Book a free demo at Spotsnow.io Podcast producer Goalhanger has become the fastest-growing company in the UK, according to The Sunday Times 100 ranking. Employing eighty people, the company made £37.9 million (US $50.8 million) in sales in 2025, a 321% average annual growth in the last three years. The company makes the popular "The Rest Is..." series. Confirmation that The Rest Is Football will be available globally on Netflix for the World Cup. Most podcasts on Netflix are just US-only. The Alliance for Measurement in Podcasting (AMP) has announced its "cross-platform alternative to the podcast download". The group has defined a "play" for podcasts, as part of four exposure definitions. We're promised more information in mid July. The definition differs from the widely-supported IAB Podcast Measurement Guidelines, and from definitions from Apple Podcasts and YouTube, who are not part of the group. PAVE Studios is to work with A+E to turn six of its unscripted TV shows into podcasts. Shows include history shows History’s Greatest Mysteries, and Modern Marvels; and crime show The First 48. They will roll out later this year. > > > Read more of today’s podcast industry news stories on the Podnews website: and get our free daily newsletter.Classifieds - your job or ad hereNot another chatbot. New Heights is working with OluKai to bring "a football-inspired design lens to a premium leather silhouette with all-star appeal" (or, what the Australians call a decent pair of thongs). We're told that the $160 shoes, called the Mea Ola Nu‘u, continue the company's tradition, merging premium materials with personality-driven design. And, of course you can buy them on Amazon. In Q1/26, 14% of Americans say they have used Netflix to consume a podcast; and 4% said they use Tubi. The data, from Edison Research Podcast Metrics US, will only increase - Tubi announced a slew of new content this week including shows from SiriusXM and Audiochuck, while Netflix's The Rest is Football is being heavily promoted ahead of the World Cup. The Edison Research Podcast Consumer 2026 was released in a webinar. The data shows that a majority of podcast consumers think that AI is a threat to the credibility, creativity and quality of podcasts; and 75% disapprove of a voice hosted by AI. Using data from Sports Poll by SSRS, we also discover that US podcast consumers are more interested in the World Cup (55%) than the population as a whole (47%). Some of SiriusXM's biggest podcasts are to be streamed on Tubi, including Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend, Rotten Mango and What Now? with Trevor Noah. These shows also stream on YouTube, and that won't go away. Advertising sales for video podcasts on Tubi will be shared between Tubi and SiriusXM Media. Is podcasting “cooked”?

Sponsored by SpotsNow. SpotsNow is the AI operating system for podcast advertising. RFPs, vetting, outreach: handled with custom agents. Your sellers close 30% more. Book a free demo at Spotsnow.io Podcasting is cooked. So said Transistor's Justin Jackson, and the Podcast Marketing Academy's Jeremy Enns, in a talk at The Podcast Show in London (which they filmed themselves). Video is taking over podcasting, AI slop will drown out the good stuff, and audio-only podcasts are a thing of the past. They take a look at the data and provide simple tactics for thriving in podcasting - which, yes, is still absolutely possible, they say. Continuity announcements have been part of broadcast media for ages - "in half an hour, The Waltons. Now, though - here's Lucille Ball." Audio Always thinks they have a place in podcasting, with continuity announcements to introduce new shows to listeners. The company has written up how well they've worked. Book a free demo at Spotsnow.io What works and what doesn't in podcast trailers? Coleman Insights has a free webinar this Wednesday to unveil its research - how can you make promos and trailers that work better for your show. Want to hear some trailers for shows in the meantime? Our New Podcasts feed lets you listen to some of the best. Get the podcast here - or add your show. SpotsNow has launched what it calls an AI operating system for podcast advertising. The tool automates planning and pricing, and is custom-built for each individual podcast network, to connect to the way the team already works. "The agents we custom build take the repetitive load off the floor so sellers can do the part only people can do, which is build the relationship and close the deal," says CEO Cam Pritchard. A new AI promotion tool called Kompozy has launched. Promising to "turn one idea into a month of content", the tool ingests a podcast, RSS feed or blog post, then composes a set of social posts and schedules them into different platforms (if you let it) over an entire week. We gave it Friday's newsletter; it gave us a set of decent-looking posts, including quote cards, LinkedIn-like posts, an infographic, and quotes with our Editor on a laptop, our Editor making some kind of presentation, and another photo post - it also does video clips as well. You can give Kompozy a free trial. > > > Read more of today’s podcast industry news stories on the Podnews website</

Podcast advertising measurement “is broken”

