Why listen
The Classic Tales Podcast is a weekly audiobook anthology where B.J. Harrison performs public-domain fiction with a warm, traditional narrator style. It is especially good for listeners who want classic short stories, Sherlock Holmes, Wodehouse comedy, Gothic tales, and multi-part adventure novels without committing to a single long series. If you like literary comfort listening, old-fashioned suspense, or discovering famous authors through performance rather than study, this is a strong fit.

My favorite film adaptation is the Disney version with Peter Finch as Alan Breck Stuart, and features a young Peter O'Toole. That mixture of that sort of classic film acting and production combined with a classic story is uniquely satisfying to me. I hope you enjoy another healthy helping of David's adventures. And now, Kidnapped, part 2 of 3

Robert Louis Stevenson, my gateway drug to the classics, wrote a sequel to Kidnapped that is quite good, but not as well known. I've been wanting to do it for some time, but the time didn't seem right. This summer I think we'll give it a go. So that you all can refresh yourselves on David Balfour's story, I'm planning a few more robust vintage episodes during the next few weeks, where we'll hear the entire novel of Kidnapped in three episodes. Now, here's the thing – this is like, one of the first audiobooks I've ever recorded. So while it still gets a fair rating on Audible, you'll hear that I'm still getting my sea legs. Kidnapped has never appeared on The Classic Tales Podcast and has only been available in our retail outlets. And if you've never heard it before, you're in for a real treat. Warts and all. And now, Kidnapped, part 1 of 3, by Robert Louis Stevenson Follow this link to get The Audiobook Library Card for a special price of $9.99/month <a href= "https://store.classictalesaudiobooks.com/multiple-license-program

Before we dive into today's story, I want to start a new little feature called the Word for the Week. Each week, we'll have a definition from the Devil's Lexicographer himself – Ambrose Bierce. Over the course of 30 years, Bierce nearly weekly wrote a cynical definition of a common word, sometimes consisting of poems, which he sold to various newspapers and periodicals. After 30 years, he collected all of these into one volume which came to be called The Devil's Dictionary. In keeping with the spirit of its creation, we'll hear one of his jocular definitions before we begin today's show. So, the Word for the Week is Infancy, and here to read it is Ambrose Bierce himself: INFANCY, n. The period of our lives when, according to Wordsworth, "Heaven lies about us." The world begins lying about us pretty soon afterward. <p class="
