The Pope is torn between his loyalties to his father and his duties to the Church. Catherine experiences intense visions, often collapsing in a mystical ecstasy. It is during one of these visions that she receives the stigmata. Bernabo Visconti threatens several characters. Characters are shown drinking after a successful battle.
