AOFNL The Moments Series Episode 2: The Sharjah Chronicles - a last ball 6 and an 87 allout A match that was lost was turned around by a master-class culminating in a last ball 6. And then another match that was for all practical purposes lost turned around by a magical spell in the field - both bowling and fielding. In this episode we touch upon two games - The final of the first Austral-Asia cup that ended with Miandad hoisting a Chetan Sharma full toss to snatch a very famous last ball win. A game that set the tone for years to come for games between India and Pakistan especially in Sharjah. And the first game of the 1985 Rothman's cup when the newly crowned WCC champions were rolled for a measly 125 and then fought back to bowl Pakistan out for 87 through a collecting bowling and fielding effort. AOFNL The Moments Series Episode 1: The Multan Declaration Never before or since has a declaration by an Indian captain led to so much discussion, debate, hand wringing and in many cases anguish. Of course this is about the declaration by Rahul Dravid on March 29 2004 at Multan. A Sehwag 300 (the first by an Indian) had powered India to a magnificent 675 and set the stage for pushing Pakistan hard in the first test of the series. In addition to the Sehwag masterclass (and was it one) there was some wonderful batting by Sachin, Yuvraj, Inzi, Yousuf and a brilliant 6-fer by Anil Kumble on that road of a pitch as well some excellent bowling by Irfan Pathan. The same test match that also saw the entire of Saqlain Mushtaq's wonderful career. But even more than 21 years since that game, references to the game would almost surely only focus on a declaration made with about an hour to go on second day of the game. Was the Indian skipper on the day right in making that call ? A question that continues to unite and divide cricket fans all over the country. We from the AOFNL team had a wonderful time reliving that moment and once again were left with really no answer to that question. Take a listen and let us know what you think. AOFNL Episode 32 India conjure up a brilliant victory on a pulsating 5th day at the Oval to square the series at 2 apiece. A performance for the ages with everyone in the team contributing in some way or the other. In 1971 it was the brilliance of Bhagwat Chandrasekhar that brought us a series win. In 2021 it was Shardul Thakur who propelled us to a wonderful victory as we took a 2-1 lead in that series. In 2025, a young team in transition led by a first time captain and missing their main bowler put on a performance for the ages to valiantly square the series. What are we talking about in this episode ? - The key moments of the final day of the 5th test - The series as a whole - Looking ahead - what is head for us Take a listen and let us know what you think. #IndiaEnglandSeries #andersontendulkartrophy Also available on Apple Podcast and Spotify. https://all-out-for-no-loss.captivate.fm/episode/the-triumph-in-south-london

AOFNL Episode 31 Team India cracks the Edgbaston Code Team India pulled off a magnificent victory over the Bazballers at Edgbaston and have squared the series 1-1 with 3 to go. After the rather tough loss at Headingly and the absence of the talismanic Bumrah, the expections were rather low. And how well did the team do ! The batting kicked in with the skipper showing the way with a couple of magnificent performances tallying 430 runs in the game. The young bowling seam group came good with some outstanding performances. Most certainly flipped the script and got everyone's attention. What are we talking about in this episode ? AOFNL Episode 29 The Miss at Headingly This is going live on the 42nd anniversary of one of the biggest days in Indian Cricket ... We just saw a cracking test where there was frenetic action on all five days - some wonderful batting from both sides, some exceptional spells of bowling from the best bowler in the world, some old fashioned control and calm from the world's best with the bat and confirmation that good things will happen if you do not give up and hang in there What are we talking about in this episode ? - Where did India go wrong in this game ? - What did England do right ? - What changes are we likely to see in the next game Take a listen and let us know what you think. #INDvsEng #Headingly #Pant #Gill #Duckett #Root Participants: Vasant Kumar Ramakrishnan G Iyer Anand Kumar Sankaran Vijaykumar Balasubramanian Also available on Apple Podcast and Spotify. https://all-out-for-no-loss.captivate.fm/episode/headingly-an-opportunity-lost