Sponsored by Supporting Cast. The shows you listen to probably already use us. 🎙️ Supporting Cast powers subscriptions for some of the most trusted names in podcasting—because when your business depends on subscriber trust, the platform behind it matters. Let's talk about what we could build together. "Advertisers run multiple attribution systems because media players won't align on how to measure ad response. We can't even agree on a shared definition of a podcast." So says the Alliance for Measurement in Podcasting (AMP) - launched to create "the first podcasting measurement framework". Brought together by Oxford Road, the group, including voting members from Spotify, United Talent Agency, SiriusXM, DraftKings, Libsyn and others, have been working in secret since last summer, driven by what it calls industrywide confusion: both a lack of standardized metrics and disagreement about where podcasts end and social videos (as well as other forms of video) begin. The group suggests that "a billion dollars of demand is sitting on the sidelines"; it plans to introduce a new unified framework for use across audio and video at Oxford Road’s upcoming CAO Summit on July 22nd-23rd at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes CA, USA. Our take: A definition of "podcast" is vital - because, without it, it's impossible to track the growth of this medium, and the budget going toward it. The formation of this group, which appears to be representative of the podcast business overall - is a welcome step. It's notable, however, that this group does not include the IAB, which runs existing podcast measurement guidelines, nor the trade association Sounds Profitable. The Australian Audio Awards took place last night - here's a full list of the winners. The awards, which recognised both radio and podcasting, chose Mamamia Out Loud as the People's Choice Award, and included separate awards for "independent" and "major" podcasts. Public radio station WBUR stands accused of "butchering episodes, newsletters and emails" to "hide the fact" that the hosts and producers of WBUR's <a href="https://podnews.net/podcas

Brits love podcasts on smart TVs

Sponsored by Supporting Cast. The shows you listen to probably already use us. 🎙️ Supporting Cast powers subscriptions for some of the most trusted names in podcasting—because when your business depends on subscriber trust, the platform behind it matters. Let's talk about what we could build together. Smart TVs are the new place to watch podcasts, according to new data released this week from Signal Hill Insights and FlightStory - with almost half of UK podcast consumers using their smartTV to watch podcasts. The data suggests that podcasts are competing directly with linear TV and streaming, and most consumption happens 7pm-11pm. It's, says Paul Riismandel, "a fundamental shift in how UK audiences are spending their evenings." FlightStory also released its own data alongside the study. (Of note: while you can watch Spotify video podcasts, Apple Podcasts has no support for video on TV as yet - and, unlike Apple TV, doesn't have an app on other platforms.) Our take: For this audience, video is probably a required part of the experience, although the full research says 21% used their smart TV just to listen. This might also be a marketing opportunity: 42% say they consumed a podcast on a Smart TV with someone else (the typical number for co-listening to audio podcasts on a phone is around 10%). Supporting Cast claimed yesterday that it was the first podcast subscription platform to deliver gated, subscriber-only podcast video on Spotify. Competitors Supercast beg to differ: they claim Supercast has had creators publishing gated video on Spotify since April 27th. The upshot of all of this is that we now have twice the opportunity to offer video as a paid-for upsell (on Spotify). Just a day after we carried an Ankler story with a senior Spotify executive saying they don't do exclusives any more, Spotify has signed an exclusive, alongside Netflix, for Jay Shetty's On Purpose. The deal is reportedly worth $100mn. We'd reported he was leaving iHeart back in March. The show will be no longer posted onto YouTube; but will be available as audio on all podcast platforms; Spotify will handle ad-sales. <a href="https://

Now you can charge for video

Sponsored by Supporting Cast. The shows you listen to probably already use us. 🎙️ Supporting Cast powers subscriptions for some of the most trusted names in podcasting—because when your business depends on subscriber trust, the platform behind it matters. Let's talk about what we could build together. Supporting Cast has become, it claims, the first podcast subscription platform to deliver gated, subscriber-only podcast video on Spotify. The company launches the new feature with two shows - Libero, a football podcast, and Legacy, a history podcast. Partnerships with Goalhanger, Vox Media, Jim Harold's Campfire, Filmspotting and Betches Media will follow later this quarter. While video was launched on Apple Podcasts earlier this year, it's currently not possible to offer paid subscribers on Apple Podcasts any access to video. Supporting Cast is our title sponsor this month; we suspect we'd have made this #1 story today even without that. LATER: They're not first, say competitors Supercast, who say they have had creators publishing video using Spotify’s Distribution API since April 27th. That service is now fully rolled out for all Supercast creators. We're happy to make that clear. In The Ankler's Like but suggests it's still an audio-first format. "Video’s an added layer, but the format only works if it’s also consumable just in audio." There's more behind the pa

