Listen, Honey! I’m Back from The Beach Blessed by the Thrift Gods

Listen, Honey! Y’all know I was heading to the beach for a birthday vacation, right? Well, Lucy, Dylan and I met up with Hannah and James at Panama City, Florida last week and had the best time. It was a little cooler than beach weather so we really just hung out and let the kids run around, but sometimes that’s just what you need to restore your soul, right? We’re at home this week and honestly, I am beat. But I figured it was a good idea to record a little at home episode to fill you in on all the fun we had and places we recommend. Of course, I also go over the pre-vacation part of vacation, which is as important as the vacation itself. I explain the obsession I have right now with meat. Especially ground beef. I’m not one to start a conspiracy theory, but I am a little paranoid about our food system and think we should all be watching it closer than we are. I’ve been a little suspicious that the meat I’m getting at the store just ain’t right. So I have been tracking down some local beef farmers and would encourage you to do the same. I found some and the taste is just better, y’all. At any rate, the ground beef we got at one of our first restaurants in Panama City was about raw. I don’t do that, so I wound up cooking most of the time rather than eating out. Although, when you go to Panama City, you have to stop at Thomas Donuts at least twice.  As I say in the episode, if they don’t have their Chocolate-Covered Cream-Filled Long Johns in Heaven, I’m gonna have to talk to somebody. But the highlight of the trip was that the Thrift Gods smiled on ya girl! I left Goodwill with no less than two full buggies. And that doesn’t count the Salvation Army or the thrift stores Hannah went to with me. I got dresses for me and Lucy, shorts, a purse and all kinds of other things. There’s more details in the episode so give it a full listen! And I got off track with my GLP1 and ate too much sugar all week, so I feel like I’ve been run over by a truck. But I’m cleansing and recuperating this week, so I’ll be back to feeling better real soon. Even though I did for a few days, I want to make sure you don’t forget Amble. They’re helping me on my weight loss journey and vacation aside, I’ve lost 80 pounds! Sign up and join the journey at joinamble.com.  Listen, Honey! Is produced by Jason Falls at Falls+Partners. Listen, Honey! We’re at The Bulls, Bands and Barrels Tour with CEO Hunter Price

Listen, Honey! Y’all saw on social media back on Valentine’s Day weekend I was at the Bulls, Bands and Barrels event in Lexington, Kentucky, watching both western sports like bull riding and barrel racing, and amazing live music (Dylan Gossett and Tyler Nance were at this one). I’d been to a previous stop of the BBB tour in Huntington, West Virginia because my buddies in The Creekers were playing there. Well, while I was in Lexington at AllTech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park, I sat down with Bulls, Bands and Barrels founder and CEO Hunter Price. Listen, honey! Y’all know me sitting across from some corporate CEO doesn’t sound like much fun, but Hunter is nothing like the corporate executive stereotype, other than he runs a good business. Let me tell you, honey … Hunter Price is my people. Y’all are going to love him and this episode of the podcast. Bulls, Bands and Barrels is a family-friendly, fun traveling rodeo and western sports competition with added entertainment with some of the best country, western and bluegrass bands to boot. They’ve done events with everyone from Jelly Roll to Ella Langley to, of course, The Creekers. Dylan and I took Lucy and that girl is ready to ride a bull! Hunter told me about how the tour and event series was started, how the competition works, all the places they’ve been (and plan to be). We talked about camping and cooking and coffee and tea. We also talked about KOA again. (Hello?!? Sponsorship?!?!) The only bad mark for Hunter was he didn’t know what a pop was and says that all pops are Cokes which is just wrong. Period.  He also told us that Nace, one of his camera men, was recently hooked by a bull in the ring. And we have the footage of it in the episode! You’ll be able to tell that I could have sat there and talked to Hunter all night. You’d never know he was a big-shot CEO of a big company.  Y’all know I’ve lost 80 pounds, so don’t forget Amble, y’all. They’re helping me on my weight loss journey and y’all know I’ve lost a bunch of weight, right? Sign up and join the journey at joinamble.com.  And we have to give Bulls, Bands and Barrels a big shout out. Not only did they give us time with Hunter for the episode, but as you’ll see when you watch, they provided the set and the production team to record this one. (And one of the camera guys was Nace – the one who got hooked by a bull and lived to tell us about it.)  So thanks to them for a big to-do for little ole me.  Listen, Honey! Listen, Honey! I’ve been busy and stressed and Lucy has been sick!

