As a parent, it's easy to become overwhelmed at all of the information. Our first caller on today's episode is afraid to speak to someone about lactation issues because of this fear. Erin from Mississippi: I have been formula-feeding and pumping to supplement her formula with breast milk because she could not latch, but now she is nursing, but my supply is not enough. I'm terrified to talk to a lactation consultant because I'm afraid that her advice might contradict the schedules that we follow with Moms On Call. What you think I should do? Today's bonus calls: Cynthia from South Carolina: I have a little one who is about to be three months old. I haven't started swaddling him with one arm out because he's not really showing signs of rolling yet. We've been practicing. He's been good with tummy-time. Can start swaddling him with one arm out starting next week? As a thank you for being one of our first podcast listeners, save 20% on any product purchased through our website with the code PODCAST!

With summer right around the corner, everyone is getting excited about vacations and travel ... but NOT parents of kids who love their sleep schedules. Time zone traveling can create a nightmare when it comes to keeping littles in a routine, but it CAN be done. Laura and Jennifer help Karen from Portland get back on track to start out today's episode. We went on vacation recently and we got off schedule. We were three time zones away and now nobody's sleeping at all. How do we get back on track? Oh, and just as importantly, how do we avoid that the next time we go on vacation? Coming back to reality has been absolutely brutal. Today's bonus calls: Rose in New York City: I leave home at 5:30 in the morning and return home at 8:45 PM. I have an almost four year old and an eight month old. Both sleep with me in my bed, even though they have their own bed, and I go like a ping pong between them, breastfeeding and hugging all night long. I am tired physically and mentally. I just really need help on how to fix our routine, especially around nighttime. My mother and husband help, but they're pretty much pushovers and they don't follow the schedule. Lacey in Tennessee: My three month old has several allergies that we're working through right now. I've cut a lot out of my diet and she seems to feel better, but for this reason we've not done sleep training yet. Do you think it's okay to sleep train her now, with allergies, or should I wait? Lauren from Louisville, Kentucky: I am a first time mom with a 17 week old, who has slept through the night for eight weeks. He was showing signs around 14, 15 weeks to move up to the new schedule, so we did that and now he has been waking up early and it's messing up our whole schedule. I need help. Today's calls: Avery in Fort Myers: Our daughter's about to be 13 months old and she still wakes up at least once a night, and that's a good night. Is it too late to sleep train her now? If it's not, should we wait until the new baby comes (due in two months) and then sleep train them both together? Kristen from Monterey, California: My almost eight week old baby is giving us long stretches at night, which has been awesome, anywhere between five and a half to seven and a half pretty consistently. But he won't take one single daytime nap in his crib. Any advice you have for daytime naps? Virginia from South Georgia: In April we will be taking a trip to Colorado, and I know the time we'll go back two hours. We'll be staying for five days, four nights. When I get there, should I immediately go to the new time and stick to her schedule? Or should I just keep the schedule we have and maybe wake up two hours earlier with her and put her down two hours earlier so that when she gets back home she'll be fine? We have two questions today about getting your little one to sleep through the night ... or maybe just a little bit later in the morning. Bridget from Minnesota asked 'I'm about to be in my third trimester. We really want to sleep train our baby and a lot of my friends have used Moms On Call and they say they love it. I was wondering if there was anything that my husband and I could do before the baby arrives to prepare for Moms On Call, and how soon we should start the process after we get home from the hospital.' And Lauren from Lauren from Manchester, New Hampshire wanted to know if she was starting bad habits: I have a four month old and I've been following your book since the beginning but I have caved on that 5am wake up. I was getting her out of bed, bringing her to my bed, nursing her. Any advice is welcome. I worry that I'm creating a bad habit. This season, we are going in-depth with answers to your questions. If you have anything you want to ask, please leave us a message at 888-234-7979. How do you make the transition from crib to bed? And how do you know when to do it? Thank you to Erika, who lives in Kentucky, for asking about this: So do I start preparing my son for a toddler bed by talking about it, or do we just put him in a big bed and hope for the best? I've heard a lot about bed railings, is that something you recommend? I'm nervous he's going to fall out of the bed or that he'll get out of the bed and wander around the house looking for us in the dark. Any suggestions would be super helpful. We also had time for two bonus questions: From Lauren in Florida: I have a 16 month old and we are having trouble with our naps. She is waking up consistently at one hour and screaming, crying, and is so mad for at least an hour. I need some help on that because it has been very stressful. Thank you. From Deanna in Wake Forest, North Carolina: I have a three week old and we are wondering what we are supposed to do when soothing doesn't work at night or during naps. Do we just soothe