Deanna’s journey started 10 years ago when her future husband Dan Gundecker got her back on the court after she hadn’t played for 30 years. From the bottom to the top lines of her ALTA and USTA teams, her dedication and effort have taken her far! Deanna describes how her coach, Marcus Hertig, has guided her development as a player and how Dan’s steadfast support helped her become a better player and partner. “The personal story is just part of it,” she continued, recounting her love for teaching new players, captaining teams to championships, and creating a family environment at the Martin’s Landing Tennis and Pickleball Club. Throughout the episode Deanna relays how much tennis means to her family, the journey she took to go watch the pros, and her vision to bring it to the future. She thinks the “tennis lifestyle” is the fountain of youth, and is inspired by the older players at her club who still thrive on the court.
