ArtsBooksCelebrity booksCo-hosted banterStandalone reviewsIrreverent criticismLong episodesCompleted series

A podcast about books written by celebrities. Each episode we will review works of fiction written by celebrities such as Marlon Brando, Britney Spears and other titans of literature. We will review the stories, plots and characters, discuss the reasons for writing these books and the context they were written in

Why listen

Celebrity Book Club is a funny, niche book podcast where Adam Sadler and Helen read fiction written by celebrities and try to make sense of the plots, reputations, and celebrity backstories around them. The appeal is the contrast between serious book-club discussion and deeply odd source material, from Marlon Brando pirate fiction to Kardashian family novels and Fabio romance. It is a good fit for listeners who like literary criticism with gossip, jokes, and a low-stakes sense of disbelief.

Dances and Dreams on Diamond Street

Episode 10 - The Finale!! This months book is Dances and Dreams on Diamond Street written by Craig Revel Horwood. This is the book that started off the whole podcast project. One cold dark wintery evening whilst stood in Sainsburys I read the blurb to this book and realised that 'holy shit! There must be thousands of books written by celebrities that are bat shit crazy!!' and here we are. 10 Episodes later and 10 terrible books read and series 1 has drawn to a close. We hope to come back with a series 2 but in the meantime will be doing one off specials. We hope you enjoy this final episode!

Shopgirl

Hello!! On this months episode we discuss the novel Shopgirl written by Steve Martin. I (Adam) was hesistant to read this book for several reasons. Firstly, Steve Martin is a childhood hero of mine I struggled to believed he would write a bad book. Secondly, as Steve Martin is an accomplished author, playwrite, actor and musician I thought this book would be too good and therefore would be a funny one for us a review and there myself and Helen would have to do some actual work and be proper reviewers of books. Enjoy!!

Viking

Wenches on benches! It is time for this month's podcast episode!  This month's epsiode is Viking written by Fabio. We discuss the rampant sexism and sex scenes. As well as the odd time travel element to this novel that seemingly has little to no pay off except for Fabio taking credit for introducing ancient Vikings to the concept of a chimney. We take a look at the personal life of Fabio as well as discuss the time he killed a Goose with his face and when he released an album of strange love ballards. Enjoy!

Fan Tan

We discuss Fan Tan a book that was surprisingly published 2005 (despite the rampant racism) and was written by Marlon Brando and Donald Cammell. Amazon describes the book as - When Annie gets out of prison, she thanks him with an offer of inconceivable wealth if he will join her in the biggest act of piracy of her career. Madame Lai is a seductive and powerful ally, but Annie is about to discover that she can be an even more powerful-and dangerous-enemy.-With his longtime collaborator, screenwriter and director Donald Cammell, Brando worked on this story for years. The result is a rollicking, swashbuckling delectable romp of a novel - the last surprise from an ever-surprising legend. We have some alternative thoughts on this novel