The biggest shows become bigger still

Sponsored by Supporting Cast. The shows you listen to probably already use us. 🎙️ Supporting Cast powers subscriptions for some of the most trusted names in podcasting—because when your business depends on subscriber trust, the platform behind it matters. Let's talk about what we could build together. The biggest shows are getting even bigger, according to new research from Edison Podcast Metrics UK, presented at The Podcast Show London. In 2023, to reach 50% of all podcast listeners, you would need to advertise on the top 43 shows. But two years later, you only need the top 27 shows to reach half of all podcast listeners. The data was part of a preview of the upcoming UK Podcast Consumer 2026, to be released later this summer; the US version will be unveiled next week in a free webinar. SpotsNow has launched an Advertiser Campaign Planner, to help advertisers build a high-quality host-read campaign on the right shows for their brands. The tool is free, and is available from today. 51% of RSS.com's podcasters are recording video in some form, according to a new insights survey published by the podcast host. New podcast features from Spotify

Sponsored by Supporting Cast. The shows you listen to probably already use us. 🎙️ Supporting Cast powers subscriptions for some of the most trusted names in podcasting—because when your business depends on subscriber trust, the platform behind it matters. Let's talk about what we could build together. Spotify announced a set of new podcast features. "Users can ask Spotify questions about the podcast they’re listening or watching, and get answers in real time." - this feature is available in the US, Sweden and Ireland for Premium users. Dynamic Creator Sponsorships are now available for creators in the Spotify Partner Program. The feature allows sponsorships to be dynamically scheduled. Memberships (which "will launch for select creators soon") appears to be an equivalent to Supporting Cast, Patreon or Apple Podcasts Premium Subscriptions. Pricing and details weren't given. Personal Podcasts are coming next month to Premium users in the US. It's a tool that lets listeners generate and schedule short, private audio episodes tailored to their interests and their listening habits. Examples given are "Help me understand economics in five minutes", or "Share my daily city updates". After a free set of credits per month, listeners will have the option to purchase more. Spotify also highlighted how its rebuilt ad platform is driving growth (major changes for podcasting go live in July); announced a paid tool to let you remix songs, including by using AI; and Spotify Studio, a desktop app that unlocks more possibilities using AI. Earlier in the week, Spotify announced that podcasts can be marked as "verified", and clarified that AI can't be used to impersonate others using voice clones. The company still has no policy on entirely AI-generated shows.

Spotify to support HLS video for Apple Podcasts

Sponsored by Supporting Cast. Your brand, your site, your rules. 💅 Supporting Cast is the invisible engine that powers your premium experience. Integrate a seamless subscription flow directly into your own website. Stop being a "content provider" for someone else’s app. Be the destination!! Spotify's Megaphone, and Spotify for Creators, are to support video for podcasts published on Apple Podcasts. The two companies were the only large podcast hosts not to announce support for HLS video when Apple announced it earlier in the year. No pricing has been given. It doesn't change how video works on Spotify, however: the company still requires videos to be uploaded directly for playback on the Spotify app. The company also announced live partners for Spotify Video Distribution (which allows your podcast host to directly upload video for you into Spotify). Libsyn, Podigee, Audioboom, Audiomeans, and Podspace are all live with the feature today. Spotify Video Distribution was announced in January; Acast and Omny Studio were both highlighted as launch partners then, but aren't yet live. Spotify is now explicit in the FAQ that if you change your mind, you can transition your show back to an audio-only RSS feed - but the company warns you, you'll lose all video uploads. At a big YouTube event called Brandcast, a number of YouTube-exclusive shows were announced, including four new shows from Alex Cooper's Unwell Network. Exclusive: Amazon Music begins rolling out video podcasts from today. Video podcasts will initially be available for customers in the US on iOS and Android, across all subscription tiers. A spokesperson told us: "In today’s rapidly evolving podcast landscape, video has emerged as an increasingly essential format for creators and their audiences. With more consumers engaging with video podcasts of their favorite shows, Amazon Music is introducing an integrated video podcast experience for customers, making it simpler for customers to watch a selection of their favorite podcasts without leaving the app. This early experience will help us gather valuable customer feedback to shape and enhance the experience." Amazon Music is initially launching video podcasts with Amazon's ART19, and has plans to expand to additional partners later this summer. Initial shows with video include Higher Ground's IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson, and Dear Media's Khloé in Wonder Land, Not Skinny But Not Fat and Let's Be Honest with Kristin Cavallari. ART19 and Amazon Music will work directly with creators and publishers to provide instructions on how to make their videos available on Amazon Music. Podnews is told that the app will use HLS video, including support for HLS multivariate playlists via an alternate enclosure in RSS. Videos remain hosted by the creator's podcast hosting company. A company spokesperson told us that the approach "maintains an open RSS ecosystem, meaning podcast creators retain full control over their hosting, ad inventory monetization, and audience targeting." There is no private API to submit video, and Amazon Music is not charging podcast creators or networks for access to video distribution. A number of podcast hosting companies offering video have already said that they aim to support video delivery using the alternate enclosure.</

