We've been teasing it for weeks now. You loved our Bullitt podcast, so we now present you with another movie breakdown. This time it's from the opposite end of the car movie spectrum: the original The Fast and the Furious from 2001. Alex is joined by Zac, Beck, and Cam to air out their multigenerational viewpoints on this cinematic masterpiece, which was so formative to the automotive pursuits of many of our community members—especially those under, shall we say, "a certain age." The crew discuss how to rank the 11 movies in the oeuvre; the mentality of working with what you have (otherwise known as "run what you brung"); explanations behind some of the cars missing from the F&F roster, and one now missing from history; and the age-old tradition of terrible shifting in car movies. Also covered: the movie's notoriously uneven jargon; a catalog of stacked fender stickers; the modern, OEM-approved version of underglows; what it means to put down 10s in 2025 vs in 2001; an architectural travesty; mermaids; favorite cars from the movie; AI-written characters, 25 years before their time; and yes, even throughlines to other "car movies" like Bullitt and American Graffiti. Alex, Beck, and Tyler catch up in what can only be called a rambling fashion. They immediately launch into a career appreciation of Bill Paxton (RIP); talk sharing Thanksgiving plates and Tyler's 10-carb weekend; take a largely ignorant automotive linguistic detour; defeat the perils of disassembling modern interior trim; grouse about California smog testing; reminisce about the long road to Beck's E46 ZHP sedan going live on the site; and briefly cover VW Type 2 and Vanagon powerplant options. Alex describes the culmination of a lifelong dream: his recent acquisition of, and road trip in, his Euro 1978 308 GTB (spoiler: he reveals that, to this day, he's never had a car break down on the road). The crew wrap up by riffing on their various BaT watchlists. As our hosts recover from their various holidays, we revisit our May 2023 interview with Kobus , BaT commenter and contributor extraordinaire. Randy and Kobus discuss his formative years at Kyalami in South Africa (including talking his way into a media pass for the 1969 and 1970 Nine Hours); his love of driving and racing his vintage Porsches; getting into vintage racing in a stock 356 Cabriolet during the pandemic; and acquiring his Sand Beige 912 racer, seen at tracks and events all over the Northeast, followed by a very historic Formula V car. The two go on to share in the beauty and danger of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix in Schenley Park; their mutual admiration of the Goodwood Revival; their thoughts on Luftgekühlt; Kobus' work for the 356 Registry in print and online; and pre-war hillclimbs. Alex, Beck, and Zac sit down for the latest episode of One Year Garage our popular podcast game highlighting staff picks for the ultimate sports car, family hauler, truck, daily driver, and wild card from a given model year. This time it's 2012, and the crew revisit cultural moments such as The Audacity of Taupe, the Mayan calendar, and the top movies of the year, before game time. Spoiler: they then immediately hand Beck the lead and declare him the winner, perhaps jumping the gun just a tad. Also heard: the trio reveal the rest of their picks, discuss less-than-ideal motorcycle engineering, argue about Lexus colors, toss around nauseating phrases, lament the modern dearth of shooting brakes, relive the unfortunate gravity-aided demise of Zac's Cayman R, and share in collective McLaren confusion. Alex and Randy sit down to catch up and talk about a notable Success Story, the best roll bar this side of Durango, and an upcoming epic road trip for Alex and his son before a recap of Randy's recent trip to the UK for a special Grand Prix screening, the NEC Classic Motor Show in Birmingham, and hot laps at Goodwood. The duo move on to Reliant Scimitars; early-'80s badge engineering; reliving family road trips to Texas that may or may not have actually occurred; sage car-buying advice that every one of us has ignored; the day's accidental automotive show-and-tell; perhaps the perfect combination of family heritage and first stick shift; and a brief but telling insight into why BaT is the way BaT is. close out by looking at their recent watchlists and Alex relates a secondhand anecdote that epitomizes Randy's ideal life. In a BaT Podcast first that we'd love to make a regular feature, four of the crew gather at HQ to hash out one of our collective favorite car movies: none other, of course, than 1968's Bullitt with Steve McQueen. The crew start by establishing their various McQueen bona fides and history with the movie before talking about the evasive nature of the plot (and what, in fact, that plot might be); filming and financing details; background car spotting; San Francisco landmarks, both here and gone; razor sharp jaws; the sleep-inducing sections; regenerating