The Analogous Gifts: A New Framework for Cessationists and Continuationists | Dr. Vern Poythress

Most Christians think the debate over spiritual gifts comes down to one question: do they still happen or don't they? Dr. Vern Poythress, 50-year New Testament professor at Westminster Theological Seminary, says both cessationists and continuationists are asking the wrong question. ABOUT THIS EPISODE:Dr. Poythress proposes the term "analogous gifts" — the idea that the gifts of the Spirit are genuine, Spirit-empowered works modeled after Christ's own prophetic, priestly, and kingly ministry, but subordinate to it. Not identical to what the apostles did. Not a lower-tier substitute. Analogous with the same Spirit, the same source, a different level of authority. This reframing has real stakes for the cessationist/continuationist divide. The tension in the body of Christ right now isn't just academic: it's shaping how whole churches think about prophecy, tongues, healing, and what it means to be filled with the Spirit. Dr. Poythress argues that if Gaffin is right about New Testament prophecy being infallible, that doesn't end the conversation, but just moves it. There's still a genuine, non-inspired, Spirit-empowered gifting that needs to be accounted for. And if Grudem is right, continuationists still need to reckon with what discernment and testing actually look like in practice.Joshua and Dr. Poythress also discuss the history of cessationism, why it developed as a response to Roman Catholic claims, how the Reformation fought on two fronts (Rome and the enthusiasts), and why figures like Samuel Rutherford and even C.H. Spurgeon complicate the neat cessationist narrative. The episode doesn't try to solve the debate. It tries to widen the table.0:00 – Introduction0:44 – Guest: Vern Poythress3:05 – Analogous Gifts Explained14:52 – Cessationism vs. Completionism20:34 – Canon and Prophecy30:06 – Puritan Prophesying Language44:04 – RC Sproul's Voice53:15 – Pursuing Spiritual Gifts59:09 – Closing ThoughtsGROW IN THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT PLAYLIST: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMsjeViSScFGpsFnIkPFAIzI4BFoAy3zQABOUT THE GUEST:"What are Spiritual Gifts?" by Dr. Poythress https://frame-poythress.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/PoythressVernWhatAreSpiritualGifts.pdfSubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Prophets in the Divine Council: What Heiser Saw in the Hebrew Text

What if the Old Testament prophets weren't just messengers who received words from God, but participants in His heavenly court? That's the proposal Dr. Michael Heiser put forth in his works on the divine council. The Remnant Radio explores this perspective, walks through the texts, and works out what it means for how we think about prophecy today.ABOUT THE EPISODE:Dr. Michael Heiser put forth the interpretative framework that the Old Testament prophets participated in Yahweh's divine council, and access to that court is what distinguished the genuine prophet from the counterfeit. The claim from The Unseen Realm: "True prophets have stood and listened in Yahweh's divine council; false prophets have not." Heiser's proposal focuses on the word sōd, appearing in Jeremiah 23:18 as the sōd YHWH, "the council of Yahweh," and describes what the Hebrew Bible presents as Yahweh's heavenly assembly. Jeremiah deploys it as the credibility test for prophets: the genuine ones have stood in it. The false have not. If that reading is right, the prophetic calling in the Old Testament was more than hearing a message from God. Rather, it was about access to the divine council - admission into the throne room of God. The concept finds support across multiple texts. Amos 3:7 declares that God does nothing without first revealing his counsel to the prophets, and the council scenes throughout the Hebrew Bible show a relationship that is consistently dialogical. Isaiah is caught up into the council of YHWH so that he can give an answer. He doesn't passively receive a scroll. He's present in a scene (seraphim, a throne, a voice asking "Who will go?"), and he responds. This idea matters for the body of Christ right now. The continuationist world is navigating real questions about prophetic legitimacy, accountability, and what it actually means to carry a word from God. Heiser's framework gives us a biblical-theological foundation for those conversations that goes deeper than most of what's currently in circulation. If the sōd YHWH is the dividing line between true and false prophecy in Jeremiah 23, that has implications we haven't fully worked out yet. This episode walks through the key texts and what it means for how we think about the prophetic today.0:00 – Introduction3:05 – Divine Council Overview10:44 – Prophets in the Council14:26 – Adam, Enoch, Noah17:55 – Moses and Prophets20:51 – Isaiah, Ezekiel, Jeremiah23:41 – True vs. False Prophets32:46 – New Covenant Implications43:56 – Democratization of the Spirit45:33 – Warning: Heavenly TravelPLAYLIST OF DR. Bethel Just Released a New Statement. Here's Our Take.

Bethel Church released a NEW statement via email addressing the controversies and scandals involving their organization and the people they've endorsed and promoted. We've been consistent on this: the charismatic movement needs internal voices willing to evaluate its most influential organizations with theological honesty. Tribal loyalty doesn't serve the people who've been hurt. And reflexive dismissal doesn't serve the people who are genuinely trying to find their way forward. Both are too easy.So we're reading the statement. We're weighing what's there. We'll do our best to call balls and strikes, and give you a framework for evaluating it yourself. Our hope is that this conversation helps you think through what genuine accountability and repentance look like in a public Christian context and what we should actually expect from leaders and organizations when things have gone wrong.0:00 – Introduction0:35 – Shawn Bolz Allegations Overview6:14 – Kris Vallotton's Response8:05 – Bethel's Statement 14:15 – Governance & Leadership Review25:39 – Accountability & Safety Update33:26 – Wider Culture Ministry Review42:49 – Platforming & Reinstatement Policy52:05 – California Privacy Law ConcernsPOLICING THE CHARISMATIC MOVEMENT: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMsjeViSScFHSZqA1Q85VKxRrkvEYXBecABOUT THE REMNANT RADIO:The Remnant Radio exists to equip believers who are hungry for the radical middle of both Word and Spirit. UFOs, Demons, and Discernment: What Christians Need to Know

The question isn't whether the lights in the sky are real. It's what doors you're actually opening when you go looking for them.Something strange has been happening at the intersection of UFO culture and spirituality. People are gathering in the dark, meditating in circles, performing rituals, and then pointing cameras at the night sky and calling it contact. Steven Greer has built an entire ecosystem around it with documentaries, paid expeditions, and a protocol he calls CE-5 or Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind. And long before Greer, a man named Albert Bender was sending telepathic transmissions into space from a room he'd converted into a chamber of horrors, complete with an altar. What is the Christian response? Many believers aren't sure how to engage the UFO conversation without dismissing it entirely or getting pulled into frameworks that are functionally occult. This episode names that tension and gives you a theological map to navigate it. 2 Corinthians 11:14 says Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. His strategy is not to appear monstrous, but to appear luminous, benevolent, and higher. The CE-5 framework, examined through that lens, looks less like a spiritual frontier and more like a very old deception wearing a new coat of paint. And underneath all of it? The desire is real. People want to know they're not alone. That contact with something higher is actually possible. That desire isn't wrong — it's just aimed at the wrong door. John 10:9: "I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved."0:00 – Introduction0:53 – Albert Bender's Origins2:47 – World Contact Day5:40 – Steven Greer & C59:18 – Benevolent ETs Claim13:26 – Prophet Yahweh's Hoax15:21 – Genuine UAP Phenomena17:07 – Demonic Spiritual Danger20:06 – The Gospel AnswerSubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Does Healing Ministry Marginalize the Suffering?

The church that prays boldly for healing and the church that honors its suffering members aren't two different churches. They're the same church. Most of us haven't figured out how to be both at once.ABOUT THIS EPISODE:There's a tension running through charismatic communities that almost no one names out loud. We believe the Spirit still heals. We preach it, we pray for it, we build entire ministry cultures around expecting it. And yet, in those same communities, those who are suffering — the chronically ill, the disabled, the ones who've prayed a hundred times and heard nothing — quietly absorb an unspoken message: If you had more faith, you would be healed. If God loved you, that diagnosis would already be gone. That's not the gospel. But it can live inside healing culture without anyone intending it. Has our theology of healing accidentally built a hierarchy of spiritual status? Scripture doesn't let us resolve this tension cheaply. Paul prays three times for his thorn to be removed, and God says no (2 Corinthians 12:7-9). Epaphroditus nearly dies in ministry and Paul mourns it (Philippians 2:27). The man at the pool of Bethesda waits 38 years (John 5:5). The gifts of healing described in 1 Corinthians 12:9 are real, active, and given for the building up of the body, and yet the body includes members whose weakness, Paul says, is indispensable (1 Corinthians 12:22). This episode explores what it looks like to pray with genuine faith and expectation for healing, while simultaneously building communities where suffering is not spiritually oversimplified, those who suffer long are not treated as problems awaiting solutions, and chronically ill or disabled members are not made to feel like a project or somehow less than. HEALING & DELIVERANCE PLAYLIST: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMsjeViSScFG2ynSDtQTV6NcDuJtZteIvSubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Were the Patriarchs Prophets?

