Damion Young, also known as Damizza, is an American radio executive, record producer, artist and author. Young began his career as a studio assistant at the age of 12, where Young went on to popularize numerous artists while working at Santa Barbara’s KHTY station, including Fiona Apple, Garbage and Hootie & the Blowfish, and later served as the head of Los Angeles’ Power 106 and New York’s Hot 97. Young would later go on to produce Crybaby (Mariah Carey song) featuring Snoop Dogg. Young, has also worked with Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and Korn. Pastor Troy sits down with Rachel Renee' and Big Court to discuss his upbringing in the church and being the son of a pastor. PT admits that his parents were supportive of his rap career despite their strong religious beliefs and practices. He released his first album, We Ready (I Declare War) , in 1999. To generate attention and buzz, he attacked record producer Master P verbally on the song "No Mo Play in G. A." Fellow Georgia-based rapper Ludacris enlisted Troy to appear on his Jermaine Dupri -produced song "Get Off Me", from the former's Def Jam Recordings debut, Back for the First Time . Troy also formed the Augusta, Georgia -based hip hop group D.S.G.B. (Down South Georgia Boyz) during this time, for which he served as frontman. He guest appeared on Lil Jon & the Eastside Boyz' song "Throw It Up", from their collaborative album Kings of Crunk (2002). In 2002, Troy's album Universal Soldier became popular in the South ; it spawned the single "Are We Cuttin'" featuring Ms. Jade , which was also featured on the soundtrack for the action film xXx , released that year. The album debuted at number 13 on the Billboard 200 . [6] In 2003, Troy appeared on Young Jeezy 's 2003 album Come Shop wit' Me on the track titled "GA". Troy released By Any Means Necessary in 2004. Following this album, Troy was released from his Universal contract due to creative disputes. He then released Face Off, Part II , which addressed some issues with Lil Scrappy and BME. In 2005, he appeared with Killer Mike on Chamillionaire 's track "Southern Takeover" off of The Sound of Revenge . He released three albums in 2006, starting with Stay Tru , followed by By Choice or By Force and Atlanta 2 Memphis , the latter on which in collaboration with Memphis, Tennessee , rapper Criminal Manne . Stay Tru entered the Billboard 200 at number 150, selling 6,000 copies its first week. Troy released his sixteenth solo album, Ready for War , in June 2009, and released seven follow-up studio albums until 2011. In 2012, he released The Last OutLaw , and in 2013, he released The Streets Need You . In 2014, he released the mixtape Crown Royal Part 4 , as well as the album Welcome to the Rap Game , while he released the sixth installment of his Crown Royal mixtape series in 2015, along with WAR (We Are Ready) in Atlanta , which featured Paul Wall and Bun B . In 2017, Troy announced his retirement, and released his last album O.G.P.T in July of that year. He also announced he was in the process of completing his second film, titled Down 2 Come Up , which he wrote, directed, and starred in, which was slated for released on March 17, 2020. Cynthia Rothrock is a martial arts expert and athlete, who went on to become a film actress, starring in a number of highly successful martial arts action movies. She first made a name as an action actress in Hong Kong before going on to wow audiences in her home turf. At the time of her popularity, she was well-known as the "Queen of Martial Arts films". Cynthia Rothrock is the World Champion in martial arts Forms and Weapons (1981-1985). Her goal was to be undefeated and retire after five years. With over 100 competitions, she holds the undefeated worldwide record in martial arts Forms competition. In weapons competition, Cynthia is the first and only woman to win number one in North America against the men-at that time, women had to compete with the men. She holds five Black Belts with a rank of 8th Dan Grandmaster. Upon completing her goal of being undefeated in competition, she began her martial arts acting career starring in movies produced and filmed in Hong Kong. Her first movie, Yes, Madam alongside Michelle Yeoh, broke box office records making her a massive star in Hong Kong. After three years of living in Hong Kong, finishing seven films, she returned to the United States to continue her acting career. Today she has starred in over 60 movies. In March 2024, Black Belt Magazine named Rothrock number one in its list of "The Most Influential Women Martial Artists on the Planet.". Rothrock