Oprah Winfrey's The Oprah Podcast today features guests that are out of this world - or, at least, they were. After their extraordinary, history-making trip around the moon, Oprah has an in-depth conversation with the crew of Artemis II. The crew shares how they were transformed after spending more than nine days traveling farther into space than any human being has ever been. The show was acquired by Amazon's Wondery last month. Spotify drives 1.5x more podcast consumption than YouTube, according to new data from Podstock. However, part of that is due to discovery tools and reach for new audiences - new listeners lower average time spent per stream. The data, based on thousands of different podcast episodes, highlights the increasingly multiplatform world of podcasting. In the UK, podcasting reaches more 18-34 year-olds than broadcast TV, says research from Sounds Profitable, written up by Ben Robins of Sound Insights. The data on the UK's podcast consumers arrives a week before The Podcast Show in London: Ben Robins and Tom Webster will cover more of the data on May 20 at 10am. > > > Read more of today’s podcast industry news stories on the Podnews website: and get our free daily newsletter.Classifieds - your job or ad hereAudio Post-Production Specialist: Kyle Hopkins — Broadcast-quality audio post-production for podcasts, YouTube & social video. The weekly newsletter goes to 12,000 people. Alice Orr becomes the Managing Editor. Exclusive: Million Podcasts has published The State of Video Podcasting 2026 - an analysis of 34,000 English-language video podcasts. This beautifully-designed report suggests that there are 7.7mn video podcast episodes available, but it's very unequal: the top 1% of video podcasts are getting 42% of all consumption. The inequality also extends to who's behind the microphone: there are twice as many video podcasts hosted by men as women. You can also score your podcast against the top ten. Exclusive: Niche podcasts may lose on scale - but they outperform in many other ways. BIPOC Podcast Creators closes

Supporting Cast hands them back 🔑. Build a business you actually own. A community to connect BIPOC creators through education, networking and partnerships, BIPOC Podcast Creators has announced that it is closing. The co-founders announced that the closure is partially driven by capacity and time constraints, but also reflects the structural challenges of sustaining community-driven work in the current content creator landscape. “The industry benefits enormously from communities like ours, but the infrastructure to sustain them long-term requires arduous work and significant financial investment. And frankly, it’s not enough to ask our creators to pay to make up this difference,” said co-founder Maribel Quezada Smith. VeePod has launched dynamic 3D branding for any video podcast, particularly useful for product placements and logos, as well as busy podcast publishers. The toolkit will be demonstrated at The Podcast Show later this month. Yesterday, we reported on what we called Spotify's "video lock-in". This story was based on screenshots of Podigee's implementation of Spotify's video distribution API, which we erroneously attributed to Spotify's own UX: we're happy to make that distinction clear. What's a little less clear is the extent of the lock-in. Spotify denies that creators are permanently "locked in" to using a Spotify API feed if they opt for video distribution in this way, though the company has confirmed that changing your feed back to RSS requires manual work from both the podcast hosting company and from Spotify itself. From others, we hear that this reversion process may remove comments, reviews, and video files from your podcast; and we also understand that following our story yesterday, Spotify has contacted all partners to clarify messaging about this process. Not that any of us would know - at least two podcast hosting companies have told us that the whole API is under a non-disclosure agreement, and that they are prohibited from speaking about it. > > > Read more of today’s podcast industry news stories on the Podnews website: and get our free daily newsletter.Classifieds - your job or ad here<a href="https://pod