Isaac trembled violently after realizing he blessed the wrong son. He didn't reverse the blessing. He couldn't . . . That moment, super easy to read past, is actually one of the most theologically loaded scenes in the entire book of Genesis. Most of us read past the patriarchal blessings in Genesis the same way. The text doesn't slow down to explain them. Lamech names his son Noah, announces he'll bring relief from the curse on the ground, and the narrative moves on. Jacob gathers all twelve sons and speaks over each one (tribal territories, political trajectories, a coming ruler) and the story continues. We absorb it as family drama or ancient religious custom. We rarely stop to ask: How do these words actually work? That question opens up an under-examined corner of Genesis, and the answer has real implications for how we understand prophecy, the gifts of the Spirit, and the character of a God who never stopped speaking. In this episode, we'll discuss:- Why the patriarchal blessings in Genesis can't be explained as lucky guesses or shrewd fatherly observation- Why the "covenant authority" interpretation, that the patriarchs could speak things into existence by virtue of their office, is theologically dangerous- Why the most defensible interpretation is that the patriarchs were prophesying: instruments of divine revelation, voicing what God had already shown them- How Lamech's blessing (Genesis 5:28-29) functions as the hermeneutical template for every patriarchal blessing that follows- What the patriarchal period reveals about the cluster argument,  and why a steady, continuous stream of prophetic activity through ordinary domestic moments challenges cessationist assumptionsThe God of Genesis isn't a God who shows up in dramatic bursts. He's a God who never stopped speaking, threading his voice from generation to generation long before anyone had a formal theology of what a prophet even was. The Doctrine That Tried to Fix Feminism — And Got the Trinity Wrong: EFS with Dr. Malcolm Yarnell

There's a version of complementarian theology that quietly reshapes the Trinity to make its argument. Most people who hold it don't realize that's what they're doing. Dr. Malcolm Yarnell does — and he wrote the book on why it matters.Dr. Malcolm Yarnell, professor of Theology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and author of the Theology for Every Person series, joins Joshua Lewis to work through some of the most contested terrain in Christian doctrine: the person of Christ, the unity of the Trinity, and the debate over eternal functional subordination (EFS).What We Cover:- Why the Trinity and Christology are the two doctrines that everything else in systematic theology depends on- The three senses of "Word of God" in scripture: the personal Word (Jesus), the written Word (scripture), and the proclaimed Word- What eternal functional subordination is, where it came from, and why Dr. Yarnell considers it a grave theological error- How EFS was crafted primarily to answer feminism — not to answer a theological question — and why that origin matters- The unified will of the Trinity, and why the garden of Gethsemane is about the submission of Christ's human will, not an eternal subordination within the Godhead- A close reading of 1 Corinthians 15:28: what is actually being subjected — humanity, not deity- The Athanasian scope of scripture: limitations in the text refer to Christ's humanity; perfections refer to his deity- Why you don't need to reconfigure the Trinity to be a complementarian0:00 – Introduction2:08 – Theology for Every Person5:38 – Christ's Deity and Humanity10:42 – Word: Person vs. Scripture15:23 – Eternal Functional Subordination26:32 – Doctrine and Cultural Moments33:43 – The Divine Will54:46 – 1 Corinthians 15:281:00:46 – Closing ThoughtsINTRO TO CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY:https://www.theremnantradio.com/intro-to-christian-theology-courseABOUT THE GUEST:📖Word (Theology for Every Person, Vol. 2) https://a.co/d/0ddyCS4F📖God (Theology for Every Person, Vol. 1) https://a.co/d/0ibY6QQ1📖God the Trinity https://a.co/d/05bCwH0d📖The Formation of Christian Doctrine https://a.co/d/0dwRSFQHSubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. The Rise & Fall of the Kansas City Prophets | Reviewing Dr. Sam Storms

Dr. Sam Storms has been one of our own. He's served at our conferences, he's connected to us through the Convergence Church Network, and he's been one of the clearest continuationist voices in evangelical Christianity for decades. His new book, The Rise and Fall of the Kansas City Prophets, is the most detailed insider account of the Kansas City prophetic movement ever written — 310 pages covering 1982 to 2000, the era of Bob Jones, Paul Cain, and Mike Bickle's rise to prominence. And people are asking some tough questions about it.This episode is not a hit piece on Sam Storms. He was lied to like the rest of us. He has acknowledged that his discernment failed him. That kind of accountability takes humility and bravery. As we review his book, we're going to do our best to call balls and strikes. What does Sam get right? Where does he miss? What this episode is ultimately about is discernment — not just the discernment of individual prophetic words, but the communal discernment of a movement. How does proximity to leadership shape what we're able to see? And after everything that has happened, what does it look like to hold continuationist convictions with both faithfulness and sobriety? There is grief in this conversation, but there is also hope. We're not abandoning the prophetic because Mike Bickle and others abused it. We're asking hard questions — with honesty, with care for Dr. Storms, and with deep love for every person still healing from the IHOPKC collapse.Previous Episodes on Mike Bickle:- How Do We Process the Allegations Against Mike Bickle? https://youtube.com/live/dlkA_FjimJo- IHOP: A House Divided - Mike Bickle & IHOPKC https://youtube.com/live/EpcaPgqCaGo- Behind the Scenes at IHOP: Stories of Systemic Abuse Part 1 https://youtu.be/Y9tDHlOLriM- Surviving a Toxic Church: Victims of IHOP Speak Out, Part 2 https://youtu.be/rpo8wJkm--I0:00 – Introduction1:09 – Sam Storms' Book8:21 – Bob Jones Controversy12:19 – Sam's Apologies17:46 – Sam's Skepticism42:51 – What About Empirically Verified Prophecies?59:51 – Paul Cain1:02:57 – Closing ThoughtsSubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Inside a Therapist's Office: Mental Health, Demons & Deliverance

What if your mental health struggles were something more than what the DSM identifies? What if there was a spiritual aspect keeping you from walking in freedom?Dr. Natalie Atwell has spent over 20 years as a licensed therapist, and she'll be the first to tell you she ignored that question for most of her career. Then the cases got darker, standard treatments stopped working, and a deep dive into Dr. Michael Heiser's divine council worldview changed how she reads both her Bible and her intake forms. There's a quiet crisis happening inside Christian counseling offices. Clients are arriving with presentations - dissociation, compulsive sexual behavior, debilitating anxiety, sleep paralysis - that don't resolve the way they should. The DSM has no category for what some of these people are experiencing. And the therapists treating them are quietly asking a question they're not sure they're allowed to ask: Is something spiritual going on here?Dr. Atwell says yes, and she's built a clinical framework to navigate it. Drawing on the Deuteronomy 32 worldview and Dr. Michael Heiser's understanding of the three rebellions of Genesis 3, 6, and 11, she maps categories of mental health suffering back to specific entry points of spiritual darkness. It's a careful, clinically-informed attempt to take Ephesians 6:12 seriously in a treatment room. The demand in the broader body of Christ is real. Pastors are referring people to therapists because they don't have a framework. Therapists are getting stuck because they don't have the theology. Dr. Atwell's work, including her assessment tool that asks about Ouija boards, occult involvement, and even alien abduction experiences, is an attempt to build a bridge between those two worlds. Not to replace either one, but to help clinicians ask better questions.0:00 – Introduction1:25 – Dr. Natalie Atwell3:58 – Satanic Ritual Abuse7:01 – Counselor's Awakening9:35 – Darkness Uptick Explained17:01 – Divine Council Worldview25:21 – Oppression vs. Possession29:07 – Three Categories Framework37:31 – Deliverance Treatment Model40:06 – Other Influences Assessment47:58 – Client Case Study54:36 – Mental Warrior ConsultingABOUT THE GUEST:📖 Dr. Natalie Atwell's book is coming soon! Can One Demon Possess Thousands at Once? The Truth about Jezebel, Azazel & Named Spirits