is a proud inductee into the prestigious Black Belt Hall of Fame, along with Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris. In 2016 she was the first martial artist (male or female) to be inducted into the prestigious International Sports Hall of Fame by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dr. Robert Goldman. Karyn White's self-titled debut album Karyn White was released in 1988. It was produced by L.A. Reid and Babyface and achieved platinum status in the U.S.. The album contained the Hot 100 hit singles "The Way You Love Me", "Secret Rendezvous", and "Superwoman" as well as the No. 1 R&B hit "Love Saw It", a duet with Babyface himself. White was nominated in the Best R&B/Urban Contemporary New Artist category for the 1989 Soul Train Music Awards, which was won by Al B. Sure! She also received nominations for two Grammy Awards. She became the first female artist to have the first three solo releases from their debut album hit No. 1 on the R&B charts. Her follow-up album was Ritual of Love in 1991. It had songs produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and featured the hit single "Romantic", which hit number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Other singles from the album include "The Way I Feel About You" (U.S. #12), "Walkin' the Dog", and "Do Unto Me" (the last two did not chart). The photographer and director Matthew Rolston directed the video for the hit single "Romantic". Michael Walls, who was credited as stylist on Ritual of Love, worked with White on the look for the Ritual of Love album sleeve, and three of the music videos released for the album. Walls had the idea for the Chanel-inspired pearls and black dress used on the album cover, the French maid look and multiple wardrobe changes for video of "The Way I Feel About You", and the "Walkin' the Dog" video, which was based on a scene from the film Sweet Charity. Her next album was Make Him Do Right in 1994. The album did not sell well, although she did chart with the singles "Hungah" and the Babyface-penned "Can I Stay With You", which became her final U.S. R&B Top 10 hit in early 1995. "I'd Rather Be Alone", her last chart single to date, peaked at No. 50 on the same chart later that year. In 1995, White appeared with Mary J. Blige, Monica and others for the single "Freedom (Theme from Panther)" for the soundtrack to the Melvin Van Peebles film of the same name. White left Warner Bros. Records in 1999, and dropped out of the music public eye for many years to start a family. In 2006, she recorded a new album, titled Sista Sista; which was slated for release in 2006, but was shelved. Two tracks, "All I Do" and "Disconnected", were later released on the best of compilation album, Superwoman: The Best of Karyn White. She was also slated to appear on the Soul Train Music Awards in 2009 as a tribute to Babyface Edmonds. However, this performance was canceled when Edmonds and Reid withdrew from the Soul Train ceremony, declining the honor. In 2011, she was slated to have shot a pilot for a reality series with R&B singers Shanice and Debelah Morgan. White released her first album after a seventeen-year break, Carpe Diem, in March 2012. The album featured the singles "Sista, Sista" and "Unbreakable," both of which received music videos. Cisco Reyes was born and raised in New York and now resides as a working actor in Los Angeles. He is an Afro Latino of Puerto Rican and Trinidadian decent. Cisco has a BA in Film and Television from HBCU Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. He then went on to study acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse under founder Milton Katselas, Richard Lawson and Gary Imhoff. Cisco is best know for his lead role as "Jesus" in the cult classic crime comedy "Next Day Air". He recurred on numerous TV series such as: Bosch Legacy, Chicago PD, A House Divided, Everybody Hates Chris. Cisco also has a very extensive voice acting career, playing various characters on video games like Dance Central, Swat, 50 Cents Bulletproof and many others. He has recently been awarded a 2024 HAPA award for Best Ensemble Cast and also a 2023 HAPA Award for "Best Actor in An Independent Film" for "Picture Me Dead". He received "Best Lead Actor" at the Newark International Film Festival for "The Love of Musiq". Cisco loves giving back to the community and for the past 10 years he has been mentoring 5th graders in screenwriting through Young Storytellers Program. New Orleans bred rapper and Original Hot Beezy, Turk, was first discovered in 1996 when the owners of Cash Money Records (brothers Ronald "Slim" Williams