Beware Spotify's video lock-in

Sponsored by Supporting Cast. Your subscribers shouldn't be someone else's email list. 🔒 Other platforms keep the keys to your audience—their payment info, their contact details, their loyalty. Supporting Cast hands them back 🔑. Build a business you actually own. Thinking of using a podcast hosting company to upload video to Spotify? That ease of use comes with a big cost, we learn today: you will be forever locked in to your current podcast hosting company, according to warnings given by Spotify in the signup process. "This cannot be undone", says one checkbox on Spotify; another points out that "this permanently replaces your RSS feed with API-based distribution", repeating, twice, that "this cannot be undone". Podnews has seen at least 3,500 podcasts switch podcast hosting company in the last 30 days alone: it's part of the freedom given with any RSS feed, allowing you to find better deals and different monetisation options as your podcast grows. It's also, free to upload video to Spotify using the Spotify for Podcasters website - wherever you're hosted. It seems that it's unlikely, however, that podcast hosting companies will mention this lock-in. Podigee, which launched Spotify video this week, doesn't even have any documentation about it (they're working on it, they tell us); while Libsyn, who launched Spotify video distribution last week, don't mention this lockin at all. But then - why would they? Update: This was based on screenshots of Podigee's implementation of Spotify's video distribution API (which we erroneously attributed to Spotify's own UX). We're happy to make that distinction clear. What's a little less clear is the extent of the lock-in. Sponsored by Supporting Cast. Your subscribers shouldn't be someone else's email list. 🔒 Other platforms keep the keys to your audience—their payment info, their contact details, their loyalty. Supporting Cast hands them back 🔑. Build a business you actually own. Podcast hosting company Captivate has unveiled its Apple Podcasts video support. Their pricing model is a flat $12/month add-on for up to 1,000 video plays. Additional bandwidth costs are charged over that number. Captivate isn't yet supporting the alternate enclosure. Podnews has published a quick price comparison page for video podcast hosting. What's notable is that different companies are charging in very different ways. It's emerged that all podcasters wanting to submit video to Apple Podcasts will need to manually get an API key from Apple (docs from Captivate, Podigee or Buzzsprout) and then submit an approval request to Apple Podcasts to enable their podcast in video - and it can take up to two weeks for Apple Podcasts to approve this request. We don't know of any publishers or shows that have been disallowed, however, and there is a suggestion that this is a technical quality check to help the platform with scaling growth. However, neither Spotify nor YouTube charges for bandwidth, and both those companies don't have a pre-publishing approval process. Captivate launched their Apple Podcasts video streaming feature with a special edition of In & Around Podcasting - however, surprisingly, that episode is not yet in video on Apple Podcasts. We bet it's in Apple's approval queue... What effect does adding video on Apple Podcasts have on your show's consumpti

Supporting Cast hands them back 🔑. Build a business you actually own. Podcast hosting company Podigee has launched video podcast support - for YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts. Video is available today across every podcast plan; the company says it makes them the first to support video podcast distribution to all three major platforms, across every pricing tier. Pricing starts at €19/month (US $22), for unlimited audio and four video episodes (of up to 30 minutes) per month. The company is based in Berlin, Germany. Podigee tells Podnews that they're "still looking into the implications of adding the alternate enclosure feature", but long term they would like to support it. Support will add video to other, open podcast apps (either as an MP4 or HLS stream). Buzzsprout has also confirmed it is not yet supporting the alternateEnclosure. RAIN reminds us that it's ten years since Spotify launched video shows. Acast's Q1/26 financial report says the company has shown "strong profitable growth". Sales were up by 20% (26% in North America); the company made profit of SEK 4.7 (US $0.5mn), which is the company's first ever profitable first quarter. On Monday, we spoke with Spotify's Lizzy Hale for the official answer. Yet, a UK reader of Podnews spotted a feature for "Podcasts to help save the planet" appear in their app, which might point to an alternative way. Highlighted were podcasts from TEDxLondon, the BBC World Service, and a science podcast from Fresh Air; but the #1 slot was given to a podcast called Heart of the Wild, which is, in its words, "hosted by Dianna Colasurdo, a London-based media executive and passionate animal enthusiast". This show is too small to appear in either Rephonic or Podscribe, so we're impressed that it got the prime position in the Spotify carousel. The company has dozens of people based all over the world, watching for shows to highlight, and guiding Spotify's recommendation systems to reflect cultural moments. In an interview, Lizzy tells us how they aim to "give more creators a real shot at being discovered". SiriusXM and iHeartMedia are in talks to merge, reports Variety. The news was initially the subject of a set of reports by Bloomberg ($). From a podcast point of view, merging the two would mean one network with 3,422 shows; representing around 207 million downloads+views a month. Spotify would remain bigger, suggests the Podscribe ranker - but that's only until SiriusXM starts representing YouTube's audio advertising later this year. Both iHeart and SiriusXM have, of course, significant radio businesses. RadioInsight suggests a merged company will be a juggernaut. SiriusXM obfuscates its podcast revenue by including Pandora in its data, but earned $2.1bn revenue from that business unit in 2025 (25% of overall revenue). iHeart earned <a href="https://s24.q4cdn.com/216390268/files/doc_financials/2025/ar/223e9f79-b858-4bd8-9830-3f41b0b95ee8.pdf?utm_source=podnews.net&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=podnews