Is there one giant spirit of Leviathan demonizing thousands of people simultaneously or is something else going on? The answer cuts deeper than spiritual warfare. It goes straight to the nature of God.The body of Christ has a problem with demon taxonomy. On one end, cessationists deny the category entirely. On the other, some corners of charismatic practice have quietly handed evil spirits divine attributes they were never meant to have, treating Leviathan or Jezebel as omnipresent cosmic forces saturating the earth. Neither position is biblical. And the confusion isn't just theoretical. It shapes how people pray, how pastors minister, and how the church understands the very nature of God.Join Joshua Lewis, Michael Rowntree, and Michael Miller as they work through the biblical catalog of evil spirits and make the case that demons are kinds, not singular entities. They also tackle the deliverance question head-on: is naming demons in ministry Gnostic secret knowledge, or is it something more like Adam naming the animals, an exercise of discernment and authority? If you're looking for a biblically-serious review on demon taxonomy, this episode is for you.0:00 – Introduction7:09 – Demon Taxonomy Overview15:18 – Effects Match Names19:50 – Jezebel Spirit Defined27:06 – Naming Demons, Authority39:28 – One Spirit or Many?43:54 – God's Omnipresence Only46:43 – Speculative: Demonic BreathINTRO TO DELIVERANCE MINISTRY:https://www.theremnantradio.com/intro-to-deliverance-ministrySubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Who Is Lilith? What Isaiah 34, the Dead Sea Scrolls & 3,000 Years of History Actually Reveals

Lilith keeps showing up: in video games, TV shows, ancient mythology, and feminist websites. But she also shows up in the Bible. And most Christians have no idea.Michael Miller sits down with Nelly Van Sickle, pastor of Evergreen Calvary Chapel and host of The Dancing Toaster podcast, to trace the biblical and historical case for Lilith as a genuine supernatural entity. Starting with Isaiah 34:14 and working outward through the Septuagint, the Vulgate, and the Dead Sea Scrolls, this isn't mythology dressed up as scripture. It's scripture first, history second.Nelly also shares what happened when he started researching her. The demonic oppression that began almost immediately. And what finally made it stop.Along the way they cover the "Adam's first wife" theory and why Genesis 2 shuts it down, the connection between Psalm 91:5-6 and "the terror of the night," a Dead Sea Scroll exorcism hymn that names a lilit-type entity by class, and the question of what happened to the women who cohabitated with the sons of God in Genesis 6.If you've been curious about Lilith and wanted an answer that actually starts with the biblical text, this episode is for you.Scripture References: Isaiah 34:14 | Psalm 91:5-6 | Genesis 4:22 | Genesis 6:1-4 | Leviticus 17:7 | 2 Chronicles 11:15 | Deuteronomy 12 0:00 – Introduction5:52 – Supernatural Encounters16:24 – Lilith in Isaiah 3427:15 – Ancient Near East Context39:19 – Adam's First Wife Debunked45:51 – Dead Sea Scrolls Evidence56:07 – Female Demonic Entities1:03:56 – Final ThoughtsINTRO TO DELIVERANCE MINISTRY: https://www.theremnantradio.com/intro-to-deliverance-ministrySubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. What Is the Gift of Discernment of Spirits? (It's Not What You Think)

Most teaching on this gift goes one direction: detect the demon, cast it out, move on. But what if that's only a fraction of what Paul actually meant? In 1 Corinthians 12:10, Paul lists the gift of discernment of spirits and says nothing else. The silence has fueled real debate, and in this episode Michael Rowntree walks through the three most serious scholarly positions and tells you where he lands. Michael examines the Source Testing View (held by Wayne Grudem and D.A. Carson), the Prophecy Weighing View (from Gordon Fee's commentary on 1 Corinthians), and the Prophecy Interpreting View (from scholar Doenberg). Each view has real exegetical arguments behind it. None of them are dismissed lightly. But they're not all equally convincing. But stay for the story at the end. It happened at a Remnant Conference. A quiet prayer room. Three words that showed up and shouldn't have made sense until they made all the sense in the world. That story is why this gift matters.0:00 – Introduction1:36 – Source Testing (Grudem & Carson)7:31 – Prophecy Weighing (Fee)10:57 – Prophecy Interpreting (Doenberg)13:31 – Where Michael Lands14:50 – Discernment in Practice18:17 – ConclusionINTRODUCTION TO DELIVERANCE MINISTRY:https://www.theremnantradio.com/intro-to-deliverance-ministrySubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Can Christians Be Cursed? Responding to Smart Christians Channel

Corey Minor of the Smart Christians Channel recently posted a detailed response to Michael Miller's appearance on Deep End with Lecrae, challenging the biblical basis for generational curses and deliverance ministry. In this episode, the Remnant Radio team engages that critique directly with respect for Corey as a Christian brother and honest disagreement with his conclusions. The core question on the table: Can believers be cursed? Can unbelievers? Is anyone born under a curse? And is the term "generational curse" even biblical language? The guys unpack the Hebrew words ārar, qālal, and ālāh, expose what they believe is an etymological fallacy at the heart of Corey's argument, and trace the theology of blessing and curse from Genesis 3 through the Deuteronomic covenant all the way to Galatians 3 and the new covenant promises of Jeremiah 31.They also wrestle honestly with their own disagreements. Miller makes the case for demonic spirits traveling down family lines (citing Mark 9 and the demonized boy who'd suffered "since infancy"). Rowntree prefers the language of "generational consequences" over "generational curses." And Lewis draws a distinction between God as active agent vs. passive agent in the Deuteronomic curses -- with both Job and 1 Kings 22 shaping his thinking.Part 2 is coming. The team still needs to address whether unbelievers can curse others, how curses actually operate metaphysically, and why not everyone in a family line seems to be equally affected.0:00 – Introduction & Episode Roadmap10:24 – Corey Minor Clip One14:14 – Responding to Clip One31:09 – Hebrew Words for Curse36:48 – Covenant Curse Framework56:42 – Jeremiah 31 New Covenant1:00:09 – Automatic vs. Active Freedom1:04:59 – Deuteronomic Curses Today1:13:27 – ClosingINTRODUCTION TO DELIVERANCE MINISTRY: https://www.theremnantradio.com/intro-to-deliverance-ministrySubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. The Redacted History of Deliverance in the Church | David Miller

What if the Church has been quietly erasing one of its most powerful practices for centuries, and we're paying for it right now?The Remnant Radio welcomes Reverend David Miller, pastor of Church Tsidkenu, to unpack the hidden, and often deliberately suppressed, history of exorcism and deliverance ministry throughout church history. David is the author of Redacted, a three-year research project that traces deliverance from the early church fathers all the way to the 20th century. What he found is striking: deliverance and revival move together. And when one is removed, the other tends to collapse shortly after. We walk through how the early church treated demonization as an assumed reality, how the medieval period saw a near-total collapse of effective exorcism, and how the Reformation ironically helped birth the modern assumption that Christians cannot have demons. David argues this isn't ancient orthodoxy. It's a pendulum swing traceable to John Calvin's polemical response to Catholic abuses, and it spread from there. We also dig into the Azusa Street controversy. David makes a compelling case that Charles Parham's now-maligned critique of the revival wasn't racial antagonism, but rather a legitimate spiritual diagnosis. Bizarre manifestations, moral fractures among leaders, and the systematic exclusion of deliverance from the revival's framework all point to something darker than the standard Pentecostal narrative admits. We close with the 20th-century resurgence of deliverance through figures like Derek Prince, Win Worley, Frank Hammond, and others. We discuss which schools of thought are most helpful for someone brand new to this ministry. If you've been frustrated by a church culture that either dismisses deliverance ministry or refuses to confront the abuses of it, this episode is for you.0:00 – Introduction1:56 – David Miller Background3:08 – Redacted Book Overview7:07 – Revival & Deliverance Pattern9:42 – Christians and Demonization18:25 – Exorcism in the Middle Ages34:00 – Luther-Calvin Baptismal Debate38:50 – George Fox Redacted41:29 – Azusa Street & Parham50:16 – 20th Century Deliverance Figures53:08 – Strategic Spiritual Warfare1:00:52 – Closing ThoughtsABOUT THE GUEST:📖BOOK: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/redacted-david-m-miller/1144098925⛪CHURCH: https://www.churchtknh.org/INTRODUCTION TO DELIVERANCE MINISTRY:https://www.theremnantradio.com/intro-to-deliverance-ministrySubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Can the Demonic Counterfeit the Holy Spirit's Gifts?