Listen, Honey! It’s far too long to have waited without a good catch up episode so we’re back at the house this week. But don’t worry! I’ve been recording some fun interviews for the podcast the last two weeks, so all this busy is going to amount to something good. I told y’all last time that I was hoping for a quiet snuggle-time Valentine’s Day (which is mine and Dylan’s anniversary) with my Cheesecake Factory while Lucy slept. Well, it all happened the way I’d hoped.  BUT … We woke up the next day and Lucy was runnin’ a fever. We’ll catch up with that on the episode.  But I was able to go to the  Bulls, Bands and Barrels event and interview their CEO Hunter Price and rodeo star Wyatt Riddle. Both of those episodes are coming soon and wound up being way funnier and fun than I thought they might be, so look out for those! I’m also stressed that I’ve got a beach trip coming up and haven’t planned enough. I also figured out this week I can’t bake a cake when I’m wound up about all this other stuff.  And I’m trying real hard not to jump back on the point that I need a camper. I have come to the realization, though that I don’t need it right now. But on June 13 I’m heading to Wise, Va., for the Kentucky-Virginia District Fair. Then I’ll be at the Master Musicians Festival in Somerset, Ky., in July. And then in October, I’ll be in Pikeville, Ky., for the Mountain Grrl Experience. So this camper situation is going to have to fix itself soon. You probably already know that I asked y’all to tell me some gossip or ask questions before I recorded this episode, so I get into your contributions toward the end, here. But I do thank you for watching and listening and sending in your stories and questions. I do love a good catch up episode. So here’s one! Oh, and don’t forget to Amble. Listen, Honey! LilyLouTay (Hannah Taylor) and I cooked up a great episode!

Listen, Honey! One of my online and offline besties Hannah Taylor drove eight hours from South Georgia to join me in Nashville to record an episode of the podcast. You may know her as @lilyloutay, the New York Times bestselling author of Measure With Your Heart, an amazing cookbook that makes her DE-licious Southern recipes part of your recipe archive, too.  Y’all?! My girl was on The Today Show for this book! She’s famous! Hannah lives in a lake house with her husband James (yes, James Taylor, but not that James Taylor) and her three children, plus a zoo’s worth of animals. She’s as laid back and even keel as a person can be so I wanted her to share that vibe with all of y’all. We talked about cooking and recipes, of course, but we also went deep into camping, children, family travel, hurricanes, home birth and a lot more. Hannah gets a little emotional talking about her husband and her kids, so we had a moment or two during the episode. Listening to her talk about him just made us both well up inside. But I know you’ll appreciate those moments as much as the ones where we laughed about everything from mayonnaise to vasectomies.  This was such a fun conversation and I know you’ll come away from this loving Hannah as much as I do. This was the last of our first round of Nashville interviews and I can’t wait to go back.  And don’t forget  Amble. Listen, Honey! We’re back at the house, but I want a camper!