and Brian "Baby" Williams) noticed the aspiring artist rapping and rhyming in the nearby Magnolia projects. Later that same year, Turk made his recording debut with a cameo on Juvenile's solo debut, “Solja Rags.” Turk was billed as Young Turk, and welcomed into the newly formed Hot Boys (which also included Juvenile, B.G., and Lil Wayne), issuing “Get It How U Live!” in 1997 and “Guerilla Warfare” two years later. Turk continued to make cameos on other rapper's recordings, including Juvenile's big hits, “400 Degreez” and “Tha G-Code,” Lil Wayne' “Tha Block Is Hot” and “Lights Out,” as well as B.G’. “It's All on U, Vol. 1” and It's All on U, Vol. 2.” June 2001 saw the release of Turk' solo debut, “Young and Thuggin',” on Universal Records. Turk recorded “Untamed Guerilla” for Cash Money as a follow-up, but soon jumped ship to Koch, following in the footsteps of B.G. “Untamed Guerilla” remained unreleased and Turk made his Koch debut in 2003 with “Raw and Uncut.” In January 2004, Turk was in a Memphis, TN, apartment when narcotics officers and SWAT team members stormed in. According to police, Turk allegedly shot an officer during the drug raid; however, the rapper claimed he was hiding in the closet without a gun. At a preliminary hearing, a charge of first-degree attempted murder was reduced to second-degree attempted murder, but Turk was granted bail in the state but was not granted bail in the feds. While Turk was awaiting trial in prison as his third album, “Penitentiary Chances,” hit the streets in April 2004. After 8 years 8 months and 16 days Turk was released from prison on October 12, 2012, and has hit the ground running, doing interviews, making appearances, and getting in plenty of studio time. Turk has since started his own label “YNT Empire” with a lot of great up and coming artists on his roster. Turk's first project after his prison release, "Blame It On The System" let his fans know that he was back and the Game was about to change. After his release, Turk took 12 months of Domination to a whole new level. Hit after hit, Turk continues to provide the consumer base with such tracks as “52 Bullets” “Hold Up LeBron” “Fuck how It Turn Out” and so many more. With his recent appearance on Iyanla Vanzant: Fix My Life, Turk is allowing the world insight as to his relationship with wife, Emani and what life behind the music is all about. After finding success with Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Krayzie Bone recorded his solo debut, Thug Mentality 1999, in 1999. The album was released as a double disc set, featuring a large selection of guest appearances, including Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Mo Thugs, Mariah Carey, ThugLine, The Marley Brothers, Big Pun, Fat Joe, Cuban Link, Gangsta Boo, E-40, 8 Ball & MJG, Kurupt, Naughty By Nature and Snoop Dogg. The album was largely produced by multi instrumentalist Romeo Antonio and was certified platinum by the RIAA. In 2001, Krayzie Bone released Thug On Da Line, which received generally positive reviews from music critics and went gold. In 2005 Krayzie Bone was featured in the song "Ridin'" by Chamillionaire. "Ridin'" was awarded "Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group" at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards. It was also nominated for Best Rap Song. It became number one in December on the Pop Chart 3 months after its physical release. The song also topped the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number 2 on the UK Singles Chart when it was released there. The song ranked #3 on Rolling Stone's "100 Best Songs of 2006" and #91 on VH1's "100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop". It was the best selling ringtone in 2006, with 3.2 million sales, certified by the RIAA as the first multi-platinum Mastertone artist in history. It was also awarded the last Best Rap Video at the MTV Video Music Awards, which was awarded in 2006. Krayzie Bone comes from a fourth generation family of Jehovah's Witnesses, and as such does not celebrate Christmas. He believes many rappers are unintentionally following the agenda of the Illuminati.