Why Undercharging Is Killing Your Coaching Career with Anthony Diehl

Many coaches undercharge because they want to help people, avoid awkward sales conversations, or stay competitive. But low pricing can quietly hurt your coaching business, your client relationships, and your ability to provide excellent service. Matt Reynolds is joined by Anthony Diehl to discuss why undercharging as a coach often creates more problems than it solves. Cheap coaching can attract cheap commitment, force coaches into unsustainable volume, and make the service feel like a commodity instead of a high-value transformation. They explain why coaches should stop thinking of themselves as selling workouts, spreadsheets, or nutrition advice. The real value comes from coaching judgment, accountability, relationship, personalization, and helping clients apply the right plan to their actual lives. Matt and Anthony also discuss how to know when you are undercharging, how to think about your real hourly rate, why client retention and lifetime value matter, and how value ladders can help coaches serve different clients at different levels of support. Pricing is not just about making more money. It is about building a sustainable coaching business that allows you to serve clients well for the long haul. Video Feedback for Online Coaching: The Superpower That Builds Better Client Connection

Reliability in coaching is one of the most important skills for keeping clients, building trust, and growing a coaching business. Talent matters. Technical knowledge matters. Programming matters. But clients often stay with the coach who shows up, responds, follows through, and actually cares. Matt Reynolds explains why brilliant but inconsistent coaches often lose to average coaches who are dependable. Coaching mastery takes years, but reliability can begin on day one. A young coach may still be developing technical skill, but that coach can still serve clients well by responding quickly, remembering details, and doing what he said he would do. Matt also explains why 24-hour feedback has been a core standard at Barbell Logic, how reliability affects churn and client retention, and why the human connection matters more as coaching tools, platforms, and AI continue to improve. He also answers questions about how reliability looks in an in-person gym setting, how coaches can apply reliability to business ownership, and why doing the necessary work first helps coaches grow beyond simply being technicians. Reliable coaching is not flashy, but clients notice. If you want to keep more clients and build a professional coaching business, start by being dependable. Reliability in Coaching: The Skill That Keeps Clients

Reliability in coaching may matter more than talent, especially when it comes to keeping clients long term. Matt Reynolds explains why dependable coaches often beat brilliant but inconsistent coaches. Coaching skill takes years to build, but reliability can start on day one. Clients notice whether you respond, follow through, remember details, and give feedback when promised. Matt discusses why 24-hour feedback has been a core standard at Barbell Logic, how reliability builds trust, why service quality affects client retention, and why the human relationship matters even more as coaching tools and AI improve. He also explains how reliability looks different in online coaching, in-person coaching, and business ownership. For coaches trying to grow, reduce churn, and keep clients longer, the challenge is simple: reply to every client within 24 hours and become the kind of coach clients can count on. Volume vs Intensity in Strength Training: Why More Isn't Always Better

The debate over volume vs intensity in strength training often creates more confusion than clarity. Should you add more weight to the bar, or should you add more sets, reps, and exercises? In this episode of Mondays with Matt, Matt Reynolds explains why volume and intensity both matter, but not always at the same time or in the same way. For newer lifters, intensity should usually come first. That means adding weight to the bar, building strength on the main lifts, and learning how to strain productively. Once a lifter has built a real strength base, volume becomes a more useful tool. More hard sets, smart accessory work, myo-reps, and circuits can help build muscle, improve work capacity, and continue progress without simply grinding heavier and heavier weights forever. Matt also explains why "more" is not automatically better. The goal is not maximum volume or maximum intensity. The goal is the minimum effective dose that drives progress while still allowing recovery. PS - Ready to transform your fitness? Nutrition for Longevity: Stop Eating Like Your Health Doesn't Matter