Listen, Honey! We’re back at the house for another catch-up episode of the podcast. Snowmageddon is over (can I get an “Amen!’) and we’re thawing out. We had one day that got into the 60s this week and, honey, I am ready for summer NOW! All that anticipation got me looking at my calendar and y’all have been inviting me to some events. June 13 I’m heading to Wise, Va., for the Kentucky-Virginia District Fair. July 17-18 I’ll be at the Master Musicians Festival in Somerset, Ky. And then in October, I can’t wait to go to Pikeville, Ky., for the Mountain Grrl Experience.  Now all that thinking about events and travel has me hyper-fixated. Honey, I want a camper. Let me just tell you this, honey: I’m gettin’ a damn camper. I have to have one. I hate staying at AirBnBs … y’all know I prefer KOA Campgrounds … but I just need a camper.  If I had one, we could stay at the campground this coming weekend at the Bulls, Bands and Barrells event at the Kentucky Horse Park I’ll be going to in Lexington. (I’ll be recording an episode there for the podcast, too, so stay tuned.)  This coming weekend (when I’m recording) will be Valentine’s Day and that’s mine and Dylan’s anniversary, too. We’re doing an AIrBnB Friday night since we’re going up for the Bulls, Bands and Barrels event. If we had the camper, though, we could stay at the Horsepark campground.  I also want a puppy for Lucy, but with campers and puppies and Dylan’s Hummer he wants, we’re just going to give it all to the Lord. Another thing I talk about on this episode is that when we get back from the weekend and shopping and such, I have got to get back on track with my GLP-1 journey. I’ve got a beach trip planned. Now, me and Dylan have been getting it together. We’re doing to the gym together now which, praise God for Momma keeping Lucy a couple days a week so we can. It’s a blessing to have some time with just Dylan but I’m sore as all get out. Leg day wasn’t good to me this week! But I’m getting reset with my Bluegrass Precision Wellness supplements and plan. You should definitely check them out if you’re looking for help on your journey.  I”m going to get back on track because I’m going to have a fun summer. And, by gawd, Momma wants a camper. If you want me to help promote an event or something that will help pay for it, just email me! (lifeofkatieann - @ - gmail - dot - com).  I love yoins. Oh, and don’t forget to Amble. Listen, Honey! Andi Marie Tillman is a character. And brings characters with her, too.

Listen, Honey! The second of our recent Nashville episodes is live today and honey, we’re visiting with the queen of Southern characters, actor and comedian Andi Marie Tillman. If you don’t follow her on TikTok, we’ll I’m not sure what rock you’re livin’ under, but it’s heavy, honey. We even had a little ad-lib gossip session during the episode just for y’all. It was so much fun! Andi Marie does a lot of short-form character skits on the social media channels, but provides her fans and followers with longer form skits and hilarious routines on her Patreon. She grew up in East Tennessee, not too far from my neck of the woods. She calls Nashville home now. I’m so glad she was able to come with her fabulous self, dressed to the nines, to record this episode. It was another one that kept everyone laughing while we were recording it, much like the Danae Hayes episode. So enjoy this one, Honey! We sure did. And don’t forget  Amble. Listen, Honey! We are at The House! For the Podcast and Snowmagedon

Listen, Honey! We are at the house for this episode. I’m telling y’all, I’ve done set up a home studio so we can do more podcast episodes. Now, I don’t know what I’m doing, so these first few from my new home studio aren’t going to win any awards for movie making, but honey, we’re going to do some more catching up, more often now. The worst part was I was trying to set all this up with a day or two left before Kentucky got struck by Snowmagedon 2026. Oh, we got snowed in, but it wasn’t no 14-inches like they were calling for. Still, I had to go back and forth to Best Buy an hour away as the weather was threatening to start. (They’re the closest store where I can get cords and equipment and such.) We made it back in time to get snowed in which about drove me crazy. Isn’t that how it always is? Two or three days and cabin fever sets in.  But we made it out, got our crispy Coke Zero and McDonalds and survived.  I’m so excited the Danae Hays episode is out there and honey, we’ve got some more doozies from our Nashville trip coming up, too. Make sure you are subscribed to the podcast on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts and wherever else you can so you don’t miss ‘em. We’ve got Andi Marie Tillman and Hannah Taylor coming up and both of those conversations were so much fun.  I’m going to do my best to get you weekly episodes now that I can film these shorter, solo ones at home. I’m sure my producer is thrilled to have twice the work, right Jason?  I love yoins. Oh, and don’t forget to Amble. Listen, Honey! Danae Hays and I Talk Everything From Trucks to T*tties and Snake Churches to Scripture