Warning: Not everything that looks like the Holy Spirit is the Holy Spirit - and the Church needs to know the difference!Healings, prophecies, tongues, signs, and wonders are on the rise in the Church, but so is deception. We have to ask: Can the demonic actually counterfeit the gifts of the Holy Spirit? In this episode, we explore Scripture, church history, and theology to give you a serious, grounded answer. From the sorcerers of Pharaoh's court mimicking the miracles of Moses (Exodus 7:11–12), to the witch of Endor who brings up Samuel from the dead (1 Samuel 28), to the slave girl in Philippi whose spirit of divination produced accurate prophecy (Acts 16:16–18), the Bible is remarkably frank that the enemy is in the business of imitation. Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14), and his servants are no different.Working through passages like Deuteronomy 13, Acts 16:16-18, Matthew 7:21-23, 2 Thessalonians 2:9-11, and 1 John 4:1-3, the guys walk through a biblical framework for discernment. Doctrine matters. But so does character, track record, submission to a local body, and the spiritual gift of discernment of spirits. They also wrestle with one of the strangest categories in Scripture: unbelievers who traffic in real spiritual power. Balaam. Caiaphas. The judges. The slave girl in Philippi who prophesied accurate things by a python spirit. What do we do with that? The answer isn't to run from the supernatural, but rather to pursue maturity so you can recognize the real thing. The goal isn't fear. It's discernment. Moses didn't stop demonstrating God's power just because Pharaoh's magicians could mimic a few signs. And the church today shouldn't either. We pursue the genuine. We hold it up against the false. And we trust that Yahweh is still greater than the gods of Egypt.0:00 – Introduction5:13 – Counterfeit Miracles Defined7:45 – Pharaoh's Magicians Examined13:08 – Discerning True vs. False19:36 – Slave Girl, Deuteronomy 1331:37 – Unbelievers Trafficking Holy Spirit47:38 – Eschatological False Prophets54:04 – Personal Experiences Shared58:09 – Biblical Evidence Summary1:00:54 – Closing: Christ-Centered GiftsINTRODUCTION TO DELIVERANCE MINISTRY:https://www.theremnantradio.com/intro-to-deliverance-ministrySubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. The 3,000 Hidden Connections in Your New Testament | Dr. Ben Gladd with The Gospel Coalition

Did you know the Bible has thousands of hidden threads woven through it that most Christians have never been shown? There are approximately 350 direct Old Testament quotations in the New Testament, but over 3,000 allusions - indirect references scholars have documented that never made it into study Bibles.Dr. Benjamin Gladd, executive director of the Carson Center for Theological Renewal at The Gospel Coalition joins the show to talk about Connecting Scripture, a unique, first-of-its-kind study Bible he co-authored with G.K. Beale, that makes exploring these threads possible for the everyday Christian. This isn't just a study Bible upgrade. It's a whole new way of reading. Ben explains the difference between a direct quotation - those flashing red lights moments like "that it might be fulfilled" - and an allusion, which functions more like an Easter egg hidden in the text. Think of John 1:1 ("In the beginning was the Word") deliberately echoing Genesis 1:1.We also get into some of the harder questions. What do you do when the New Testament seems to use the Old Testament in ways that invert or even contradict the original meaning? And how did the Apostles read the Scriptures? Did the Old Testament authors actually know what they were writing? This episode is the kind of biblical theology content that feeds your soul and sharpens your mind. Are All Unbelievers Demonized? What the Bible Says

Are most, if not all, unbelievers demonized? It sounds extreme. But Scripture might be less ambiguous about this than the modern church wants to admit. Most Christians default to one picture when they hear the word "demonized" - the Gadarene demoniac from Mark 5, a naked man in the tombs, chains broken, screaming at Jesus. That's a level 10. But the Bible describes demonic influence across a spectrum, and the passages we tend to skip suggest that every person outside of Christ is somewhere on it.Paul says the "god of this age" has blinded the minds of unbelievers (2 Corinthians 4:4). He describes Satan as the spirit actively at work in "the sons of disobedience" (Ephesians 2:2). John writes that "the whole world lies in the power of the evil one" (1 John 5:19). And in 1 Corinthians 10, Paul makes the explicit connection between idol worship and demon worship, which means that since everyone worships something before coming to Christ, no one gets a pass. This isn't a fringe charismatic idea. It's the Bible's own framework for understanding the spiritual condition of the lost. And if it's true, it changes everything: how we pray, how we evangelize, and what it means to walk someone out of darkness and into the kingdom. In this episode, we examine the biblical case and ask the most important follow-up question: what should believers actually be doing about it?0:00 – Introduction4:50 – Defining Demonization8:46 – Possession vs. Oppression Spectrum15:17 – Satan's Biblical Dominion22:41 – Kingdom Transfer Scriptures37:26 – Moral Responsibility Question42:44 – Fear vs. Engagement55:01 – Deliverance at Conversion?INTRO TO DELIVERANCE MINISTRY:📚 https://www.theremnantradio.com/intro-to-deliverance-ministrySubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Lies, Plagiarism, and Cover-Up: Everything You Need to Know About Jeremiah Johnson

What happens when a charismatic prophet's own documented words contradict each other repeatedly, across years, in print and on video? Joshua Lewis and Michael Rowntree bring independent researcher Joshua Harris onto Remnant Radio to walk through the cumulative case on Jeremiah Johnson: prophetic inconsistency, documented plagiarism, and a pattern that the body of Christ needs to weigh carefully.Joshua Harris has spent months building a documented, timestamped case across multiple categories, and what he found goes far deeper than one bad prophecy or one misremembered detail. This is the one-stop episode on everything regarding the allegations against Jeremiah Johnson: false prophecy, plagiarism, fabricated testimony, and what a leaked leadership meeting reveals about how Jeremiah is spinning the narrative behind closed doors.0:00 – Introduction5:28 – Trump Trumpet Prophecy16:20 – Jeremiah's Response22:18 – Boom in the Upper Room39:14 – Josiah Johnson Plagiarism43:47 – Lauren Sanford Plagiarism52:23 – JD Hall Plagiarism56:14 – Gift of Manasseh1:09:07 – Elder Board Confrontations1:25:20 – Leaked Leadership Meeting1:43:14 – Response and AppealSubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Hot Takes on Deliverance: Impartation, Generational Spirits, Sleeper Agent Demons & More

What if your theology of deliverance has blind spots you haven't considered yet? Joshua Lewis, Michael Rowntree, and Michael Miller consider some provocative ideas about how the demonic operates, and then push back on each other to find solid ground. This is theology done with friends around a table. Not from a pulpit. Demonic Impartation from False Teachers? What the Bible Says

What if the altar call you attended wasn't from God at all? And what if the spirit being imparted had nothing to do with the Holy Spirit? These aren't hypothetical questions, they're the testimonies of real believers who've come to us with real experiences.Joshua Lewis has spent over five years wrestling with an uncomfortable question: can a Christian receive a demonic impartation from a false teacher? In this episode, he lays out the biblical case, engages the hard testimonies, and refuses to give an easy answer, because the scriptures don't offer one.The goal of this episode isn't to make you afraid of every altar call. It's to make you fluent enough in the true gospel that you can tell the real thing from a counterfeit. Because the shield isn't fear -- it's the gospel itself. Know it well enough to recognize when someone is preaching another Jesus, another spirit, another gospel (2 Corinthians 11:4). Reviewing Catholic Exorcist on The Shawn Ryan Show

Millions of people just got a deep-dive on demonic oppression, generational curses, and exorcism from a Catholic exorcist on one of the biggest podcasts in America. We're taking a look at the conversation and seeing how these practices line-up with Scripture.Father Chad Ripperger is a Roman Catholic priest, theologian, philosopher, and exorcist serving in the Archdiocese of Denver, and founder of the Society of the Most Sorrowful Mother, a religious community dedicated to spiritual warfare, deliverance ministry, and traditional Catholic liturgy. His recent appearance on the Shawn Ryan Show wasn't a fringe internet moment, but drew millions of viewers. The episode covered generational curses, ancestral spirits, and the structure of the demonic realm. Some of what Ripperger teaches resonates with Scripture, while some of it raises real questions worth reviewing. We'll look at what the Bible actually says about this, where Catholic and Protestant deliverance ministries share common ground, and where they don't.0:00 – Introduction2:05 – Protestant vs. Catholic4:17 – Curses and Oppression9:27 – Cursed Media Debate22:12 – Angelic Knowledge Claims33:08 – Demon of Fear45:03 – Occult Knowledge Downloads56:15 – Delore: Demonic Pain1:05:05 – Closing ThoughtsSubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Melissa Dougherty on Apologetics and Raising Kids Who Can Think