[9] On September 24, 2023, Krayzie Bone was admitted to a hospital in Los Angeles after coughing up blood in his sleep, what was later attributed to sarcoidosis. Doctors were unsuccessful in an emergency surgery. On September 26, he was sedated due to a main artery in his lung leaking. However, on October 3, he announced he had recovered from the ailment. X-Raided is a rapper from Sacramento, California. In 1992, he was sentenced to 31 years in prison on murder charges, which he denied, maintaining his innocence. The lyrics of his debut album, Psycho Active, was submitted as evidence by the prosecutors. The Los Angeles native turned an entry level job in the mailroom of Priority Records into an explosion of rap music history. As he grew into West Coast Sales Representative, he presented the concept of the distributed label to Priority—signing a label as the company would an artist. The distributed label blueprint was the first of its kind with the 1996 signing of Master P’s No Limit Records. From 1997 until 1999, Dave’s distribution deals were duplicated and revenue from these partnerships skyrocketed to over 300 million dollars. He went on to head Interscope-distributed JCOR Records and consulted for various labels before becoming Vice President of Strange Music in 2009. There, he and his team led the company to becoming “the most successful independent rap record label in the industry” with multiple RIAA certifications and Top Five debuts on the Billboard Top 200 completely outside of the system. R Marcus Taylor Is best known for playing music mogul Suge Knight in the NWA Biopic "Straight Outta Compton" and Michel'le's Biopic "Surviving Compton". At five years old, all Marcus wanted to become was Superman. When he realized that couldn't happen, he decided taking Karate lessons was the next best thing. Marcus went on to earn a black belt in Karate, but along the way he began developing a love for various martial art forms. In addition to Karate, Marcus began intensive training in: Taekwondo, Muay Thai, Capoeira, and Hapkido, and has more than twenty years of training in these forms. Marcus holds the rank of Kru in Muay Thai. Marcus also trains in several other martial art forms including: Kung Fu, Boxing, Judo, Ninjitsu, Gracie Jui Jitsu, etc. He has fought in tournaments and won titles including: the NJ StateTaekwondo Champion 1994, YB Choi Taekwondo Invitational Champion 1995, and the Muay Thai Warriors Cup Super-Heavy Weight Champion 2010. He has also worked as a certified personal trainer, gym owner, professional fighter, bodyguard, and has taught martial arts and self-defense locally and internationally for the last twenty-four years. Marcus also works as an actor and stuntman, where his strongest areas are fight scenes, stunt doubling, choreography, and stunt falls. David Weldon grew up in South Central Los Angeles. As he was coming of age as a hip-hop producer in the early '90s, he got caught up in a feud between the two biggest West Coast rap names of the time: Eazy-E and Dr. Dre. The pair had great success together with N.W.A, bringing gangsta rap to the masses, but Dre left the group over a financial dispute and allied with former bodyguard Suge Knight, as part of the upstart label Death Row Records. Weldon, who goes by Rhythm D, was initially aligned with Death Row, and left not long before the release of Dre's legendary 1992 album The Chronic, complete with its eviscerating Eazy-E disses on "Fuck Wit Dre Day." "You fucked with me, now it's a must that I fuck with you." Weldon instead joined the camp of Eazy's Ruthless Records, stepping into Dre's role as the label's in-house producer. Weldon's most memorable production to come out of this era, Eazy's "Real Compton City G's," was a response to "Fuck Wit Dre Day," and was equally raw: "Watch the sniper, time to pay the piper," Eazy rapped, as well as mocking Dre for the feminine outfits he'd worn in his previous group, World Class Wreckin' Cru. Weldon went to great lengths to convince Eazy that the G-funk sound on "Real Compton City G's" set the appropriate tone. That the song was a hit — and helped Eazy get the last word in the famous battle — owed much to its sinister beat. Rhythm D's star was in orbit. But his newfound notoriety came at a cost: Those involved with the Ruthless/Death Row dispute had reason to be scared for their lives, and Weldon was watched over by a bodyguard named Big Animal. "I couldn't go nowhere," Weldon says. "It was a real beef." Indeed, such beef would take the lives of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls, and by the early 2000s Weldon had had enough. The Southern rap sound was ascendant, and he began making frequent trips to Atlanta. "Our music was caught up in gangsta rap instead of making people dance and have a good time," Weldon says. "The business was flourishing out here more than anywhere else. Instead of being mad at the South I came down here." Working with rapper Bonecrusher and shown the city's ropes by V103's DJ Nabs, he became increasingly enchanted with Atlanta. "People here are a little more