AOFNL Episode 28 Just as tempting as it was, we are not talking about something that happened 32 years ago to this day when world witnessed (should I say read about) the greatest (still the case) ODI inning by an Indian batter. A preview of the Headingly Test and the palindrome at Lords The 2025 India in England series for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy (or is it Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy) will start on June 20 with the first skirmish at the Headingly cricket ground. A new look and relatively inexperienced Indian team takes on an English team whose bowling attack seems somewhat lacking in experience as well. Questions Will India give Sai Sudharsan his debut and have him bat at 3 ? Or would it be Easwaran ? How will Karun Nair do on his much awaited return to interational cricket ? Will we see a flat track more suited to the English Bazball model of play that also will defang India's bowling spearhead ? What are we talking about in this episode ? Before jumping into the England-India series we do a little review of the WTC final where the South Africans channeled Shakira with "This time for Africa" with a wonderful heist at Lords. And just like that 27 years of waiting including several moments of agony were washed away, a little like how RCB did so a couple of weeks ago. We then delve into the Headingly test including a short detour to the last two tests in Headingly that featured these teams - one in 2021 and one in 2002, both of which ended with teams winning by an innings and some. Incidentally these two teams have faced off only twice at Headingly since the turn of the century - the Wall was unbreakable in one and the Lord could not single handedly carry the team in the other. We talk about the various likely combinations of the two teams, essentially on those slots that are not set in stone as yet. And also dwell on the likely nature of the playing surface and its impact on the selections. England has since announced their playing XI. Take a listen and let us know what you think. #INDvsEng #Headingly #Tendulkar #JimmyAnderson #KapilDev #Markram #WTC Participants: Vasant Kumar Vijaykumar Balasubramanian Ramakrishnan G Iyer Anand Kumar Sankaran

All Out 4 No Loss - Episode 23 The IPL 2025 has started with an upset with RCB thrashing the Kolkata Knight Riders in the opener. Krunal Pandya's very smart bowling turned the game on its head as he first slowed down KKR down and then took out their middle order. And then Phil Salt just continued from where he left off to set the stage for Kohli to finish the same. The big takeaways - (a) Hazlewood is fit and bowling as well as ever (b) Krunal is very effective and (c) the RCB batting is looking very scary. In this episode we preview 6 games namely games 2 through 7 Rajasthan Royals v Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad Mumbai Indians v Chennai Super Kings in Chennai Lucknow Super Giants vs Delhi Capitals at Vizag Punjab Kings v Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad Kolkata Knight Rider v Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati Lucknow Super Giants v Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad #IPL #IPL2025 #BCCI #ChennaiSuperKings #DelhiCapitals #GujaratTitans #KolkataKnightRiders #LucknowSuperGiants #MumbaiIndians #PunjabKings #RajasthanRoyals #RoyalChallengersBengaluru #SunrisersHyderabad Participants: Vasant Kumar Anand Kumar Sankaran Ramakrishnan G Iyer Vijaykumar Balasubramanian Also available on Apple Podcast and Spotify. https://all-out-for-no-loss.captivate.fm/episode/ipl2025-previews-matches-02-to-07.