Are you raising your kids to survive the spiritual war or just survive Sunday school? Melissa Dougherty (apologist, author, and fellow YouTube creator) is back on Remnant Radio, and this time she's brought a children's gospel allegory and a straight-talking framework for raising kids who can actually defend their faith in the real world. Most Christian parents want to pass the faith to their kids, but somewhere between memorizing Psalm 23 and answering questions about dinosaurs and reincarnation, the strategy gets fuzzy. Melissa Dougherty, known for her work on new thought, new age, and Christian apologetics, brings her background in early childhood education to a conversation that every Christian parent needs to hear.We dig into the real challenge facing Christian parents today: how do you disciple kids in a world that is actively working to undo everything you teach them? Melissa offers practical wisdom for every parenting stage, from toddlers asking "Who made God?" to teenagers staring blankly through family devotion time. Additionally, we discuss how to celebrate the resurrection with joy and intentionality, why Christians should be making a bigger deal of Easter than Christmas, and how to think through the Easter Bunny, Easter eggs, and commercial culture without either being legalistic or losing the point. 0:00 – Introduction1:29 – Melissa Dougherty Background2:32 – Brave Books Partnership6:11 – Allegory & Gospel13:06 – Human Sin Nature19:44 – Teaching Kids Theology27:44 – Family Devotions39:14 – Easter & Resurrection53:00 – Book & ClosingABOUT THE GUEST:📖 BOOK https://bravebooks.us/products/the-day-that-made-the-way📺 PREVIOUS EPISODE WITH MELISSA https://youtube.com/live/JQTWQ7j5SS0Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. When Science Discovers Demons: The Rise of Secular Exorcism

What happens when secular clinicians start doing what Jesus commissioned His disciples to do?Licensed psychiatrists, psychologists and therapists are encountering something in their patients they can't fully explain: external entities that aren't part of the self, that want to destroy, torment, and deceive. What they're calling "unattached burdens," the body of Christ has been calling demons for two thousand years. Josh is joined by Michael Miller and guest David Fish to dig into Robert Falconer's book The Others Within Us. They discuss what happens when the clinical sciences start bumping into the supernatural.Robert Falconer is not a Christian and doesn't believe in demons - at least not officially. But in his book The Others Within Us, he documents something that every deliverance minister will recognize: external entities that enter traumatized people and set up shop. They come in through open wounds. They offer false comfort. They isolate. They destroy. And when you try to reason with them, they can't see anything true or good.He calls them Unattached Burdens. We call them demons. Same thing. We walk through Falconer's framework step by step, the Internal Family Systems model that underlies it, the diagnostic tests he uses to tell human "parts" from outside entities, and the clinical process he follows to try to remove them. It's genuinely impressive how much he gets right. And it's genuinely concerning because without the authority of Christ, without repentance, without the Holy Spirit, "secular exorcism" may be simply moving entities around more than casting them out.C.S. Lewis's "chronological snobbery" gets brought up for good reason: the ancient near east understood spiritual warfare better than the modern materialist west ever has. But the secular world is waking up. Insurance companies are covering Reiki. New Age and Wicca are exploding. The spiritual landscape is shifting fast, and the body of Christ needs to recover its authority in this space.0:00 – Introduction2:10 – Guest David Fish9:44 – Robert Falconer's Framework17:45 – Diagnosing UBs vs. Self37:42 – How UBs Enter41:31 – Secular Exorcism Methods49:32 – Sending UBs Away1:04:54 – Closing ThoughtsINTRO TO DELIVERANCE MINISTRY: https://www.theremnantradio.com/intro-to-deliverance-ministrySubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. How to Heal & Find a Healthy Church | Church Hurt, Red Flags & Real Recovery

If you've been burned by the church, this episode is for you.Church hurt isn't rare, it isn't new, and it isn't evidence that something is uniquely broken in you. From prophetic words that never came to pass, to pastors who weaponized loyalty language, to leadership boards that protected predators instead of people, church hurt and spiritual abuse happen. Many believers are left sitting on the edges of the body of Christ, quietly debating whether walking back through those doors is even worth it.What makes this moment different is that people are no longer just recognizing these patterns at the national level. They're seeing them in their own local churches: the same cover-ups, the same gaslighting, the same spiritual abuse dressed up in theological language. And the question they're asking isn't just "what went wrong?" It's "how do I ever trust again?"In this episode, Joshua Lewis gives you the theological grounding to stop blaming yourself, the cultural and structural markers to help you spot a healthy church before you're two years deep in another painful situation, and the practical steps to walk back in - slowly, wisely, and without getting burned again. If you or someone you love is theologically homeless right now or wondering how to find a healthy church, this one is worth your full attention.0:00 – Introduction0:15 – Church Hurt Narrative5:24 – Disillusionment Defined6:13 – Leadership Failures Normalized10:12 – Enemy's Isolation Tactic12:14 – Head vs. Heart Tension13:27 – Nine Marks Overview20:09 – Cultural Markers (Krueger)27:28 – Finding a Healthy ChurchRESOURCES MENTIONED:📖Nine Marks of a Healthy Church by Mark Dever https://a.co/d/01cz5F9t📖Bully Pulpit by Michael Kruger https://a.co/d/081hfOmw🌐9Marks Ministry: www.9marks.orgSubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. God's Judgment Is GOOD News | Dr. Tom Schreiner on Justice, Hell & What the Bible Actually Teaches

The mainstream church doesn't want to talk about judgment, but the Bible won't stop. Dr. Tom Schreiner, one of the most respected New Testament scholars in the evangelical world and a professor at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, joins Remnant Radio for a straight-shooting conversation on what Scripture actually teaches about divine justice, eternal punishment, and why recovering this doctrine is urgent for the body of Christ right now.If you want to understand why divine justice is not God's dark side but His very goodness on display, this conversation is for you.0:00 – Introduction1:43 – Dr. Schreiner's Background3:35 – Cultural Allergy to Judgment8:07 – God's Holiness & Justice11:19 – Wrath vs. Judgment22:39 – Annihilationism vs. Eternal Conscious Punishment39:09 – Jesus on Judgment41:20 – Atonement & Propitiation46:29 – Judgment as Vindication50:03 – Justification & Works56:02 – Assurance of SalvationSubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Are Charismatic Leaders Repeating Rome's Biggest Mistakes?

Maybe history doesn't exactly repeat itself, but it does have a way of rhyming. In many charismatic spaces today, some of the most troubling patterns from pre-Reformation Rome have resurfaced, and the body of Christ deserves an honest conversation about it. As continuationists, we aren't here to tear down Spirit-filled Christianity, but rather protect it.In this episode of Remnant Radio, Joshua, Michael, and Michael walk through parallels between the errors of Rome and what we're seeing in charismatic church culture today. We'll cover the full spectrum: from the way extra-biblical practices have entered in to the church, to the devastating sexual immorality scandals that keep surfacing, to the cultural pressure that silences anyone who dares to question a prominent voice and more.If you've been burned by a church system that protected its brand over its people, this one's for you. If you're a charismatic believer who still believes in the gifts but can't ignore what you're seeing, we invite you to pull up a chair.0:00 – Introduction3:11 – Charismatic Self-Critique8:40 – Papal Authority Parallels25:07 – Unverified Miracle Claims35:53 – Indulgences & Simony46:42 – Extra-Biblical Practices56:31 – Clergy as Mediators1:05:18 – Sexual Immorality Parallels1:09:54 – Silencing DissentSubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Cosmic Spiritual Warfare Explained: Eden, Nephilim, Babel, and the Victory of Jesus

The unseen battle is more real than most of us realize — and the Bible has a lot more to say about it than we've been taught.Dr. Joel Muddamalle, director of theology and research at Proverbs 31 Ministries, joins Joshua Lewis to unpack the cosmic spiritual warfare woven throughout Scripture — from the Garden of Eden to the cross of Christ. Drawing on his PhD research in biblical theology under Dr. Patrick Schreiner and the late Dr. Michael Heiser, Joel walks us through the divine council worldview, the two-family household of God, and why the supernatural rebellion described in Genesis 6 and Deuteronomy 32:8–9 isn't just ancient history — it's the backstory of the gospel itself. We cover:-Eden as the mountain of God and the original household of the divine council-The sons of God (Ben Elohim), the Nephilim, and what Genesis 6 is actually describing-The Tower of Babel, the scattering of nations, and the gods placed over them-How Christ's death, resurrection, and ascension disarms the rulers and authorities-What spiritual warfare actually looks like in the everyday life of a believer0:00 – Introduction4:10 – Book’s purpose12:13 – Numb to supernatural18:56 – Eden as temple24:11 – God's two-family household32:03 – “Let us” debate42:43 – Genesis 6 Nephilim54:00 – Ancient myths context1:06:05 – Babel and nations1:16:40 – Jesus and powers1:29:50 – Spiritual warfare today1:40:29 – Closing thoughtsABOUT THE GUEST:📖BOOK https://a.co/d/0i4GE3x5Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Bethel Closed The BSSM Alumni Group!