Most people think about nutrition in short bursts—getting ready for a vacation, a wedding, or trying to drop a few pounds quickly. But that approach doesn't hold up over time. In this episode of Mondays with Matt, Matt Reynolds breaks down why nutrition for longevity requires a completely different mindset—one focused on healthspan, sustainability, and long-term consistency. This isn't about chasing abs or quick results. It's about building a way of eating that supports your health, strength, and quality of life for decades. Because eventually, your habits catch up with you—and the goal is to make sure they're working in your favor, not against you. Matt walks through the key principles of nutrition for longevity, including how to prioritize your health, track the right metrics, and create a nutrition rhythm you can actually sustain for life. Diet Reboot: How to Get Back on Track After Your Diet Slips

Diet reboot strategies are essential if you've ever fallen off your nutrition plan and struggled to get back on track. In this episode of Mondays with Matt, Matt Reynolds breaks down exactly how to use a diet reboot to rebuild momentum, improve energy, and create sustainable nutrition habits without starting over from scratch. Life stress, busy schedules, travel, and work demands can all cause your diet to slip. The problem isn't the slip—it's not having a clear, simple plan to recover quickly. Matt explains why the fastest way to get back on track is not a new diet, but a return to the habits and meals that have already worked for you in the past. Matt shares his personal approach to a diet reboot, including how he uses meal planning instead of meal prep, why he prioritizes protein intake, and how he creates simple structure with consistent breakfasts, leftover lunches, and enjoyable dinners. He also explains why focusing on motivation over discipline leads to faster results and how early wins—like improved energy, better sleep, and reduced stress—help build long-term consistency. This episode also covers how training and nutrition work together, why increasing daily activity like walking can accelerate progress, and how to control your environment by removing foods that derail your habits. Matt explains why a diet reboot should not be extreme or restrictive, but instead built around sustainable habits that can turn into long-term routines. If you've been stuck in a cycle of starting over every week, this episode will give you a practical, proven way to reset your nutrition, regain control, and build habits that actually last. For those who want additional structure, accountability, and coaching, Matt also introduces Lean In 12—a 12-week transformation designed to help you lose fat, build muscle, and create sustainable habits through daily feedback and support. Start your diet reboot today and take the first step toward getting back on track. But GLP-1 weight loss drugs are not magic. Appetite control can help you eat less, but long-term results still depend on nutrition habits, protein intake, and strength training. Matt explains why people using GLP-1 medications must focus on preserving muscle while losing fat and why diet quality matters even more when appetite drops dramatically. Stop Waiting for Permission to Coach

If you want to become a coach, the biggest mistake you can make is waiting until you feel ready. In this episode of Mondays with Matt, Matt Reynolds explains why new coaches need to stop waiting for permission to coach and start gaining real experience. Confidence does not come before action. It comes from coaching real people, making mistakes, and learning through repetition. Many aspiring coaches believe they need another certification, more knowledge, or the perfect moment before they begin. But coaching is a skill built through reps. Just like lifting weights, improvement happens through practice. Matt breaks down why hesitation holds new coaches back and why taking action is the fastest way to grow. If you've been lifting consistently and want to help others get stronger, the next step is not more preparation. The next step is coaching someone. In this episode, Matt covers: • Why waiting to "feel ready" keeps coaches stuck • How real coaching confidence is built through experience • What your first coaching sessions should actually look like • Why programming knowledge should not stop you from starting • How to coach friends and family while maintaining authority • When new coaches should begin charging for coaching If you've been preparing for someday, this episode is your reminder that progress begins with action. Stop waiting for permission to coach. Start gaining experience. Confidence Through Competency: How to Not Suck as a Coach

If you're a new coach, confidence doesn't come from hype — it comes from competency. In this episode of Mondays with Matt, Matt Reynolds breaks down why the real path to coaching confidence is confidence through competency. Not charisma. Not energy. Not certifications alone. Competence built through education, repetition, and real-world reps. The fitness industry has a low barrier to entry. But the coaches who separate themselves long-term are the ones who pursue mastery relentlessly. Today, with AI, online education, and unlimited access to training knowledge, there has never been a better time to build confidence through competency — if you're willing to do the work. Matt explains how to: Overcome coaching anxiety by accumulating reps Refine your teaching scripts and communication Use education and AI to accelerate learning Develop calm authority on the platform Build real credibility instead of relying on hype If you want to become a better coach — or stop feeling like you're faking it — this episode will show you why confidence through competency is the only sustainable path. Confidence isn't something you manufacture. You earn it. PS - Coaching 101 + Free Month of Coaching Build the foundation and confidence to start coaching real people. The Power of Thinking Time to Unlock Founder Potential