All Out 4 No Loss - Episode 22 IPL 2025 - Previews: Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kolkata Knight Riders In the last of the team preview episodes for IPL 2025 we will take a look at the Chennai Super Kings, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and the Kolkata Knight Riders Chennai Super Kings continues to be the same old efficient squad to the point of being boring. They bat very deep and have a slew of two way players. The spin bowling attack is fearsome with two Chepauk specialists in Jadeja and Ashwin plus the precocious Noor Ahmed. The seam bowling group is workmanlike, but seems sufficient. The batting might just be a little thin. Should make it to the playoffs with this team if they can operate on potential Royal Challengers Bengaluru had a very big unboxing event where they introduced their players and Mr.Nags was at his inimitable best. As usual the team looks pretty decent on paper, but once again they might just be a tad short on the bowling. And once again they will need Virat to have a monster season to take them ahead. Playoffs might just be out of reach. They do have a surprise packet in the form of Jacob Bethell who might be the game changer for them. The Kolkata Knight Riders have done a pretty decent job with regards to retentions and the auctions. They could not keep Phil Salt, but managed to get Quinton De Kock as the replacement. They however did manage to retain their core. The only real question mark is the need to have Rahane because they needed an experienced captain. The balance of the team suggests that they should be a strong playoff contender. What also stands out is they have a backup for every position without really sacrificing much quality. The first game will be played on Saturday between KKR and RCB. Looking at the two teams, the over arching belief is that KKR might be a little too strong for RCB in the opener especially at the Eden Gardens. #IPL #IPL2025 #BCCI #ChennaiSuperKings #DelhiCapitals #GujaratTitans #KolkataKnightRiders #LucknowSuperGiants #MumbaiIndians #PunjabKings #RajasthanRoyals #RoyalChallengersBengaluru #SunrisersHyderabad Participants: Vasant Kumar Anand Kumar Sankaran Ramakrishnan G Iyer Vijaykumar Balasubramanian Also available on Apple Podcast and Spotify. https://all-out-for-no-loss.captivate.fm/episode/ipl2025-previews-csk-rcb-kkr

All Out 4 No Loss - Episode 21 IPL 2025 - Previews: Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians This is the second preview episode of the teams in the competition. In this conversation we will take a look at the Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians. The Delhi Capitals went through a major overhaul and appears to have put a squad that has a decent first XI, but will struggle substantially if there are injuries or drop-outs. The sentiment is that this is a 9 person team with 11 players. The Rajasthan Royals have probably regressed a lot - some poor retention choices, followed by an equally poor auction cycle. This team will probably struggle a lot and is totally dependent on special individual performances to get them through. SRH looks very intimidating with an absolutely brilliant top 5, the problems will start in games where they lose early wickets at the batting gets substantially weaker. For all practical purposes they are in the game as long as their top 5 are doing well. However we still believe that they have a reasonable chance to make the playoffs. MI is the team to beat and start as the title favorite. A brilliant bowling unit which is so good that they might not need Bumrah to bowl if the first half of an innings - essentially 40% of the back-end will be Bumrah. The batting line is fabulous with everyone looking in terrific touch. And then some wonderful new additions. #IPL #IPL2025 #BCCI #ChennaiSuperKings #DelhiCapitals #GujaratTitans #KolkataKnightRiders #LucknowSuperGiants #MumbaiIndians #PunjabKings #RajasthanRoyals #RoyalChallengersBengaluru #SunrisersHyderabad Participants: Vasant Kumar Anand Kumar Sankaran Ramakrishnan G Iyer Vijaykumar Balasubramanian Also available on Apple Podcast and Spotify. https://all-out-for-no-loss.captivate.fm/episode/ipl2025-previews-dc-rr-srh-mi

All Out 4 No Loss - Episode 20 IPL 2025 - Previews: Punjab Kings, Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans IPL returns with all the usual fanfare and this time around it is after a mega auctions which means all teams are looking different from the previous campaigns. In some cases the are significant differences in the makeup of the teams and in some cases teams have managed to stay the course with minimal changes. This is the first of a series of episodes where we will be previewing the teams in the competition. In this conversation we will take a look at the Punjab Kings, Lucknow Super Giants and the Gujarat Titans The Ponting era at the Punjab Kings has resulted in a move from a team that was loaded with big-hitters and a modest bowling attack to a unit where their bowling attack has become super-charged at the expense of some fire-power with the bat. The Lucknow Super Giants who are coached by another legend of the 2000 Australia team Justin Langer seem to have regressed a little bit in terms of their personnel and might just be too dependent on their overseas professionals. The balance seems a little questionable and their backup suite is a little weak. The Gujarat Titans did sign Buttler, but was that a really good move given that their top three while being very proper batters need some time to get going and that just might not be the ideal recipe if the pitches are similar to what we saw in the last IPL. #IPL #IPL2025 #BCCI #ChennaiSuperKings #DelhiCapitals #GujaratTitans #KolkataKnightRiders #LucknowSuperGiants #MumbaiIndians #PunjabKings #RajasthanRoyals #RoyalChallengersBengaluru #SunrisersHyderabad Participants: Vasant Kumar Anand Kumar Sankaran Also available on Apple Podcast and Spotify. https://all-out-for-no-loss.captivate.fm/episode/ipl2025-previews-pk-lsg-gt

