Yesterday’s biggest economic story was the US inflation data for September, which showed a slight rise in prices, leaving investors to wonder whether the Fed will opt for a smaller rate cut – or none at all – at its next meeting in November. Meanwhile in Europe, the French government unveiled its budget plan for next year in an attempt to tackle the country’s large public debt and restore investor confidence. Today marks the official start of the earnings season, which should provide a nice distraction from all the other macroeconomic news.