warm, with the Southern hospitality," he says. He is currently signed to West Coast Mafia Records. C-Bo, notoriously known for his relationship with law enforcement, was one of the first rappers to be jailed due to his lyrical content, a scathing critique of political officials and police on his track "Deadly Game", and unsuccessfully argued for appeal 3 times, while gaining nationwide attention for arguably his most successful mainstream album. The incredible Malcolm Greenidge is best known in the music world as E.D.I. Mean, aka EDIDON, the Hip Hop artist, and entrepreneur famous for being an original member of the Outlawz with the legendary Tupac Shakur. He worked on the 2016 Tupac biopic All Eyez On Me as an Executive Consultant and Music Supervisor.Raised in New York, Greenidge became friends with Tupac Shakur’s cousin Katari “Kastro” Cox at High School, and along with Tupac’s godbrother Yafeu “Kadafi” Fula formed a rap trio under the names Thoro Headz and Young Thugs, with Greenidge initially rapping under the name Big Malcom. By this time Tupac had become a huge rap star and he let the trio guest appear on his 1993 single Holla If Ya Hear Me. The following year Mutah “Napoleon” Beale joined the trio and they renamed themselves Dramacydal, going on to guest appear on Tupac’s next record, his 1995 album Me Against the World. After Tupac’s release from prison they all banded together to form the group Outlaw Immortalz, later changed to Outlawz, and it was here that Greenidge became known as E.D.I. Mean.After Tupac was killed in a drive-by shooting in 1996, E.D.I. Mean and the rest of the Outlawz moved back to the East Coast. Then following Kadafi’s murder, the group returned to California and signed a deal with Death Row Records. The Outlawz released their debut album, Still I Rise, in 1999. South Central Cartel is a hip hop group from South Los Angeles, California. As one of the first West Coast gangsta collectives to follow N.W.A's lead, South Central Cartel first appeared with their debut album South Central Madness in 1991, before releasing a succession of albums throughout the remainder of the decade. Their 1994 album 'N Gatz We Truss generated a sizable amount of attention in the hip hop scene, and Def Jam Recordings signed the group. This signing resulted in the release of their most commercially successful album, All Day Everyday, in 1997. Group leaders Havoc & Prodeje additionally released a string of albums as a duo on another label, helping garner a small yet healthy cult audience. Despite their lack of mainstream success, the group is a considered a pioneer of the gangsta rap subgenre. The groups singer L.V. (which stands for "Large Variety") is best known for his collaboration with rapper Coolio on the single "Gangsta's Paradise" and has been featured on multiple soundtracks since then. The first X-Raided album, Psycho Active, was recorded in June 1990 with Sacramento rapper Brotha Lynch Hung, and released in 1992. Brown claims that the recording was made during a deadly conflict between the 24th Street Garden Blocc Crips and the Meadowview Bloods, contributing to lyrics full of violence. Rolling Stone Magazine wrote that "Psycho Active" was the most gangster album of all time.In March 1992, Brown was arrested with four other gang members for murdering Patricia Harris in her home. He was convicted of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of gang-related homicide and was sentenced to 31 years to life in prison.From 1993 to 1995, he recorded songs over the telephone while in jail awaiting trial. They were released on the 1995 album Xorcist. One track begins with a recording of a collect call which identifies him as "an inmate in Sacramento County Jail". This second album garnered even more attention and it was covered in various mainstream media outlets including Playboy (September 1996).His third album, Unforgiven (1998), was recorded on a DAT recorder smuggled in by a prison guard.[1] Beats were added later by producer DJ VerbalTek. His fourth, Speak of the Devil (2000), was credited to the pseudonymous "Nefarious" in order to evade California's Son of Sam II law, and his fifth, The Initiation (2001), was released on his own label, Madman Records. X Raided also earned a degree in Psychology and helped implement programs to aid in rehabilitation of inmates to be paroled and anti recidivism. Brown was paroled on September 14, 2018 after serving 26 years in prison. He said shortly after his release that he was abandoning his X-Raided persona and would perform as "Anerae Veshaughn", releasing music with a positive message.