Listen, Honey! I told you all I had some good episodes coming for you from our visit to Nashville recently. Well, strap yourself in for the first of them because in this episode of Listen, Honey! I go deep with the hysterically funny Danae Hays.  She is a side-splitting comedian who is going out on tour again this year. She’s playing the Ryman Auditorium in March and I may have to reschedule my birthday beach vacation to go. Why? Because if this conversation was any judge, I’m going to have to see how many people will actually pee themselves in Ryman pews listening to her stories. Danae and I talked about everything from trucks to titties and snake churches to scripture. She just recently had a bad experience with mold in a rental home and reconnected with her mom and sister after not speaking to them for seven years. SEVEN YEARS, y’all!  So we dug into a lot more than just funny stories. Still, Danae brings a sense of humor to everything so even the reality of life is funny coming from her. She also brings a smile everyone’s face which is why you’re going to love this episode.  And if you listen close enough, you can again hear Landon Mauk (@landon.mauk) and Riley Mitchell (@rileygmitchell) in the background. I’m so excited for them. Their new podcast cracked the Apple Top 100 right out of the gate and my episode there is coming soon. (We’ll make sure to share it on this YouTube channel. Don’t worry. You’ll see it.) It’s called Bloodline Banter (@bloodlinebanterofficial). But buckle up for this conversation with Danae Hays. You can find her, tickets to her shows and a lot more at danaehays.com. She’s on TikTok at @danaehays.  Don’t forget to Amble. They’re helping me on my weight loss journey and y’all know I’ve lost a bunch of weight, right? Listen, Honey! I Tore Nashville Up So Some Fun Episodes Are Comin’!

Listen, Honey! I have arrived, y’all! I recently spent several days in Nashville experiencing Music City for the first time. As y’all probably saw on TikTok and Instagram and other places, I was recording future episodes of Listen, Honey!, as well as one other surprise episode of a brand new podcast I’ll tell y’all about in a second. But first, let me tell you, I loved Nashville! Now, I don’t think I could live there. Too many streets. Too many cars. Too many lights. But y’all, I got to hang out with so many creative and fun people it just gave me all kinds of ideas and energy and inspiration. I can tell you one thing: I will be going back on the regular. So, I can’t wait for y’all to see the next few episodes of the podcast. We interviewed my pal Hannah Taylor (a/k/a @lilyloutay), Appalachian character goddess Andi Marie Tillman (@andimarie) and the hysterical Denae Hays (@denaehays). We laughed so hard we all probably pulled something, y’all. Those episodes are coming up in the next few weeks here. But I also hung with my besties Landon Mauk (@landon.mauk) and Riley Mitchell (@rileygmitchell) who had me as a guest on their brand new podcast (just announced last week and premiering later this month). It’s called Bloodline Banter (@bloodlinebanterofficial) and you have to go subscribe! My episode was fun, but those two are pieces of work and funny as all get out. It’s a must-watch. So check out this episode as I not only preview a tease out a little of what’s coming, but I talk about Nashville and you can even hear Landon and Riley asking me questions and stuff in the background. Oh, and I mentioned joining Amble. They’re helping me on my weight loss journey and y’all know I’ve lost a bunch of weight, right? Sign up and join the journey at joinamble.com.  Big shout out to The Cast Collective in Nashville for their studio and production team’s help pulling all this together. They produce Bloodline Banter and are now my Nashville home away from home for the podcast. Listen, Honey! Tanner Horton from The Creekers is in the house!

Listen, Honey! Y’all know one of my favorite things this past year was going to hear my buddies The Creekers play live! If you don’t know, The Creekers are a country and bluegrass band from just over the hill in Leslie County, Kentucky. They blew up this summer on TikTok when their song “Tennessee” took off as a viral sound clip. And it led them all the way to a big-time record deal with Warner Records. I met Tanner Horton, Allen Hacker, Ashton and Jagger Bowling, Scott Sutton and the fabulous Anna Blanton first at Manchester Music Hall in Lexington, but then followed them around to a half dozen or so shows. Hell, they even came and played for my Daddy at his house. Needless to say, they’re the biggest thing to come out of Eastern Kentucky since coal, and I’m here for it. I talked Tanner Horton, one of the band’s founders, songwriters, singers and guitar pickers, to join me for an episode of the podcast the day he and the band were playing two shows at The Burl, a legendary live music joint in Lexington, Kentucky, back in late December.  And listen honey! We talked about everything! The band, the record deal, our favorite Appalachian artists, guitars, mules, dogs, Lynyrd Skynyrd, building fences, planting taters, our mutual fear of flying, soup beans versus chicken dumplings. Y’all are going to come out on the other side of this episode in overalls and needin’ a bath.  The Creekers may have blown up in 2025, but you just wait for 2026. That first big record with Warner Records is due to come out and Tanner told me they won’t be doing many shows in Kentucky because they’re basically going to be touring everywhere else. I can’t wait to see how big they get and how much they accomplish. I’m so proud of my hillbilly besties. Give this a listen. Y’all will love it as much as I love y’all! Listen, Honey! Listen, Honey! When Appalachian Royalty Stops By, We Talk, Now!