Bethel Church has shut down the BSSM Alumni Facebook Group — a 5,000+ member community where former students had been raising concerns, sharing experiences, and asking for accountability. Now Bethel has issued a public statement. We read it. We talked about it. And we're not going to pretend it doesn't raise serious questions. To be clear, we're continuationists. We believe in the ongoing work of the Spirit. We want Spirit-filled churches to thrive, which is exactly why we care when transparency breaks down, when safe church processes get sidestepped, and when "move this to proper channels" starts to sound more like damage control than genuine pastoral care. What does real accountability look like when leadership is under scrutiny? Does centralizing these conversations protect the vulnerable or does it protect the institution? What does real repentance and meaningful accountability look like when leadership is under scrutiny? If you love the gifts of the Spirit and you love the Word, you already know these two things aren't in tension: a church can be Spirit-filled and biblically accountable. We're holding out for both. This conversation is for anyone who cares about charismatic theology, church reform, and building communities where the most vulnerable are protected - not silenced.0:00 – Introduction1:39 – Alumni Page Overview3:36 – Reading Bethel's Statement8:01 – Silencing Victims14:14 – Ben Armstrong Investigation18:42 – Double-Speak Exposed22:01 – Path to RepentanceSubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. It's Not Just Bethel & IHOP: How to Handle Exposure in Your Own Church

We've spent a lot of time talking about what biblical accountability looks like at the national level - Bethel, Shawn Bolz, Mike Bickle, Chris Reed, or Michael Brown to name a few - examining cover-up culture that protects powerful leaders while silencing victims. But here's the question we keep getting in the comments and in our inboxes: What do I do when it's happening in my own church? That's a harder question — and honestly, a more important one.In this episode, Joshua Lewis, Michael Miller, and Michael Rowntree come back to ground level: your actual local church, where you know these people, where your kids go to Sunday school, where you serve. What does Matthew 18 actually look like when you're sitting across the table from an elder who won't listen? When do you escalate? When do you leave? When do you go public following 1 Timothy 5 — and is that ever right for a layperson to do?We're walking through the biblical process step by step, giving you real categories for navigating one of the hardest situations a believer can face. This isn't about gossip, mob justice, or protecting institutions. It's about protecting people — and honoring the Word of God in the process.0:00 – Introduction3:10 – Local Church Exposure Questions4:28 – Sins Requiring Public Exposure15:37 – Handling Private Repentant Sin 26:00 – Matthew 18 Church Discipline36:38 – Church Whistleblower Accountability45:26 – 1 Timothy 5 Elders Discipline52:38 – When to Go Public 54:45 – Leaving Abusive Church Leadership1:00:23 – Dangers of Toxic Church Culture1:01:35 – Healthy Repentance and DisciplineSubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. What are Words of Knowledge and Words of Wisdom? 1 Corinthians 12 Explained

Paul lists words of wisdom and words of knowledge in 1 Corinthians 12:8 alongside healings, miracles, prophecy, tongues, and interpretation. But he never defines them. That silence has sparked a real debate in the body of Christ, and in this episode Michael Rowntree works through it carefully. Are these giftings simply elevated Bible teaching, or are they something more? Are they specific, Spirit-initiated operations that reveal hidden things, provide supernatural guidance, and speak into real-life situations? Michael walks through the major interpretive positions, from cessationist scholars like Dr. Tom Schreiner to charismatic perspectives. He'll examine the biblical moments that make you stop: Jesus knowing the woman at the well's full story before she said a word (John 4:17–18). Peter confronting Ananias and Sapphira with information no one told him (Acts 5:1–11). Paul warning a ship's captain of coming disaster before a storm cloud appeared (Acts 27:9–10). Are those words of knowledge and words of wisdom in action?By the end you'll have working definitions of revelation, prophecy, word of knowledge, and word of wisdom. And you'll sit with Paul's deeper question: are we using these gifts to exalt Jesus and build up the body of Christ, or to build a platform for ourselves?0:00 – Introduction0:04 – Defining the question0:34 – Reading 1 Corinthians 121:52 – Cessationist teaching view3:17 – Contextual pushback5:22 – Word of knowledge defined6:15 – Word of wisdom defined7:19 – Cluster of extraordinary gifts8:24 – Knowledge under prophecy11:05 – Blending gift categories14:34 – Defining key terms16:00 – Using gifts rightly16:37 – Closing thoughtsSubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Exposure Ministry: Is It Biblical?

Is “exposure ministry” biblical or just Christian gossip? In this episode of Remnant Radio, we dig into what the New Testament actually says about exposing sin, calling out false teachers, and practicing church discipline, and we ask the hard question: when does discernment become destruction of the body of Christ? We walk through passages like Ephesians 5, Matthew 18, and 1 Timothy 5 and explore: when does the Bible command us to bring things into the light, who is responsible to confront it, and what is the end goal—repentance, restoration, and protection of the flock, or outrage and entertainment? If you’ve ever wondered whether calling out false teachers online is a prophetic assignment or a fleshly hobby, this episode will help you think biblically and critically.0:00 – Introduction0:47 – Exposure vs Coverup Culture4:42 – Biblical Theology Exposure Ministry11:15 – Leaders Accountable Biblical Law14:38 – Elders Duty Investigating Sin18:04 – Communal Responsibility21:14 – Culpability Remaining Silent 32:48 – Prophets Confronting Institutional Power36:40 – Misapplying Matthew 18 Rebukes39:13 – John the Baptist Public Rebukes43:15 – Jesus Correcting Pharisees Publicly52:08 – Paul Rebuking Peter 54:57 – Protecting the Flock 59:17 – Defining Slander 106:04 – Navigating Unhealthy Church Cultures115:14 – Closing Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Can You Train Spiritual Gifts?

Can you train someone in spiritual gifts? Joshua Lewis walks through why training doesn’t manufacture gifts of the Spirit, but rather creates a biblical, accountable community to discover and steward the spiritual gifts God has already given. If you’ve wondered how to grow in spiritual gifts without sliding into charismatic chaos, this episode will give you biblical categories, guardrails, and practical next steps. The Charismatic Movement: Is Any of It Real?

When the dust settles after spiritual abuse and public scandal, is any of this charismatic stuff actually real—or should you walk away from it all for good? Many believers are asking hard questions: “If so much has been falsified, are all prophecies fake? Are healings just wishful thinking? How do I trust again?” In this episode of Remnant Radio, Joshua Lewis, Michael Rowntree and Michael Miller open up as pastors and fellow survivors of charismatic fallout to help you process the pain without abandoning the work of the Spirit. The hosts will examine:-Can a “cheater” still give an accurate prophetic word?-How do we discern between genuine Christian prophecy, demonic counterfeits, and pure manipulation?-What do we do with verified healings or real words of knowledge that came through morally compromised ministries?-How do we honor spiritual gifts without platforming abusive leaders or building new celebrity cultures? This episode is deeply pastoral and aimed at those who feel spiritually disoriented, retraumatized, or jaded after charismatic abuse. If you’re struggling with charismatic ministry gone wrong, this is a safe space to process without being shamed for your doubts. You’ll hear how to move from gullibility, through cynicism, into true discernment—learning to separate God’s voice from human abuse, and the gifts of the Spirit from the sins of leaders.0:00 – Introduction1:53 – Pastoral scandal response3:05 – Miller’s abuse testimony4:00 – Josh’s prophetic trauma7:18 – Gifts still real biblically12:00 – Abuse across church offices17:19 – Cheaters getting it right19:48 – Four power sources23:04 – Don’t trust exposed prophets28:16 – Ordinary means of grace30:56 – Healing and discernment process36:01 – Submit gifts to God39:18 – Final pastoral encouragementSubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. The Lord's Prayer: A Blueprint for Kingdom Living & Spiritual Warfare

