About this episode
Throughout the month of November, we will be releasing Friday episodes sharing the personal stories of families affected by Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in coordination with our “Be Their Hero” event that raises awareness for LLS. Join Devan Kline in a conversation with Beth Prus, a Burn Boot Camp Southpark, N.C. member, and former franchise partner whose nephew, Nathan was diagnosed with ALCL (anaplastic large cell lymphoma) in our latest Burn Boot Camp Podcast episode. Nathan went into the hospital Memorial Day weekend of 2022 with what we all thought was pneumonia. Nathan was later diagnosed with ALCL (anaplastic large cell lymphoma) - a very rare form of cancer, especially among children. After several weeks in the hospital, Nathan was given his first round of chemo and went through 6 months of chemotherapy. By December 2022, chemo was complete and it seemed like Nathan’s cancer was gone. The holidays were an amazing celebration of our blessings! However, in January 2023, tests showed that Nathan’s cancer had returned. With chemo not working, Nathan is currently participating in a clinical trial of a newer cancer drug, Ensartnib, which can help keep the cancer at bay. Nathan is a strong boy who is fighting cancer with everything he has. Beth shares “I don’t even imagine a day without him. You just have to believe in the best and we all do that. We are going to keep going, we got this.” Today Nathan is in school and playing on his beloved soccer team, but he continues to fight this awful disease every single day. And we all want to do what we can to help him fight.
