Testing your soil in the off-season before spring rolls around gives you an earlier start toward correcting any deficiencies. Fall and winter are the best times to amend your soil with organic components because they will have a chance to break down into the soil and incorporate themselves so they are ready to be absorbed by your plants come spring. But the plethora of amendments available to the home gardener these days can be overwhelming. How do you know what to add, when to add it, and how much?
