Change? Your answer and understanding about this transition and transformation will make or break you and others. Amanda uses her years of practical experience and research and the results of her recent LinkedIn Survey to respond to and explore these questions: Why don't People or Organizations think of becoming a manager as a career change? What is the cost to people and organizations if you don't? If I am becoming a Management Professional, a People Leader, can you give me a Checklist of things I need to consider? Along the way, we explore the "identity Shift" that must take place. The importance of going back to "school". The emotional impact of going from Technical Expert to Management Apprentice. And how the cost of no longer being one of the "gang" can be a price that even the "pay raise" can not cover. AMANDA'S CHECKLIST Checklist for Deciding to Become a Management Professional: You love working with people (culture) You are drawn to thinking more broadly than your own work (strategy) You are ready to set aside technical details in your day to day work You have good communication skills Monitoring, measuring, and tracking are fun! (workflow management) People come to you for support or advice (leadership) Collaboration is a skill in your toolbelt You routinely take initiative and don't wait for direction Are you ready to shift from being one of the "gang" to setting the example? (Personal accountability) You have talked to people who are in the role you aspire to – what does it take to succeed in your role? Open yourself up to reflection and feedback – because that is what you get in management! What to do When you land in a management position: Make your "FROM .. TO" list Create your leadership philosophy Build community – it's lonely in the middle Additional Thoughts for Organizations Review the employee checklist above with prospective managers Be honest with yourself and with prospective managers on requirements – are they people leaders, or workflow managers? Determine what skills are actually required to be successful and hire for those skills – long-term or strong technical individual contributors may not be the best managers. Approach people management training as you would any other technical training requirements Be clear on expectations, time requirements for people and leadership skill development Ensure transparent support for employees considering management, clarifying the unique requirements and shifts required to move into management Think about "off-ramps" if the move to management turns out not to be a good fit that honours everyone in the process. This episode is a thoughtful and though-filled "UNCORK" conversation with the most collegial Canadian federal parliamentarian. In this episode, we explore the power and potential of our choice and ability to develop and demonstrate calmness, civility, and collegiality as we lead ourselves and others into creating the world we all want to see and live in. This conversation is a personal and practical conversation about the positive potential and pitfalls of life and leadership and a provocative challenge to tame the bully within us and call ourselves to better behaviour and a much better future. It's also a conversation that ultimately leads me to offer to send my 4-year grandson (Jude) to the very center and seat of political power and decision making in Canada to teach our most honourable representatives a thing or 2 or maybe 3 about how to respectfully get along and move things along for the sake of all. Grab your coffee, and let me introduce you to the fascinating, friendly, and fierce (for the sake of others) Federal Member of Parliament, Marilyn Gladu. Over his over 30+ year selling career, Mike has sold Duck Tape to Diamond Blades and partnered with 1000's of customer partners. In this conversation we explore: How our brains are wired for "story" and why master "story sellers" wrap their product's features and benefits inside the story they engage their potential customers with. How to engage your customer by bringing them into a narrative (a story) you believe is good for them. Why it's important not to just tell a selfish story that only benefits you ... that's just selfish selling. In the last episode, I said that the people who are truly Inspiring & Influential are Unguardedly Passionate … they moved with and are animated by the passionate expression of their unique Homo Sapien self, and that they were contagiously Passionate. They feel things deeply … and their passion moves them, and they move others. They are not afraid to show emotion … particularly positive and encouraging emotion. They get angry at problems that stand in their way and particularly at injustice .. they even raised their fist, and they shout and raise their voice, and their glass when they see you win. The uncommodified are the truly “Unforgettable”. If you uncommodify yourself … you will not go unnoticed and you will definitely not “fly under the radar”. In this episode we uncover and explore 3 of the powerful and provocative traits of the Absolutely Unforgettable Leaders and Influencers that I have had the privilege of rubbing shoulders with over the past 30 years. They were Unafraid. Unmasked. And Unashamed … and you and I must be too. Over the years, I have met some amazingly “uncommodified people” (definitely not a dime a dozen kinda people) and all of them, regardless of position, title, (or lack of one) … regardless of their Race, Culture, Ethnicity, Creed, Nationality, Gender, Sexuality Orientation, Social Status, or even their Age ... they made an impact on me … the left a permanent mark .. made a lasting impression on me that I will never forget … can’t forget … and must not forget. After spending countless hours pondering and analyzing what made them so “unusually” amazing … I have distilled my observations down to 9 common (yet not so very common) traits that these “unforgettable” uncommodified outliers all exhibited. (In this episode we will examine the first 3 of the 9) My proposition to you and to me is that if we challenge ourselves to think and act out these same convictions, attitudes, and actions we will be moving (very powerfully and practically) into a new, unique and maybe even novel expression of ourselves. And, by doing this, we will be naturally moving deeper into the heart and expression of the uncommodified life and we will become (as they have become to me)… Absolutely Unforgettable Tim Windsor the UNCOMMODiFiED Podcast – Host & Guide tim@theuncommodified.com PRODUCER: Kris MacQueen TECHNICAL EDITOR: Alyne Gage MUSIC BY: https://themacqueens.ca/