hubcaps; the Lalo Schifrin score (or lack thereof, in key places); and of course, the most famous car chase in the movies. But they don't stop there - this movie has a lot more to cover, like several unintentional car stunts; Mopar-on-camera violence; gun-toting styles of late-'60s movie detectives; the film's sartorial choices; homages in later movies; and which of those movies should make it onto the list of future podcast subjects. Please help us extend a warm welcome to one of BaT's favorite designers, teachers, sellers, and all-around renaissance men: Raffi Minasian, known in these halls as @ raffi . He talks with Alex about his father's "trial by fire" mechanical training program; the roots of his obsession with car design; learning to drive in a 1952 Crosley (with doors!); human- and object-based empathy; a novel way to stay calm in the BaT comments; accidentally becoming a star seller for other people's cars; the odd calmness that 1,200 live BaT auctions can provide; his unorthodox, Pegaso-centric introduction to Art Center College of Design, his future alma mater; his 16 years in die cast design at Franklin Mint; insights into shifts in popular culture; embracing the ridiculous; and the Beetle as a gateway drug. The pair close out talking about Raffi's efforts in nontraditional, hands-on education for young children, his recent foray into TV writing and acting, and his numerous, fascinating upcoming projects. Alex and Beck sit down to catch up with Matt Schiller, CEO of Snappr —the professional-photos-anywhere agency that supports our BaT Plus listing photography service . The Australian Bay Area transplant talks about starting the company in Sydney with no intention of moving into the automotive space; assures us that even CEOs have excuses for looking at BaT instead of working; reviews the importance of accurate and numerous photos for large purchases made over the internet; and goes into some very telling stats gleaned from Snappr's seven-year relationship with BaT (the numbers don't lie: better photos sell more cars for higher prices!). The trio talk about the importance of keeping AI out of automotive sales photography, and also keeping a creator in the loop when using generative AI for non-automotive applications. All three are pilots at various levels, so fair warning: the tail(dragger) end of the conversation descends quickly into airplane madness. It's time once again for your favorite game—The One-Year Garage! This time we're back for one of the best automotive years imaginable: 1965, by special request of Sue Counselman from Vintage Underground . Alex and Randy talk about The Bridge IX, last weekend's refreshingly unique collection of three separate car events in the Hamptons. Randy's first time on Long Island could not have found a more fitting venue than among the ghosts of one of America's first road courses. They cover the dark reasons behind said courses' creation, the curated garden party atmosphere of the main Saturday event on the (former road, now golf) course, run-ins with great cars including a fabulously rare Volvo and a breathtaking array of Ferrari 308s, and the dichotomies of small, well-to-do East Coast villages. They move on to Day Three, wherein BaT and top seller 1600veloce co-sponsored the followup Cars and Coffee in the town of Bridgehampton; highlights from the morning included a dry-aged Mustang and too many other cars to list. Alex sits down with Randy and friend of BaT Jim Huff, furniture merchant and connoisseur of the Neue Klasse , to talk about racing at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion during this year's recent edition of Monterey Car Week. Both Randy and Huff drove in the Pre-Reunion and the main event later in the week; Huff describes mixing it up with Giulias and GTAs in the saloon class in his BMW 1800 Ti, while Randy and his Mustang held their own with more experienced racers amongst a crop of other animals: Cobras, Jags, and Tigers. Heartfelt recommendations come from all to spend time at the track if you ever find yourself on the Peninsula for Car Week (it's where it's at!). The duo "lightly threaten" to expand their efforts to the Pacific Northwest and (well) beyond, talk about developing camaraderie from on-track observations and paddock interactions, describe "helmet-yelling out of stoke," theorize about the ultimate old-school tow rig, take a brief aside to mention the the wooden boat of our dreams, and wrap up by recounting the recent 50th annual SAAC meeting at Sonoma. With well over 600 listings under their belts, dynamic duo Adam Mohr and Steve Kittrell know what it takes to put a great listing together and have made many a happy customer in doing just that. The pair talk about the early days and yo-yo-style relocations of the dealership, the mysterious circumstances of the partnership's fruition, how their annual Car Week collection came out of the COVID era, treating every car the same to achieve