for some amount of time and leave her crying and restart the timer? What do we do when she has been fed, changed, but is still crying and not falling asleep after soothing? How do you know when it's time for your little one to give up the pacifier? And how do you do it? Thank you to Caroline, who lives in Atlanta, Georgia for asking about this very common topic. My son is 14 months old, he's a sweet boy and he is obsessed with his paci. He carries it around everywhere, he holds it with one hand while he eats. I told myself we would make him give it up when he turned one, but he loves it so much I haven't been able to do it. Do you have any tips for getting rid of the pacifier? We also had time for two bonus questions: From Brianna in Nashville: I've got a 13 week old darling little girl, and we recently did our three night sleeping through the night protocol and it went pretty well. And then we went out of town and we have not been sleeping through the night since we got back. How do we get back on track so she can be getting those full nights of sleep, and mommy can too. From Brooke in Virginia: I have six kiddos and my oldest is adopted, and then I have two foster kiddos on the tail end that are one and two. And the one year old will not nap. It almost seems as if she has trauma attached to nap time because she will sleep through the night. And I've tried lots of different things, but I'm wondering if you guys can help. Could you talk about the differences between starting our baby on purees or going straight from formula to real food, and is there any advantage to one or the other developmentally? We want to go in-depth with answers to your questions for season two of the MOMS ON CALL podcast. If you have anything you want to ask, please leave us a message at 888-234-7979. We are kicking things off with this question from Ashley, who lives in San Diego with her two little ones: "Our first baby was sleeping through the night at eight weeks and has always been the happiest baby, thanks to you guys. However, our second baby is 11 weeks old now and is so different from our first. We can't get him to nap for more than 30, 40 minutes. He's still waking up once a night and having colicky fits. We just thought that we'd be past this stage by now. He even spits up my breast milk like crazy so I'm trying formula. And I even gave up coffee and wine (so I have nothing to live for now). Currently, he's in a bassinet in our room so I'm going to try moving his crib downstairs but obviously I'm nervous about him waking up his older sister. I have four weeks to get him sleeping through the night before I have to go back to work. Please help us." We get a lot of questions around food allergies in babies, so we called in the experts! In this bonus episode of The Moms on Call Podcast, Dr. Gideon Lack and Catherine Jaxon, Co-Founders of Mission MightyMe , talk to Jennifer and Laura about preventing food allergies in children and the power of early allergen introduction, including the new allergy prevention recommendations for babies. In this episode, you will hear two perspectives on the allergy epidemic in children and how you can prevent food allergies in your own families. Catherine shares her real-life experience as a food allergy mom and Dr. Lack explains the science behind his groundbreaking research on food allergies in children and how early, proactive introduction can actually prevent allergies. Catherine and Dr. Lack bring meaning to the term “made with love, backed by science”! Their company, Mission MightyMe , is a revolutionary new food company on a mission to end the food allergy epidemic by making it deliciously simple to follow new pediatric guidelines for including peanuts and other potentially allergenic foods in infant diets. Thank you to Mission MightyMe for sponsoring this podcast and giving us the opportunity to share this powerful information with our audience. Mission MightyMe wants to support the Moms on Call community by providing a simple (and delicious) way to follow new guidelines for keeping peanuts in babies’ diets regularly and are generously offering 20% off your first order at missionmightyme.com with the code MOMSONCALL20 . For more information from Mission MightyMe, check out these blog posts: Introducing Solids, Including Peanuts and Other Potential Allergens Why Does Eczema Increase the Risk of Food Allergies? About Catherine Mitchell Jaxon As a food allergy mom, Catherine and her husband, JJ, understand what living with allergies is like. Their oldest daughter is allergic to most nuts. When their third child was born, they discovered Dr. Gideon Lack's groundbreaking research that found up to 86% of peanut allergies could be prevented by starting peanut foods in infancy. It gave them hope that they could prevent another food allergy in their family, but nuts and nut butters are a choking hazard for babies, and the entire baby food industry is allergen-free. So, they decided to make their own. About Dr. Gideon Lack Dr. Gideon Lack is one of the world’s leading pediatric allergists. His research has revolutionized food allergy prevention and is transforming the way we feed our kids. Dr. Lack’s groundbreaking Learning Early About Peanut Allergy (LEAP) Study found that most peanut allergies could be prevented by including peanut protein in babies’ diets - early and often. And subsequent studies, including Dr. Lack’s EAT Study , have shown this proactive approach can work for other foods as well. His research upended decades of outdated food allergy advice and led to new American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines recommending early peanut introduction in infancy and new USDA Dietary Guidelines recommending early introduction of all common food allergens in infancy.