Have you been praying the Lord's Prayer all wrong? We sit down with Brad Gray and Brad Nelson from Walking The Text to discuss their book Bringing Heaven Here and their cinematic feature film on the Lord's Prayer. And trust us, this isn't your Sunday school recap. Our conversation explores the historical, geographical, and biblical context of the most familiar prayer in Christian theology, revealing layers you've probably never noticed: Exodus connections, first-century Jewish cosmology, the kingdom of God as spiritual warfare, and why Jesus structured this prayer as the blueprint for kingdom living.Turns out, the Lord's Prayer isn't just something to recite—it's a declaration of war against the forces of darkness and a daily roadmap for partnering with God's mission on earth. We explore how "Our Father in the heavens" (yes, that's plural!) connects to ancient Israelite cosmology, why the kingdom of God is the heartbeat of Jesus's ministry, and how every line of this prayer maps onto Christ's life and mission. We'll also tackle spiritual warfare from a biblical perspective, challenging both hyper-charismatic extremes and the dangerous denial that evil is real. If you've ever felt stuck between "there's a demon behind every bush" and "spiritual warfare isn't really a thing," this episode will recalibrate your understanding.Plus, we get into the nerdy stuff: the Didache's instruction to pray this three times a day, the connection between the Shema and daily prayer rhythms, how liturgy functions as operating software for the soul, and why the Sermon on the Mount is structured with the Lord's Prayer at its center. If you've been treating the Lord's Prayer like a religious formality, prepare to have your mind blown. This is about joining Jesus in the mission of bringing heaven to earth—pushing out chaos, advancing God's rule and reign, and living with eyes wide open to the war unfolding around us.0:00 – Introduction5:35 – Why create a book on the Lord's Prayer8:34 – The Lord's Prayer as blueprint for life14:24 – How the prayer condenses Jesus's ministry23:16 – "Our Father" and the Exodus 4 connection31:38 – "In the Heavens": Ancient Jewish cosmology44:54 – Spiritual warfare and advancing God's kingdom55:46 – Resources and closingABOUT THE GUESTS:🎬 FILM: https://www.angel.com/movies/lords-prayer📖 BOOK: https://a.co/d/fBY6i8a📺 TV SERIES: https://thesacredthread.com/🌐 WEBSITE: TheLordsPrayer.comSubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. The Fall of the Charismatic Movement

What does the charismatic movement look like after the fallout from Bethel, IHOP, and Hillsong and prominent figures like Shawn Bolz, Todd White, Todd Bentley and Dr. Michael Brown? What comes next for those who still believe the Spirit moves today? Join us as we address the collapse of major charismatic institutions and leaders, and the pathway to rebuilding something better. As continuationists who believe in the biblical continued use of spiritual gifts, we're asking the hard questions from inside the house: What went wrong? How did movements that claimed to champion the Holy Spirit end up producing so much spiritual abuse, financial scandal, and theological compromise? We'll explore the theological foundations that cracked under pressure, the celebrity culture that replaced accountability, and the prophetic voices that missed the mark. But this isn't just an autopsy, rather it's a blueprint for renewal. We're laying out what a reformed charismatic movement could look like: one anchored in biblical theology, marked by genuine accountability, and free from the hype-driven circus that's dominated the landscape. How do we reclaim the authentic work of the Holy Spirit while rejecting the excesses? What safeguards need to be in place to prevent future scandals? Who is the Angel of the LORD? Hidden Appearances of Jesus in the Old Testament

Who is the mysterious “Angel of the LORD” who keeps showing up all over the Old Testament—and why does he talk, act, and receive worship as if he is God Himself? In this episode, Joshua Lewis walks through key Old Testament passages to argue that the Angel of the LORD is not a created angel at all, but the pre-incarnate Son of God, Jesus Christ, appearing long before Bethlehem. From Hagar in the wilderness, to Abraham on Mount Moriah, to Moses at the burning bush, to Gideon in the wine press, these Old Testament stories form a consistent pattern: this Angel carries the divine name, makes covenant promises, swears by Himself, declares “I am the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,” accepts worship and sacrifice, and is recognized as Yahweh—with no correction from Scripture. Josh carefully exegetes key passages like Genesis 16, Genesis 22, Exodus 3, and Judges 6, showing how the biblical authors themselves move seamlessly between “the Angel of the LORD” and “Yahweh,” presenting one divine being in more than one person.Along the way, we explore how this fits within Christian theology, biblical prophecy, and the developing revelation of the Trinity. How can God the Father be “invisible” and yet God is repeatedly seen in the Old Testament? How does the New Testament’s teaching that the Son is “the image of the invisible God” resolve this tension? And what does it mean for spiritual warfare, for covenant, and for our reading of the entire Bible if Jesus has been present and active in redemptive history from the very beginning? If you’re hungry for a deeper dive into Christian theology, Old Testament theophanies, and the identity of the Angel of the LORD as the pre-incarnate Christ, this episode will help you see Jesus woven all through the story of Israel - speaking, saving, commissioning, judging, forgiving, and revealing the Father long before the incarnation.00:00 – The Mystery of the Angel of the LORD Introduced01:55 – The Angel of the LORD as the Pre-Incarnate Son of God (Thesis)02:14 – Genesis 16: The Angel of the LORD Appears to Hagar06:13 – Genesis 22: The Angel swears by Himself to Abraham09:08 – Exodus 3: The Angel in the Burning Bush12:11 – Judges 6: The Angel Commissions Gideon17:56 – Summary: What the Angel Does Only God Can Do18:47 – The Son as the Image of the Invisible God20:06 – Jesus Has Always Been Present in God’s StorySubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Did Bethel Actually Repent Over Shawn Bolz?

Did Bethel Church actually repent over the Shawn Bolz scandal? In this episode of The Remnant Radio, we carefully examine the public statements and actions of Bethel Church leadership—including Bill Johnson, Kris Vallotton, and Danny Silk—to determine whether their response represents genuine biblical repentance or merely institutional damage control. From questions of prophetic accountability and false prophecy to the broader credibility of charismatic theology, this conversation aims to help believers think clearly, biblically, and sober-mindedly about what true repentance looks like in church leadership. We walk step-by-step through what Bethel leaders said, what they admitted, what they failed to address, and how their response compares to the biblical standard for repentance, confession, and restoration. We also interact with the wider conversation sparked by Mike Winger and others, exploring how prophecy abuse and leadership silence can damage trust in the church and distort the witness of the gospel. As continuationists who affirm the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit, we believe accountability is not an attack on the charismatic movement—it is essential to its integrity.Critical Questions Discussed:-Is Bethel's apology genuine or just PR spin?-What does biblical restoration require beyond saying "I'm sorry"?-Why did it take Mike Winger's exposé for leadership to act?-What about Kenneth Copeland, The Passion Translation, and other concerning endorsements?-How can churches protect victims while reconciling fallen leaders to the body of Christ? Our goal is not to tear down, but to tell the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15), to test everything and hold fast to what is good (1 Thessalonians 5:21), and to call the Church to holiness, transparency, and faithfulness to Christ. If you care about sound theology, responsible use of spiritual gifts, and protecting God’s people from spiritual harm, this conversation is for you.Special thanks to the Bethel alumni who held their leaders accountable—your faithfulness in speaking truth in love catalyzed this moment of repentance. This could be a watershed moment for the charismatic movement if genuine fruit follows these words.0:00 – Introduction2:04 – Context and Prior Bethel Concerns13:23 – Bethel's Response 23:23 – Kris Vallotton's Personal Disclosure30:28 – The Jezebel Passage Misinterpretation33:34 – Bethel's New Core Values 38:10 – Bethel Issues That Remain Unaddressed49:03 – Bill Johnson's Repentance Message1:00:40 – Bill Johnson's TBN Interview Mistake1:17:43 – Danny Silk's Email 1:34:05 – Final ThoughtsSubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Science PROVES God Exists | Here's How