The Champions Trophy: The Finals India handily regained the Champions Trophy with a relatively comfortable win over New Zealand on March 9 in Dubai. Once again the 4 spinners took over the game from the moment they came on and squeezed out any resistance from the New Zealand middle order. The late burst notwithstanding the total of 251 was below par and once Rohit set the platform with a brisk 76, it was all about playing sensibly to ensure that the New Zealand spinners did not wrest the game away. In this conversation we will take a look at the game and this India team in historical terms Did New Zealand miss the presence of another spinner in their team ? Is this the best ever ODI team from India ? Has Rohit become the best white captain we have ever had ? The Champions Trophy: Final Round Games and Semi-Final Preview Here come the semi-finals of the 2025 Champions Trophy. The same teams that played in the 2023 WC semi-finals have made it to the semi-finals of this tournament and done so in a convincing manner. India has been looking at its best with three very strong showings while New Zealand was very good until they got tripped up by a sublime show by the Indian spinners. South Africa is looking like a complete team as they won their two games that were played in very convincing style. The Australia fought back to win against England albeit easily and were looking in very good shape against the Afghans as well. Without doubt the four teams that played the best made it to the semi-finals. In this conversation we will take a look at the last 4 games of the league phase and will do a preview of the semi-finals During the chat we touch upon the following questions - Is India unstoppable ? Who will India pick in their semis after Varun gave them a good problem to have ? Can New Zealand return to their efficient best after a slip-up ? Will South Africa continue their merry ways or will they hit their play-off wall once more ? Australia is missing their big quicks, but would anyone underestimate them ? The Champions Trophy: And then there were five left Preview We are one week and halfway into the Champions Trophy and seen three teams being eliminated after two rounds of matches. The official hosts Pakistan just were unable to overcome the pressure of a home tournament. They crumbled rather meekly against a very efficient and impressive New Zealand and then just were not able to challenge India. Bangladesh predictably capitulated by ceding significant ground in the first quarter of both games, and even though they tried hard there were simply unable to match either India or New Zealand. Clearly India and New Zealand have laid down markers as the teams to beat in this tournament. Then again their first challenge is when they play each other over the coming weekend. England was part of the two best games in the tournament so far, but just slip their advantage again and again and ended up being the third team to be eliminated. In 2025, the English cricket teams (men and women) have a combined record of 1-16 ! Australia, South Africa and Afghanistan will be battling for the two semi-final slots from group B. In this conversation we will take a look at the 8 games that have been played and discuss what we liked and did not from each time. During the chat we touch upon the following questions - Does England require a major overhaul of their white ball setup ? What happened to Pakistan ? How good can New Zealand be ? Can India ward off New Zealand ? The Champions Trophy Preview Moving on from the various ODI bilateral and tri-series into tournament play. The 2025 Champions Trophy is starting in less than a week being played in Pakistan and Dubai. A short tournament featuring 8 teams drawn up in two groups of 4, with the top 2 in each group advancing to the semi-finals. Ten games will be played in Pakistan (Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi) and 4 in Dubai with the venue for the final contingent on whether India is still in fray. Group A features India, Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh and Group B has Australia, England, Afghanistan and South Africa. Between the World T20 in 2024 and the WTC, teams have not really play much ODI cricket since the 2023 World Cup. The form guide though suggests that India and New Zealand might be the teams to watch for, then again between varying conditions and teams doing a lot of experimenting it is difficult to draw any specific pattern. In this conversation we will be taking a look a brief look at the squads of the 8 teams and trying to assess their prospects. In particular factoring in the non availability of key players in some teams. We will also be spending more time on the selections for Team India, particular