We’re going Crazy for Craigie in “Episode 15,” which (as you can already tell) has the cheesiest episode description so far! John Craigie is an American treasure– part singer, part songwriter, part comedian, and fully human. John recently released his latest live album “ Greatest Hits… Just Kidding ” in September 2024, and is chronically touring to support all his releases. Based in Portland, Oregon, John has made a career of winning over audiences in clubs, theaters, and everything in between over the past twenty years– including performances at the Ryman Auditorium and Newport Folk Festival. His latest studio record, “Pagan Church” has garnered high-praise from publications such as American Songwriter and Rolling Stone Magazine . In this interview Troy and Pauly connect with John over the art of the bit, famous (and not-so-famous) influences, opening for Jack Johnson, and settle the SHEETZ versus WaWa debate once and for all. John’s music is available to purchase and stream across the internet including (but not limited to) Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. Tour dates, merch, and general updates can be easily found at johncraigie.com or across social media– @johncraigie. We are lucky to have Fantastic Cat’ s Mike Montali on Episode Seven of “Load-In Through the Back”– not because he’s one of the outrageously charismatic and talented members of the folk-rock supergroup that Rolling Stone Magazine calls “equal parts Dylan and Springsteen,” but because Fantastic Cat almost died… Well, at least according to their website bio… Which also alludes to rehab stints, mega ego, and an encounter with Godzilla which culminated with the ruination of the mastertapes for their live EP “Live at the Bowery.” I’m not making any of this up… but they are. The jovial nature of their brand and onstage persona’s in contrast with sentimental songwriting and unparalleled versatility in musicianship, has made Fantastic Cat a must-see act in every town across America! Spoiler alert: this Cat is a dog person. We know because this conversation features a very special appearance from Mike’s dog Otis. During this interview, Mike touches on the recording of Fantastic Cat’ s latest record “Now That’s What I Call Fantastic Cat,” their rigorous touring schedule, becoming a “real band” AFTER recording their first record, and *admittedly* Troy’s favorite subject– Adam Duritz of Counting Crows . Catch Fantastic Cat on tour through the remainder of 2024 and well into 2025. More info is available at FantasticCatBand.com and across the internet @FantasticCatBand. Ya know what, maybe it is alright– because despite Troy ignoring her DM in 2019, we are talking to the wonderful and talented Cat Popper on Episode Four of “Load-In Through the Back!” Cat is your favorite bassist's favorite bassist. She was an original member of Ryan Adams & the Cardinals. She toured the globe with Grace Potter & the Nocturnals . She plays drums (sort of) with Sasha Dobson and Norah Jones as the female power-trio Puss N Boots . That’s not to mention Jack White , Brian Fallon , Jesse Malin , and the host of other artists whose live and recorded music has been bolstered by the signature sounds of Cat’s ‘66 P-Bass. As if that wasn’t enough, she released two singles under her own name for Velvet Elk Records in 2020 and 2021. Show off. In this episode we cover Cat’s musical journey so far, her celebrity online dating profile, and dive into her totally unhinged and awesome Instagram page (@cat_popper). He is also our guest on Episode Three of “Load-In Through the Back.” In addition to discussing 2023’s “Hands Like Mine” LP, our conversation covers the triumphs and tribulations of the creative process, life on the road as both a performer and personnel, and settles the age-old question: Taylor Ham or Pork Roll? Ayuupppp– Episode Two brings us an interview with guitarist, singer, songwriter, and all around good-guy Scott Tournet of the Spark , Elektric Voodoo , and (of course) Grace Potter & the Nocturnals . Our conversation with Scott touches on his rural Vermont upbringing, the conception of Grace Potter & the Nocturnals , touring football stadiums, a near-disastrous pre-show parkour session with members of his group Elektric Voodoo , parenthood, the rewards (and challenges) of fronting his current solo project: Scott Tournet & the Spark , and so much more. Make sure to check out Scott Tournet’s YouTube channel and his official webpage, ScottTournet.net, to stay up-to-date on future tour dates and releases.