Can science actually PROVE God exists? Dr. Antony Latham joins us to explore how the cosmos, consciousness, and the complexity of life all point to divine design—and why the Big Bang might be Christianity's best friend. In this episode of Remnant Radio, Joshua Lewis sits down with retired physician and author Dr. Antony Latham to tackle one of the most critical questions facing believers today: Does science contradict Christian faith, or does it actually confirm it? From his own journey as a teenage skeptic who lost faith studying evolution to becoming a Christian in Kenya and diving deep into biology, consciousness, and cosmology, Antony brings a unique perspective that bridges the gap between the lab and the sanctuary. What We Discuss:-The Big Bang & Biblical Creation -Fine-Tuning of the Universe-The Cambrian Explosion-Consciousness & the Soul -Moral Law & Objective Beauty -Miracles & an Open Universe Whether you're wrestling with doubts about faith and science, or you're looking for solid apologetic tools to strengthen your biblical worldview, this conversation will equip you with evidence-based answers rooted in both Scripture and scientific discovery. 0:00 - Introduction1:04 - From Skeptic to Scientist to Believer5:13 - Big Bang: Friend or Foe to Christian Faith?9:20 - Fine-Tuning Arguments & Cosmological Evidence12:17 - String Theory & Multiple Universe Objections14:03 - The Exquisite Precision of Universal Constants15:37 - God of the Gaps Argument Addressed17:04 - Origin of Life & Irreducible Complexity19:30 - Old Earth Creation & Genesis Interpretation22:56 - The Cambrian Explosion & Fossil Record28:03 - Reading Genesis 1 Poetically & Theologically31:17 - Consciousness & Evidence for the Immaterial Soul35:17 - Moral Objectivity, Beauty, & Free Will41:02 - Mind-Body Dualism & Christian Worldview43:03 - Taking Back Science for the KingdomABOUT THE GUEST:📖Book: "When I Consider Your Heavens: How Science and Philosophy Lead Us to God" https://a.co/d/i4VyGpTSubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Examining Coverup Culture: Bethel Church's Response to Mike Winger

What happens when leaders stay silent about abuse? In this episode, the Remnant Radio hosts—Joshua Lewis, Michael Rowntree, and Michael Miller—break down Mike Winger's explosive six-hour investigation into Shawn Bolz and the devastating coverup culture plaguing charismatic Christianity. The hosts dive deep into the evidence Mike Winger presented showing how Shawn Bolz faked prophetic words through data mining, committed sexual misconduct, and how Bethel Church leadership knew about it for years but failed to warn their own congregation. This isn't just disappointing—it's dangerous. When victims suffered devastating consequences from fraudulent prophecies, where was the public accountability? Joshua, Michael, and Michael also respond to Kris Vallotton's recent sermon that many see as damage control rather than genuine accountability. They examine his claims about social media fake news, family confidentiality, and shepherding complexity—but find these arguments fall short of biblical standards for church discipline. This episode tackles critical questions every Christian needs to wrestle with: -What does biblical prophecy actually look like versus manipulation and fraud? -When should church leaders publicly expose false prophets and abusers? -How do we balance mercy with justice against deception? -What does 1 Timothy 5:19-20 require when multiple witnesses come forward? Whether you're navigating charismatic theology, concerned about spiritual abuse, or simply want to understand what biblical accountability looks like in the modern church, this episode provides crucial insights.EXTRA LINKS:Mike Winger episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GH05S53QlY0&t=14543sBethel Sermon: Starts at 1:41:36 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s25IuN0oDrs0:00 – Introduction0:51 – Overview of Mike Winger's Investigation & Kris Vallotton's Response3:48 – Background on Victims5:38 – Timeline of Bethel's Knowledge 9:50 – Analysis of Kris Vallotton's Speech: Complexities of Shepherding Claim22:04 – Critique of "Everyone Has a Platform" and Fake News Narrative27:03 – Evaluating the "No Family Talks Anymore" Defense34:26 – The Problem of Breaking Confidentiality vs. Protecting Victims43:58 – "Innocent Until Proven Guilty" and the Investigation Excuse55:17 – Using Judas and Broken People as Justification1:10:04 – Were the Prophetic Words Valid? 2026 Prophecies: Revelation From God? Testing Jacobs, Goll, Zadai & More

The 2026 prophecies are out! We're putting those 'words for the year' under the biblical microscope, examining whether the predictions hold water or if they're just repackaged headlines with spiritual wrapping paper.Cindy Jacobs, James Goll, Bishop Joseph Garlington, Samuel Robinson, Kevin Zadai, and Rick Renner have released prophecies shaping how millions of Christians view 2026. But are these genuine revelations from God, or carefully crafted statements vague enough to always land somewhere close to "right"? The Remnant Radio hosts are digging into Scripture to test these prophecies with discernment, wisdom, and solid biblical theology. The Bible gives clear instructions to test prophetic words (1 Thessalonians 5:20-21, 1 John 4:1). True biblical prophecy isn't about vague predictions that sound spiritual. The team will examine whether these prophecies contain revelation from God or enough wiggle room to never technically be wrong. True biblical prophecy isn't about farming the news cycle and repeating what is already known. The hosts will examine whether the claims are already being discussed in public forums. And true biblical prophecy doesn't come from a false prophet - someone who leads people away from Christ through their words or actions (Deut 13:1-5). This is where proper theology and discernment separates genuine revelation from religious performance.Whether you follow these prophetic voices or you're skeptical of the modern prophetic movement, this episode will challenge your thinking about biblical prophecy and evaluating spiritual claims. The guys aren't here to mock—they're here to do what Scripture calls every believer to do: test everything, hold fast to what is good, and protect the flock from deception.0:00 – Introduction2:16 – Purpose for reviewing prophecies4:39 – Rick Renner's 2026 prophecy review18:29 – Kevin Zadai's 2026 prophecy review30:34 – Apostolic Council of Prophetic Elders review38:44 – Critique of Hebrew calendar usage39:06 – Discussion of political elements in prophetic words46:03 – Closing remarks EXTRA LINKS:Joshua Harris Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBUwSNh-r0wRR Passion Translation Episode with Mike Winger: https://youtube.com/live/sDN_50tW1lcSubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Biblical Counseling That Actually Heals: Lessons From Job

What happens when well-meaning advice becomes another layer of trauma? Michael Rowntree unpacks the book of Job to reveal how our responses to suffering people can either deepen their pain or become a pathway to healing—and why the hardest lesson might be learning when to simply sit in silence.Drawing from biblical wisdom and modern trauma therapy principles, this episode explores the dangerous beliefs that blame victims for their suffering, the common Christian platitudes that intensify pain rather than heal it, and the revolutionary practice of presence over advice. You'll discover why seven days of silence proved more helpful than lengthy speeches, how to make space for extreme emotions without condemnation, and why accepting mystery is sometimes the most honest response to suffering.Whether you're a pastor, counselor, friend, or simply someone who wants to minister compassion effectively, this teaching will transform how you approach hurting people. Michael challenges prosperity gospel thinking and retribution theology while offering a tender, Christ-centered alternative rooted in wisdom about how God's people should bear one another's burdens. The ministry of presence. The freedom to lament. Honoring complexity. These aren't just counseling techniques—they're reflections of how Jesus himself approached the broken and bruised. This is trauma-informed care as God designed it.0:00 – Introduction2:00 – Don't Try to Explain Their Suffering4:02 – Don't Blame Victims7:16 – Be Slow to Advise9:20 – Offer the Ministry of Presence10:49 – Make Space for Lament13:42 – Honor the Complexity of PainSubscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. Kat Kerr Goes To Heaven Again & Speaks To Charlie Kirk

Kat Kerr claims she's been caught up to heaven multiple times, and her latest "revelation" involves deceased conservative activist Charlie Kirk now residing in a mansion, eating ice cream, and wielding thousands of arrows to dispel darkness on earth. She also says saints like Oral Roberts work in Jesus's "headquarters" distributing money and ideas to the living through a crystal ball. But here's the question: Does any of this line up with what the Bible actually teaches about heaven, the afterlife, and spiritual warfare? When prophecies don't come true and platforms keep amplifying these voices, what does that do to the credibility of the charismatic movement? In this episode, we unpack the biblical, theological, and practical problems with these claims. We examine what Scripture says about necromancy, testing prophecy, and false prophets in the church. This isn't about being harsh—it's about protecting Christian theology and ensuring genuine prophetic ministry can thrive. We're charismatic Christians who believe in spiritual gifts including prophecy, tongues and healing—but Scripture commands us to test every prophetic word. The charismatic movement needs discernment more than ever. If we want biblical prophecy and genuine spiritual warfare to thrive, we must reject false prophets who prioritize fanciful visions over Scripture. Join us as we defend Christian theology while practicing the gifts of the Spirit with biblical integrity.0:00 – Introduction1:07 – Who Is Kat Kerr and Why Testing Prophecy Matters6:38 – Video 1: Charlie Kirk in Heaven20:52 – Video 1 Analysis35:22 – Video 2: More Charlie Kirk Claims50:12 – Biblical Analysis: No Grief in Heaven?55:27 – The Danger of False Hope1:00:00 – Final Thoughts and Closing WarningsPROPHECY REVIEWS: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMsjeViSScFHAxEWVUTMiJvLHWHF7hOE1Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook.