the curious decision of taking a spin heavy unit to Dubai. During the chat we touch upon the following questions - Can Afghanistan cause any ripples like in the 2023 World Cup ? Does Australia have it in them to overcome the absence of all their first line quicks ? Will England wake up from their stupor ? How will New Zealand fare for their first major tournament without Boult and Southee ? The South Africans have been severely impacted by the loss of many quicks. Will their reserve quicks come to the party. Can Pakistan handle the intense pressure of a home campaign ? Will India prove that the England series was just a trailer to a ICC trophy win ? #TeamIndia #Australia #England #SouthAfrica #Pakistan #ChampionsTrophy #2025CT #ICC #BCCI Participants: Vasant Kumar Ramakrishnan G Iyer Anand Kumar Sankaran Vijaykumar Balasubramanian Also available on Apple Podcast and Spotify. https://all-out-for-no-loss.captivate.fm/episode/preview-champions-trophy-2025

India routs England In this conversation we will be reviewing the India v England ODI series. The Indian team handily routed the English white ball teams in the 8 game series spanning both T20Is and ODIs with the final score line being 7-1. One of the biggest indicators was that England's No.11 batter got to bat in every single game ! While England was able to put up some resistance in three of the five T20Is, the ODI series was absolutely one-sided. India handily won the first two games in 37 and 42 overs and that was even though they clearly started taking things easy in the final stretch. And then in the final game the margin was 142 runs with England barely batting 35 overs. This English team clearly looked completely out of depth with just a few flickers of resistance which for most part came from their openers. Their bowlers looked pedestrian other than Adil Rashid and to a lesser extend Mark Wood. To boot they seem to have a lot a few first XI players to injury. These performances do not augur well for their chances in the Champions Trophy. That said they always seem to play better in Pakistan than in India. Team India looked imperious even without Bumrah. Rohit seems to have regained his mojo, Gill is looking like a million bucks, Virat scored a very good 50, Iyer is looking ready to reprise his heroics from the 2023 WC. The bowling unit looked in great shape with even Shami slowly showing signs of getting back into his groove. During the chat we touch upon : Are India's two white ball teams ready to be the dominant white-ball force in the next few years ? Has the elusive balance finally been achieved for Team India? Is Team India primed to make a strong statement in Champions Trophy ? What ails England ? Why are they not playing to potential ? Review of India England T20I series and preview of ODI series In this episode we are reviewing the T20I series where an electric Team India absolutely thrashed England. In the first game the target was chased down in less than 13 overs and in the last game, we could have asked them to bat again and still won. There was a humdinger in Chennai and a very efficient win in Pune which provided the additional benefit of getting under the skin of the English team. The only misstep was in Rajkot where our batters could not silence Adil Rashid. Also in this episode we will be previewing the ODI series that started on Feb 6 and more importantly the trial run for the Champions Trophy for both team. On paper both teams are strong contenders for that Champions Trophy and this series might serve as some kind of a litmus test. During the chat we touch upon Is Abhishek Sharma the real deal ? White Ball Cricket Returns After a grueling series in Australia, the Indian team is back to playing white ball cricket for the next few month. First it will be a five game T20I series against England followed by a 3 game ODI series against the same opposition. Then the team goes to Dubai to play the Champions Trophy after which IPL 2025 starts. In this episode we are previewing the T20I series pitting an Indian T20I team that looks more aligned to the modern T20 game against a very powerful England side. The Surrender at the SCG An all to play for test match on a green mamba at the SCG that culminated with Australia regaining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on the strength of a pair of sustained bowling performances. Even before the test it was becoming increasingly clear that the team was struggling to get their act together. We had the head coach being combative in the pre-game press conference, and then a lot of speculation as to whether the designated captain would be playing. The uncertainty continued all the way to the toss before it was confirmed that Rohit was not playing - dropped or opted or stood down - nobody will ever know. And then came the rather surprising selection of two spinners in playing XI for a match that was to be played on a green top. Then came the now familiar routine of our main batters struggling as we got bowled out for 185 in the first go around. It looked all lost when Bumrah left the ground for scans, but our other two seamers fought back and managed to get India a 4 run lead. After a riotous start to the second innings, our batters returned to their tried and tested modes of failing as we had another batting collapse at the hands of Scotty Bowland who finished with ten