Quiet reflection might be the most powerful leadership tool you're not using. In this episode of Build Your Business, Matt and Chris explore how "thinking time" fuels strategic clarity, innovation, and sustainable leadership. Unlocking Founder Potential Starts with Thinking Time Intentional solitude creates space to lead, not just operate. Thinking time is a discipline, not downtime. Founders need room to dream, plan, and zoom out. Schedule it before the urgent tasks fill your day. Triggers and Tools That Spark Breakthroughs Useful input becomes powerful when paired with stillness. Find inspiration in fiction, founder podcasts, or tech trends. Pause when something resonates—that's where insight lives. Reflection is what transforms input into action. From Reflection to Execution Ideas are only valuable when they reach the team. Capture insights in writing before sharing. Use frameworks like the six-page memo to refine your thinking. Thoughtful communication avoids misalignment and confusion. Communicating Ideas with Clarity Even great ideas can fail if they're poorly delivered. Edit lightly, but keep your voice. Watch your timing and tone when introducing change. Alignment beats intensity every time. Create Space to Lead Thinking time isn't optional—it's how you stay visionary. Make it a habit: walks, drives, early mornings. Protect this space as part of your leadership rhythm. Let clarity guide your communication and execution. #FounderFocus #StrategicLeadership #ThinkingTime #BuildYourBusiness See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Overcoming Founder Isolation: Break the Cycle of Overwork & Anxiety

Feeling like you're carrying the entire business on your shoulders? You're not alone. In this vulnerable episode of Build Your Business, Matt and Chris talk openly about the emotional weight of being a founder—and how to break free from the loop of overwork, anxiety, and isolation. 1. What Founder Isolation Really Feels Like More than being alone—it's about being emotionally and mentally disconnected. Matt and Chris are in the thick of it and share their honest experiences. Hustle culture doesn't stop unless you make it stop. Isolation threatens more than just your business—it impacts your life. 2. The Anxiety of Unfinished Work and Endless Urgency You know what needs to be done—but you can't get to it. The constant "cloud" of to-dos creates a vicious mental loop. More work leads to more stress, which leads to more disconnection. Identifying and disrupting this cycle is essential. 3. The Bottleneck Syndrome When the founder is the only decision-maker, everything slows down. Delegation is hard, but necessary for growth and sanity. Admit where you're overwhelmed—then ask your team to help. Ownership creates relief and opportunity. 4. The Personal Costs of Isolation When work is everything, everything else suffers. Matt and Chris discuss how overwork has affected their families, faith, and fitness. Rediscover the parts of life that refuel you. Make space for relationships outside your business. 5. Boundaries, Not Burnout The antidote to overwork isn't quitting—it's creating boundaries. Cut off the workday at a set time. Protect your time and energy like you protect your business. Use listening as your most powerful sales tool. Present your product or service as a response to real needs. Build credibility by focusing on outcomes, not features. Mastering the Discovery Call A great discovery call sets the tone for the entire relationship. Come prepared to ask smart, thoughtful questions. Let the client do most of the talking. Time is Your Most Precious Resource