Listen, Honey! There’s no person closer to Appalachian Royalty these days than author Silas House. From his award-winning novels to writing Grammy-nominated music video screenplays, he stands out as one of the more accomplished intellectuals from our neck of the woods. Honestly, y’all, when he said he’d join me for the podcast, I had to have a sit down. Y’all don’t know how exciting this was. Silas was the Poet Lauret of Kentucky from 2023-2025. He was recently named Appalachian of the Year in a poll conducted by the folks at the Appodlachia podcast.  We talked about his novels, (Clay’s Quilt, A Parchment of Leaves, The Coal Tattoo … there’s seven of them, honey.) Lark Ascending was a Booklist Editor’s Choice and won the 2023 Book Price and 2023 Nautilus Book Award. His newest books are a poetry collection called All These Ghosts and a murder-mystery called Dead Man Blues he’s released under the pseudonym S.D. House. All that is to say, I was a little intimidated to talk to him, but that soon fell away. We’re just two good ole mountain folks talkin’ about mommas and corn bread and bookstores and writing.  You can find all of Silas’s work and links at silas-house.com. Listen, Honey! Listen, Honey! The Spirit of Christmas

Listen, Honey! It’s Christmas time and there’s no time of the year that’s more fun and festive, but also more busy and stressful. Instead of having a guest this episode, I thought I’d just share some things I’m thinking about as the holidays get closer. I touch on everything from my favorite Christmas music to telling my parents if they’re buying toys for my daughter, they’d better be intending on keeping them at their house! I’ve got some good shop local recommendations for y’all close by, but even if you’re not, please shop local for the holidays, y’all. Those local businesses need you a lot more than the big chain stores do.  I hope you and your family have the most amazing Christmas, spend time with each other and celebrating the Lord, or whatever it is that you celebrate.  I love youins. Listen, Honey! When Three Strong Mountain Women Get Together … We Talk!

Listen, Honey! When you put three strong mountain women who like to talk in the same room with microphones, you get a podcast episode that never ends. I sit down this week with two women who are near and dear to my heart, y’all. Crystal Booth, who is @missfizz_ on TikTok, and Brandis Bradley, who is @makeupartistatlaw there, came by the Listen, Honey! Studio to talk about everything. And I mean Every. Thing. Before I try to remember all the things we covered, let me brag on my girls for a minute. Crystal is a licensed esthetician and founder of Fizz Facial Bar, which is a multi-million dollar company with locations in five states. Brandis went from being a lawyer to empowering women of all shapes and sizes on QVC with her Dress Out Loud fashion advice. Both of them have big followings online and are social media influencers, too.  But none of that matters when we get in a room together because we’re all three proud Eastern Kentucky women.  Now, what did we talk about. Let’s see: Parenting and the anxiety that goes with it Success as working women Giving each other support as mothers, friends and professionals Getting out of the holler and experiencing the world Relationships and marriage The importance of self-care Skin-care, Botox, face lifts and other plastic surgery Managing money, both personally and professionally Credit card debt and how banks lured college students into it years ago Breast reduction and enhancement Weight loss and wellness journeys Coping with grief Richard Marx and Daisy Fuentez  I told you … Every. Thing. On a more serious note, toward the end of the conversation, Brandis bravely shared her own story of suicidal thoughts and how Crystal helped her work through them. For anyone who might be having those types of thoughts, please talk to someone. You can dial 9-8-8 free of charge to be connected to someone right away. To say the least, this episode was an emotional roller coaster, but so full of amazing stories, advice, laughter and more. I’m so glad to share Crystal and Brandis with y’all.  Here’s some links to the people, places and things we mentioned in the show: Fizz Skincare Fizz Facial Bar <a href="https://www.qvc.com/c/fashion/brandis-dress-out-loud/-/lglt-1cq3oci/c.html?qq=mh&cid=brandisdr

Listen, Honey! Singer-Songwriter Nicholas Jamerson opens up about everything!

