Today’s ABCA Podcast guest is one of the baseball minds behind one of the most respected player development turnarounds in modern Major League Baseball. Kyle Stark spent years helping shape the Pittsburgh Pirates (07’-19’) organization, serving as Director of Player Development before rising to Assistant General Manager and Vice President/Assistant GM. During that stretch, he played a major role in rebuilding the Pirates’ farm system and helping guide the club back into postseason contention in the mid-2010s. Before his time in Pittsburgh, Stark also worked in baseball operations with the Cleveland Indians (04’-07’), building a reputation as a thoughtful leader with a deep understanding of organizational development, culture, and talent growth. But what makes Stark’s perspective unique is that his work extends far beyond baseball. Since leaving the Pirates organization, Stark’s transitioned into leadership coaching and consulting, helping teams, businesses, and organizations build stronger cultures, improve communication, and maximize performance with his company Stark Contrast. From player development and front office strategy to leadership and culture-building, this conversation is packed with insight for coaches, athletes, executives, and anyone interested in building winning organizations. Next up on the ABCA Podcast is Driveline Director of Youth Baseball and the Driveline Academy, Deven Morgan. At Driveline Academy Morgan integrates individual skill development, nutrition guidance, and physical therapy. The intention of Driveline is to address what Morgan has seen in the past 15 years. Players who were all too often underdeveloped on the fundamental skills that would help them stay competitive in the game as they transitioned from youth to High School. Anything that Morgan has done in terms of developing programs and systems to improve youth baseball development has been done with an intention to positively impact all the players in the organization, including his own. Morgan has been an instrumental part of the ABCA with his involvement on the Youth and Travel Committees, and the Youth Summit. Morgan is a published author, publishing Skills that Scale, a youth baseball training manual. We had a lot to cover since we last recorded in 2020, so this will be a 2-part episode. This is part II of our conversation. We dive deeper into what the ABCA Youth and Travel Committees are trying to get accomplished to help retention and health of amateur baseball players. Next up on the ABCA Podcast is Deven Morgan, Director of Youth Baseball and the Driveline Academy at Driveline Baseball. At Driveline Academy, Morgan leads a comprehensive approach to player development—integrating skill development, nutrition, and physical therapy—with the goal of building complete athletes from a young age. His work is driven by what he’s observed over the past 15 years: too many players reaching high school without the foundational skills needed to stay competitive. Morgan has built systems and programs designed to scale development across entire organizations, ensuring that every player—not just a select few—has the opportunity to improve. That mission is personal, too. Morgan is living it daily, as his son Danny has trained at Driveline since age 9 and is now navigating the college recruiting process at 17. A published author of Skills That Scale, Morgan has also been heavily involved with the ABCA through the Youth & Travel Committees and the Youth Summit, helping shape the future of youth baseball nationwide. With so much to cover since his last appearance in 2020, this is Part I of a two-part series, offering an in-depth look at youth player development, long-term planning, and building systems that actually work. Safe travels to all the coaches headed to Columbus this week! The ABCA is excited to welcome everyone for the 82nd annual ABCA Convention. Stay tuned as the Convention Preview Episode drops this Wednesday, January 7th to help make your trip and on-site experience as smooth as possible! Kicking off convention week on the ABCA Podcast is Lyndon Coleman, head coach at Pasco-Hernando State College and the 2025 ABCA/ATEC NJCAA Division II Coach of the Year. Coleman led the Bobcats to their first-ever NJCAA National Championship this past spring, capping a remarkable rise since taking over as head coach in 2019. This March, he was also named Athletic Director, following in the footsteps of PHSC legend Steve Winterling—adding another chapter to a career deeply rooted in the program as a former player, assistant coach, and now leader. Under Coleman’s leadership, PHSC owns a 219-125-1 overall record, including 126-75 as head coach. He earned his 100th career win in just his third full season (March 7, 2022) and has guided the Bobcats to five NJCAA DII Region 8 titles and five trips to the NJCAA DII Southeast District 10 Tournament in North Carolina. Despite spending the first six years without a conference affiliation, Coleman still built a national contender. When PHSC joined the Sun-Lakes Conference, the Bobcats immediately won the regular season title. In Coleman’s first season as head coach, PHSC also finished third at the NJCAA DII World Series in Enid, Oklahoma—earning him NJCAA and ABCA Southeast District Coach of the Year honors. In this episode, Coach Coleman breaks down program building, championship culture, leadership growth, and the lessons learned along the journey to a national title.

This week on the ABCA Podcast, we’re joined by Jordan Schwellenbach, assistant coach at LSU Shreveport and the 2025 ABCA/Soldier Sports NAIA Assistant Coach of the Year. In his first season with the Pilots, Schwellenbach served as Recruiting Coordinator and Pitching Coach, helping steer LSUS to one of the greatest accomplishments in college baseball history — a perfect 59-0 season and the program’s first NAIA National Championship. Under his direction, the Pilots’ pitching staff delivered video-game numbers and shattered program and national records: 2.38 ERA (No. 1 nationally) .192 opponent batting average (No. 1 nationally) 0.98 WHIP (No. 1 nationally) Schwellenbach’s ability to develop arms, prepare game-ready plans, and instill mound presence was a key ingredient in LSUS’s undefeated run. Before arriving in Shreveport, he spent seven seasons at Central Methodist (Mo.), helping the Eagles to seven straight Opening Round appearances and a 2021 national runner-up finish. He previously spent three seasons at Saginaw Valley State University, continuing to refine his craft and build a reputation as an elite pitching mind. Kicking off our 2026 ABCA Hall of Fame Class interviews is Florida Atlantic University head coach and ABCA First Vice President, John McCormack. McCormack completed his 17th year at Florida Atlantic University as head coach in 2025, and 35th season with the program. He had previously served 11 years as associate head coach and seven years as an assistant coach, beginning in 1991. The Owls finished 37-21 overall and fourth in league play in their second year as a member of the American Athletic Conference. Coach Mac has led FAU to four regular season conference championships (C-USA: 2016 & 2019, SBC: 2010 & 2012) and one postseason conference championship (SBC: 2013). The Owls have qualified for NCAA Regionals six times (2010, '13, '15, '16, '18, '19) in the McCormack era. Since 2009, 13 Owls have earned All-American honors, and 21 have earned All-Region honors and a total of 105 FAU players that McCormack has recruited or coached at FAU have continued their professional careers. Additionally, 33 of the 36 draftees were not drafted out of high school, continuing McCormack’s outstanding track record of developing players after they come to Boca Raton. A big part of FAU’s success has been that passion for the Boca Raton area and the university, allowing the program to attract some of the best players in Florida. FAU’s baseball program has been built around the premise that McCormack would find athletes with the desire to win, the coaching staff would develop talent and the players would become better.