Time is your most precious resource. You can make more money and you can work harder, but you cannot make more time. We all have 24 hours in a day and we all have a finite amount of days to live (we will die). Make the most of your time, and learn how to leverage effort and money to open up as much time as possible in your life.  Time Is Your Most Precious Resource: Can't Create More You have three resources you can pull from: time, money, energy.  You should work hard. This is a must as an entrepreneur. Do the work.  If you are young or poor (and often they go together) you will have to spend more time doing things for yourself.  As you grow older and more experienced, hopefully you have made more money. You need to buy back your time, using money to free up time.  This means paying for others to take care of urgent, non-important tasks, both high skill or low skill. This helps you avoid drowning in urgency.  Time is Your Most Precious Resource: MED for Maximum Impact You need to consider the likely impact on the business and likely investment of resources. Rate each on a scale of 1-5.  If there are low resource, high impact actions you can take, these are no brainers. Do them. Now.  High resource, low impact actions you should avoid.  The harder choices are the high resource, high impact or low resource, low impact actions.  Where many owners may not think clearly here is with sunken costs. Oftentimes, certain clients suck energy, time, and money out of your business but put little money into the business. Fire these people. Hire more clients like your best clients that take the lowest number of resources.  Time is your most precious resource. Leverage it and other resources intelligently for the maximum impact on your business.    #BusinessGrowth #CoachingTips #ClientSuccess   PS -  Coach Smarter, Earn More: https://bit.ly/3X4ixOX Matt's Links Website: https://ryanmattreynolds.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/reynoldsstrong/?hl=en Chris's Links: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/chrismreynolds/   See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

When Work is Your Passion, Work Feels Like Play

When Work is Your Passion, Work Feels Like Play You spend a lot of life at work. If you're an entrepreneur, unless you plan to fail, you will spend more than most people at it.  Don't do something you hate. Don't blindly do something you think you love.  As you practice something, you tend to love it over time. You will not know unless you expose yourself to different things and pursue them with some real effort.  What it Takes to Succeed: Be An Outlier Most businesses fail. If you do what everyone else is doing, you will get the same results.  Working hard and intelligently at something over time will set you apart.  Remember you're not a technician as an owner. You need to understand your field, read, expose yourself to new ideas, think about where your business needs to go, and call up customers and prospects and learn about their pain points.  When work is your passion, work feels like play.  How to Make Work Fun Learn to love what you do. Engage deeply with problems and the pain points. See these as the primary things you were put on earth to solve.  Become the world's leading expert in something. Truly master something - become excellent in this thing.  Pair things you already love with this, for example coffee, walking, traveling, etc.  We often think work is worse than it is. It is not pleasurable every moment. But lean into the challenges and truly embrace the pursuit.  When work is your passion, work feels like play.  PS -  Coach Smarter, Earn More: https://bit.ly/3X4ixOX Matt's Links Website: https://ryanmattreynolds.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/reynoldsstrong/?hl=en Chris's Links: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/chrismreynolds/   See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Why Core Values Matter: Decision-Making, Growth, & Company Culture

Core values serve as guiding principles that help individuals and organizations make decisions aligned with their highest ideals. They are incredibly important, and should not be posted on the wall and forgotten, but known by all and followed by all. Core values must be reflected in the company culture, hiring process, and leadership.  Why Core Values Matter: Core values define the highest ideals for yourself to act. They serve as guidelines for goals, actions, and other decisions.  These will drive actions. They will provide a standard to guide hard decisions.  Core values should align with who you are and what you believe in. Don't create core values that you can't live up to.  These need to be reflected in your company culture. They cannot be posted on the wall but known by no one. You cannot ignore them. If someone is exposed to your business, will they say that your core values are reflected in their interaction with your company.  How to Identify Your Core Values Even if you do not know your core values, you have them.  Identify attributes that you find attractive or motivational (or, find features that bother you). You might also think about your legacy and how you want to be seen. If you have someone who can speak honestly to you, you could see how they see you now.  You might think about things you regularly do or need to do and post them up quickly on a wall. Start to group these activities. You can begin to see values that you follow.  Once identified, you should prioritize them. Once you have your core values identified and prioritized, you can begin to develop your GAMEplan, which will move you from where you or your company are now to where you want to go.  PS -  Coach Smarter, Earn More: https://bit.ly/3X4ixOX Matt's Links Website: https://ryanmattreynolds.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/reynoldsstrong/?hl=en Chris's Links: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/chrismreynolds/   See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