SiriusXM also released data from Edison Research, showing that around 74% of US adults 13+ consume YouTube audio, or engage in listening-first behaviours on YouTube. RØDE’s tiny component for microphones of the future

Sponsored by Podscribe. Join us at the Innovation Stage at POSSIBLE! Learn how to buy audio more effectively and drive measurable results with Podscribe’s Matt Drengler. April 29, 12:10 PM ET. Save your spot. RØDE made a number of announcements at the NAB Show. Sonaura, a tiny microphone technology component, will be part of upcoming new microphones from RØDE. New products announced (but coming soon) are squarely aimed at the video podcast world: RØDELink II, a new wireless microphone system; LPA1, a new low-profile studio arm ("for precision placement without visual obstruction"); DS3, a desktop studio arm; and PodMic Flag, a bespoke flag for the PodMic to put your podcast logo on. RØDECaster Studio will be an "edit like a Word doc"-type editor, with automatic um/er removal and AI editing. And RØDE Capture, a mobile phone recording app, will finally be available for Android phones. Podcast agency Caspian Studios made a number of layoffs - roughly half the workforce has been impacted. It was Caspian's third layoff in three years. Headliner has announced it is to make its video podcasting tools free. Audioboom posts record revenue

Sponsored by Podscribe. Join us at the Innovation Stage at POSSIBLE! Learn how to buy audio more effectively and drive measurable results with Podscribe’s Matt Drengler. April 29, 12:10 PM ET. Save your spot. Audioboom released a trading update for Q1/26. Revenue is up +30% year-on-year to another record of $22.5mn; the company made $4.8mn profit (up +41%). However, Audioboom describes video - up +70% in views - as "lower-yield"; revenue per thousand downloads is down from $60.83 to $45.10 as a result of more video and more downloads within the UK, which historically monetises less well than the US. The company recently signed Crooked Media and true-crime show RedHanded. Sounds Profitable's Tom Webster is running a free webinar today at 2pm ET, looking at Audio Primes: the people who listen to podcasts. The report, sponsored by RSS.com, look at podcast consumers who prefer audio, not video: and "they defy every stereotype you might have about them", we're told. You can sign up free, here. Which are the best true crime shows - for advertisers? Where are the ads in those shows working the best? Oxford Road has released data today from ORBIT which draws from more than $1.6bn in campaign data. The research shows that advertisers are timidly investing in the genre; and not properly committing. More new AI-generated podcasts than human ones

Sponsored by Podscribe. Join us at the Innovation Stage at POSSIBLE! Learn how to buy audio more effectively and drive measurable results with Podscribe’s Matt Drengler. April 29, 12:10 PM ET. Save your spot. Is podcasting being flooded with AI slop? For new shows, it seems that normal, human-made podcasts are now in the minority, according to the Podcast Index. Visible on the Podcast Index's New Feeds Report, at the time of writing it shows only 44.6% of new shows in the last 24 hours were "likely legitimate", with 45.7% potentially produced by AI. The tool spots AI-generated shows by using AI itself. The Podcast Index is now making available a /recent/problematic API, which details new podcast shows that have been marked as spam, phishing, or "low-effort AI", which may help podcast hosting companies and apps curate their feeds. The Podcast Index New Feeds Report also shows that Inception Point AI released 325 new shows on Tuesday: almost one-in-five of all new shows on that day. Hosted by Spreaker and monitored by Podtrac, it's unclear how many Inception Point AI shows have been produced, since the Podcast Index appears to sporadically remove them from its index; we count more than 8,000 still there. Inception Point AI added twenty wellness shows yesterday, marked "WELLNS", in less than 75 minutes. The shows offer AI-generated advice about Codependency, Mental Health, Vaccinations, gambling addiction, anger management, panic attacks, and more. They're all hosted by "Julia Cartwright" or "Dr. Mara Lennox", and start by saying things like: "I want you to know that I'm an AI host, which means I can engage with sensitive, deeply personal material without judgment, agenda or projection." When we interviewed Inception Point AI's CEO Jeanine Wright in 2025, she told us that for health and wellness advice, "somebody is involved in listening and reviewing the content before it’s released". The company has also moved into Spanish-language podcasting, with a set of biography shows - like for the Argentine writer <