wickets in the match. This meant Australia had a smallish 4th innings target and that became miniscule when Bumrah did not take the field for the fourth innings. And even the blind faithful were forced to concede after about 6 overs of terrible bowling from the other quicks, as the game became a cake-walk for Australia. Questions What is wrong with the Indian team management ? Should the house be cleaned ? Is it the end of the road for Rohit and Virat in red ball cricket ? Will England 2025 look like the tours of 2011, 2014 and 2018 ? In this episode we talk largely about what happened at the SCG and in particular look at the causes for the struggles in this test and for that matter in the series. The Meltdown at the MCG An outstanding test match that saw some then 370,000 people throng the MCG. And a match that was essentially decided due to more mistakes committed by one of the teams. Team India was kept afloat largely by the performance of one individual - Jasprit Bumrah. Best exemplified by one exchange between comms where one said "Rohit must be trying to figure out whether he can bowl from both ends" and the response from the other was "Cummins would also like to have him bowl for his team. Perhaps one of the greatest bowling performances by an Indian bowler in an away series in SENA. What we have though is two senior batters who are woefully out of form, other batters who are either inconsistent or simply careless, a toothless bowling attack save one individual. Once the senior Aussie batters started scoring, it was always going to be a tough climb. Questions ? Is the team management thinking right with regards to personnel and balance ? Can you win with a one man bowling unit ? Can we stop Smith and Cummins ? What are we talking about in this episode ? In this episode while we talk about what happened at the MCG dwelling more on what were the causes and what can be done to turn around the ship. A fightback in Sydney will still suffice with regards to retaining the BGT although perhaps a place in the WTC final might be a bridge too far. Boxing Day - Here We Come The 2024 BGT series is tantalizing poised at 1-1 with 2 to play and the teams are making their way to the MCG for the Boxing Day Test. Reports are that the tickets for the first couple of days have been sold out - so we might see a raucous 100,000+ people throng the G to watch the teams resume their series. Team India will surely be happy with the current state of affairs with the series tied at 1 apiece with somewhat friendlier venues to negotiate. The curator has promised a green top that will settle down a bit and allow the spinners to come into play. More importantly has joined the Aussies media in trying to get under the skin of the Indian team and media personnel. Will Team India get inspired by their past record at the G ? How will the draw at Brisbane play a role in the strategies of both the team ? Is there a possibility that some tactical decisions be impacted by the WTC ? Has Australia made an inspired change by blooding a teenager - the last one they coopted is now the captain of the national team. In this episode while we talk about the prospects of the upcoming Boxing Day test, we will be walking you through the last 50 years of India v Australia test matches at the MCG. From the inimitable B.S.Chandrasekhar's twin 6/52 to Ajinkya Rahane's sublime 100 and a lot of action in the middle. This includes Kapil Dev da Jawab nahin, the wicket that changed the trajectory of the series, that Katich full-toss, the anointing of the great Jasprit Bumrah and not to forget the pitch tampering during the game by the MCG curators. Ravi Ashwin Retires India's star spin bowler R.Ashwin retired from international cricket on Dec 19 at the conclusion of the 3rd Test in Brisbane. In this episode the full crew of ‘All Out 4 No Loss’ get together and discuss the life and times of R Ashwin as an Indian cricketer. Ashwin is a statistician’s delight and this helps us dig into some of the numbers such as his overseas performances, specific scores and the impact on a game, and inevitable comparisons to peers and yesteryear gates. This didn’t restrict us from getting sentimental over some of his knocks and spells as only die hard fans can. Ashwin had an illustrious career spanning over 14 years starting with appearances in the white ball format before making his debut in tests in 2011. Had a magnificent career particularly in tests finishing as the second highest wicket taker for India and the 7th highest overall at the time of his retirement. To boot was a very capable batter finishing with 6 test centuries to his name. The only one among the top 10 test wicket takers in the game to have more than one test hundred. Was the ICC International Cricketer of the Year in 2016. Also was a critical part of the national white ball teams for a long time, was part of the 2011 World Cup winning team, the 2013 Champions Trophy winning team and was a big part of the team's run to the final of the 2014 T20 World Cup. A career littered with many special moments like to name a few: Bowling the last over in the Champions Trophy That leave and then the shot in the titanic T20 WC game against Pakistan That carrom ball that spun across the wicket to bowl Amla in the 2014 T20 WC semi-final The batting heroics in Sydney, Mirpur, and Chennai and many more from all over the world.
