About this episode
Send us a text Lisa is joined by Bethany Netsova who shares why the BMI is BS, the dangers of diet culture, fat phobia in the society at large and in the medical establishment, bullying both as a kid and as a fat woman trying to workout at numerous gyms, and her incredible TikTok page. In Bethany's own words: I never intended to become a fat positive creator on TikTok, but through my own journey to radical self love and acceptance I realized I could love and supports others in similar bodies and journeys. Growing up fat, I never felt like I was allowed to love myself. It wasn’t until I had a kid of my own that I realized if I wanted them to feel comfortable in their own skin and love themselves regardless of what the world tells them, they needed to see that in action and it had to start with me. My TikTok videos features stories from my past of growing up fat, experiences at the gym, and current issues that I still experience as a fat person. My hope is that others can see themselves in my stories and know they aren’t alone, while educating those who haven’t experienced fat phobia and show them what it’s like to be a fat person living in today’s society.