CBC’s new slate includes a new comedy podcast

Sponsored by Podscribe. Join us at the Innovation Stage at POSSIBLE! Learn how to buy audio more effectively and drive measurable results with Podscribe’s Matt Drengler. April 29, 12:10 PM ET. Save your spot. Before we begin: have you filled out the Podnews Report Card yet? We'd appreciate your help in sharing it to your colleagues, customers or anyone else who might fill it in. If you want to mention it on your industry podcast, it's at podnews.net/reportcard - and thank you. CBC has released its spring/summer 2026 podcast slate. New podcasts include a comedy podcast hosted by musician Donovan Woods and Tom Power of CBC’s Q - and a new investigative series into an AI tool that claims it's solving crimes. On our story yesterday of the cloned podcasts: podcast lawyer Lindsay Bowen tells us that he believes some of the original podcast owners could have a case for copyright infringement, and either trademark infringement or a violation of the Lanham Act's prohibition against passing off. But he also warns podcast hosting companies and podcast directories need to get their house in order too: "Every hosting platform —or anyone who hosts user uploaded material available in the United States — must have a DMCA designated agent listed in the directory of the US Copyright Office. Otherwise, they can’t claim protection of the DMCA’s “Safe Harbor,” and could be liable for a contributory infringement lawsuit against them." We're sure that Dr Nathan Pali's thinly disguised versions of The Rest Is History are totally above board? At least it's not AI-generated: when we listened to one of the podcasts, we noticed this history podcaster was incapable of pronouncing the word Carthaginian. Or of editing. > > > Read more of today’s podcast industry news stories on the Podnews website: and get our free daily newsletter.Classifieds - your job or ad here🎧 ➡️ 💰Podcast Content To Clients Workshop — If you want to use your podcast to attract new clients and

The company cloning famous podcasts

Sponsored by Podscribe. Join us at the Innovation Stage at POSSIBLE! Learn how to buy audio more effectively and drive measurable results with Podscribe’s Matt Drengler. April 29, 12:10 PM ET. Save your spot. A new podcast studio, Light Knot Studios, is copying the names and designs of 75 successful history podcasts to confuse listeners and attract ad revenue. It was first spotted over the weekend by Dirk from the History of the Germans podcast (using PodSEO, who advertised with us a few weeks ago). He told Podnews: "We all have competition. But, if listeners look for History of the Germans and they stumble on this [visual copy] instead, they'll be confused and will think it's not worth listening to. We're all struggling hard for the first listen. It's very irritating." Legally, this is a little like Coming to America's "McDowell's restaurant". The law against passing off - “stopping one trader from misrepresenting goods and services as being the goods and services of another” - isn't, actually, something that copyright or trademark law covers. Since the audio hasn't been copied, it might be tricky to convince individual podcast platforms to take action. (Our advice about how to report a pirated podcast isn't going to be wholly useful for this). The company is based in New York State. The owner of Light Knot Studios is LinkedByte Corporation, which also runs an audiobook app brand Fable FM and a book summariser Winkist. They're all run by Ibnul Jaif Farabi, and uses a post office box in East Harlem, NYC. Farabi has commented on Reddit (using an account th

How many people are watching podcasts on Netflix?

Sponsored by Podscribe. Join us at the Innovation Stage at POSSIBLE! Learn how to buy audio more effectively and drive measurable results with Podscribe’s Matt Drengler. April 29, 12:10 PM ET. Save your spot. How are podcasts doing on Netflix? Independent measurement company Samba TV posted data on Netflix Podcasts, including a podcast ranker. The company says that 13% of Netflix households (that's 10mn households) watched at least 1 cumulative minute of a Netflix podcast in Q1/26. There’s really only one runaway success on Netflix for now - it’s The Breakfast Club, which is responsible for 40% of all podcast views on the platform, and has 3x the views of the #2 title, a Netflix companion podcast for Bridgerton. Almost half of Breakfast Club viewers watch the show within 48 hours of an episode’s release. (Caution: the 13% number above is a figure spanning three months, rather than the usual one-month period. The company only monitors smart TVs, not phones. This doesn't suggest these people watched a podcast for at least a minute, just that in total they've watched at least a minute of podcasts in a three month period.) Exclusive: The Podcast Show London has announced Global and iHeartPodcasts as headline partners for the event next month. This year, Global’s presence will place a particular focus on Global Studios. Exclusive: We reported on the upcoming Podcast Movement NYC in February; but today, in an interview in the Podnews Weekly Review with Bryan Barletta, we discover the pricing for tickets, and more detail about the week-long flagship event. > > > Read more of today’s podcast industry news stories on the Podnews website: and get our free daily newsletter.Classifieds - your job or ad hereContact John Wordock for Help Today — In podcasting since 2006 he's built some well-known networks and shows. Patreon sees a third more revenue for podcasters