Listen, Honey! We might be just three episodes in here on the podcast, but this special Thanksgiving week episode is something special. I sit down with my good friend Nicholas Jamerson, the lead singer of Sundy Best and successful solo artist who has become the voice of a generation for mountain folk.  His new album The Narrow Way is amazing. He told us about the long process to make it and talked about how it was a dark journey but a catharsis in dealing with loss, adulthood … just life.  But we had just a good conversation about everything from why Sundy Best faded out of the limelight to the dangers of social media. And from having children to the good grace of God. And we had some fun sharing made-up mountain words and phrases we both have from growing up in Eastern Kentucky. This was so much fun and exactly what I wanted this podcast to be about: Introducing special people like Nicholas Jamerson to all of you to show you how special they are. And I have a feeling no one has ever seen an interview with Nicholas quite like this one. We could have gone on and on for hours. This was so much fun! Please drop your feedback in the comments. Tell me what you think of the show and who else I should be talking to here. As I’ve said a couple of times, I don’t know what I’m doing but we’re going to figure it out together. Listen, Honey! Let me tell you about my trip to the Smoky Mountains

Listen, honey! This weekend in the Smoky Mountains was anything but cozy – we shopped ‘til we dropped, hit up Dollywood, ate way too much good food, and packed in all the family time we could. In this episode, I catch y’all up on the trip, chat about my favorite moments and talk about how I’m somehow already over Halloween and ready for Christmas. Some more of what you’ll hear: We went to Dollywood … OMG?!? Pumpkins everywhere! Dolly does it up right. And then, honey … we need to talk about Halloween. So I do. And then I need to Deck the Halls, y’all! Oh, and you need to listen to Marcus King’s Mood Swings. I also talk about Nicholas Jamerson’s new album. Gotta support my mountain artists! I answered a bunch of your questions from my Instagram story I posted on the way to the studio, too! I’m still not 100 percent comfortable with doing the podcast, especially the solo episodes, so I sure hope you like it. And I’m sure I’ll get more comfortable after I get a few more out there. Regardless, I’m excited to share these with ya. Please let me know in the comments what you think and maybe ask me things you want me to talk about in a future episode.  Here’s some links to the people, places and things we mentioned in the show: KOA Campground Dollywood Marcus King’s Mood Swings on Spotify Nicholas Jamerson’s Narrow Way on Spotify Bluegrass Precision Wellness Shop That last link is important, Honey! Listen, Honey! We’re talking about health and wellness with Dr. Curtis Koons

On the inaugural episode of Listen, Honey!, I sit down with my friend, Curtis Koons, a triple board-certified medical provider from Kentucky, to talk about his incredible journey – from growing up in the holler to graduating medical school at the University of Kentucky. Curtis shares what it was like leaving home at a young age, building his career in medicine and what it means to come full-circle while serving his Appalachian community today.  Curtis is an anesthesiologist and owns and operates Bluegrass Precision Wellness on top of being a practicing doctor. They are one of my partners and sponsors and I love everything they do to help us get smarter and better about health and wellness.  Bluegrass Precision wellness opened in Pikeville, Ky., in 2023 and expanded to Lexington this summer. We even talked about how we met and the partnership came about during the episode.  In addition to his journey, Curtis talks about the approach Bluegrass Precision Wellness takes to helping patients lose weight and live healthier, including the use of medications like Mounjaro.   We both talk about our own wellness routines, the importance of supplements, and more ideas to help inspire your own healthier living. Both of our health journeys were influenced when we separately discovered we have the Alzheimer’s gene.  And then Curtis turned the table and asked me questions about how I built my TikTok and social media presence. So we talked a little about him, me and everything else.  We finished off talking about how amazing Appalachian culture and Eastern Kentucky really are. There’s so much talent here, from musicians (like The Creekers) to doctors like Curtis and all those mountain mamas making that delicious mountain food.   Listen, Honey! This was so much fun. I knew Curtis would be a great first guest to introduce you to the kinds of conversations we’ll have and how helpful they can be to all of you! I’m so excited for this first episode.