Sponsored by Podscribe. Podscribe is heading to POSSIBLE 2026! We’re excited to sponsor one of the year’s biggest marketing events. In Miami? Let’s connect and talk measurement, media strategy, and what’s next for the industry. Podcast revenue for Patreon has increased by a third in the past year, up to $629mn in 2025. Patreon has published more details of the shift it's seeing. 47,000 podcasters are now earning income from 7.6 million patrons, the company says. Some of those include you - our many supporters of Podnews through Patreon, which keeps us free for everyone. Thank you. Podtrac released its March rankers. Publishers were up month-on-month (February has 28 days and March 31, so you'd hope so); but many publishers are down year-on-year. Versant is a new publisher to the rankings, at #13. A pop-up bookshop is about to launch in New York City - but it’s the first bookshop in the world that won't sell any books. The bookless bookstore is being opened on May 1 by Audible. Let’s connect and talk measurement, media strategy, and what’s next for the industry. If getting your podcast discovered is hard, then this new feature might help. Spotify has launched Prompted Playlist for Podcasts, a tool that lets you build podcast playlists just by asking for something - like "Create a podcast playlist with the biggest entertainment news". The tool is available for Premium users in English in selected countries. We gave it a go, and we approve of its top choices. Spotify’s article says that “more than 34 million podcasts are discovered for the first time every week on Spotify” - so anything that helps get new shows found will benefit us. George Soros’s Soros Fund Management is investing into MeidasTouch Network, the owner of The MeidasTouch Podcast. Terms weren't given. The investment company became the largest shareholder in Audacy in February; and invested in Crooked Media in 2022. Fun fact: Soros was described as “the man with the midas touch” in TIME magazine in 1993. He is now. Ausha has expanded its growth suite with Ausha Visibility Ads, adding the ability to buy ads on Spotify and YouTube for your podcast. What happens when Apple Podcasts promotes you

Sponsored by Podscribe. Podscribe is heading to POSSIBLE 2026! We’re excited to sponsor one of the year’s biggest marketing events. In Miami? Let’s connect and talk measurement, media strategy, and what’s next for the industry. We’ve seen the data suggesting it’s only the #3 most popular podcast app these days: but Apple Podcasts can still have a real effect when the editorial team highlight shows on its front page. One podcast says it saw 61,000 downloads in a single day after it was promoted. “What I Survived” is an independent podcast from Queensland, Australia, and got an editorial feature on Apple Podcasts at launch. (Our list of all the podcast directories includes the page to submit your show to the Apple Podcasts editorial team). Look at the US podcast charts, and there’s plenty of sports shows in the top 20. But in Latin America - countries like Argentina or Mexico - there are none in the top 200! So, why haven’t sports podcasts taken off in Latin America? There’s plenty of reasons, suggests Genuina Media; the company also has a compelling reason why this is likely to change this year. Never Not Funny, the Jimmy Pardo Podcast, is to celebrate its twenty-year anniversary this Saturday with an eight-hour livestream. Good news from TuneIn: after closing podcast submissions in Feb 2024, TuneIn now appears to be accepting new podcast listings once more. You can just use TuneIn's broadcaster portal; the directory has all of our shows there (here's our daily podcast). The directory is the default way into Tesla cars, Sonos speakers and many more places; when we last covered TuneIn in Dec 2024, we revealed mass layoffs at the company; but it was acquired by radio and podcast producer Stingray in Nov 2025. Exclusive: Libsyn and Buzzsprout have signed up with Apple Podcasts to distribute HLS video. Brendan Monaghan, President & CEO, Libsyn, said: “We view video as a natural progression for podcasting — giving creators more ways to engage audiences, deepen storytelling, and grow their businesses. This partnership aligns directly with our vision, as Libsyn continues building a next-gen platform, enabling creators to publish seamlessly across formats, distribute everywhere, and monetize more effectively than ever before.” Alban Brooke, Head of Marketing at Buzzsprout, said: “We’re excited to bring Apple Podcasts video distribution to Buzzsprout. HLS gives podcasters a great way to publish video to Apple Podcasts and makes it easy for people to listen or watch.” All top-10 podcast hosting companies now support HLS video, with one exception: Spotify for Creators/Megaphone. (Users of Triton Digital’s Spreaker can upgrade to Omny Studio). Most of these hosting companies, however, are not publishing pricing for video hosting, and support appears to be invite-only.