fair and consistent results, the Wild West of pre-BaT consignment, a notable local celebrity, how alumni listings and our new offers tool add to the transparent history of a car, the photographic embarrassment of riches available to them on the Monterey Peninsula, the Catch-22 of the comments section, and the skills of the folks who help them out on a day to day basis. Producer's note: Due to some technical kerfuffles, this week's episode sounds less than ideal. We'll be back to top form in no time! Alex, Randy, Howard, and Zac–the whole crew is back together again! They discuss Randy's first time out in the world of vintage racing versus Howard's lifelong experience; the stellar track food, green ravines, and worryingly fast straights at Road America; pit bikes; catching up with B.S. Levy ; the various on-track attitudes (and interpretations of vintage spec) from event to event; the experience of driving in the race car parade from the track to downtown Elkhart Lake; Spotted Cow; the next tracks on the list; exhausted radiators; some notable names they'll be sharing Laguna Seca with this weekend; and great memories from Malibu Grand Prix. The group close out with several recent collections from the site, hard-to-find hardtops, and other watchlist highlights from this very exciting and high-volume time at BaT. Alex and BaT strategy director Zac discuss the luxuries of bicoastal living; spring in New York City; the eye-opening rust situation for a first-time visitor to the Midwest; a novel way to avoid road tolls; which one is the "villain" of the podcast; and unspoken Wisconsin speed limits. Then, on to the main event: the absoutely stellar time we all had at Road America for our Alumni Gathering at the vintage races in July. Zac finds a way to briefly resurface his favorite car, the Toyota Solara, before they talk about the transformative experience (and innate patriotism) of the traditional Friday night race car parade into Elkhart Lake. The pair wrap up with some of the most interesting cars recently listed on BaT. In this latest installment of our popular One-Year Garage game, Alex, Beck, and podcast newcomer Cameron reveal their favorite cars, trucks, and wild cards of 1997, but not before explaining to young Cam the horrors of the Star Wars prequels he grew up with. Also: Schumacher and Villeneuve; the WALKinshaw Porsche WSC-95 at Le Mans; all three are old enough to be irritated by the vagaries of Google AI; wishful thinking about the availability of a manual transmission in the US-model Volvo 850R; a burnout instead of friendly wave; and a wilder wild card than usual. Producer's note: Our man Alex is still recovering from our recent gathering in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, and will be back to regularly scheduled programming next week. In the meantime, we've bookended the vintage races at Road America with local legends Peter Cunningham and, today, a revisitation of our entertaining 2024 interview with Shelby impresario and all-around rascal Colin Comer. Randy and Alex sit down with Shelby expert, restorer, journalist, author, and frequent BaT seller Colin Comer. They talk about his first MGB GT leading into the world of "bargain" Ferraris and his ultimate pathway to Shelby collection and expertise; a (literal) run-in with the law as a teenager in a rusty GTV; his hot take on the Cobra Daytona Coupe versus the plain-Jane roadster; sharing a Lister Knobbly with Sam Smith for a thousand miles; telling Keith Martin to stick to sports cars; the pitfalls and history-preserving rewards of being talked into book authorship while driving a 427 Cobra in the snow; buying "plenty" of Bugeye Sprites on the advice of Peter Egan ; and important things scrawled on bathroom walls. Alex and Randy issue quick non-sequitur opinions on the Dekon Monza and an appealingly basic Fairlane before launching into a recap of the recent Curated Cars & Coffee event in The Netherlands. They then launch into the main event: Randy's subsequent five-country journey through the Alps to Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este on Lake Como in his newly acquired 356A coupe, father (and lucky birthday boy) in tow. It's all there: countless hairpins in the passes, attempts to keep up with a Gullwing, windscreen wiper rationing, a thousand miles in Speedster seats, the Goldfinger Rolls, an impressive Bentley, and a hair-raising sprint to Munich on the Autobahn to cap it all off. Alex, Zac, and Beck get together to lick self-inflicted wounds; take a charmingly pessimistic view of what constitutes middle age; discuss how having a family influences one's driving style; compare the safety of a GT3 vs a handgun; talk about the changing tastes and time constraints associated with aging; equate driving in the Bay Area to driving on track; reveal the perception of a sports car in NYC versus California; wait for the vintage Fast & Furious style to come back around; and give a sad update on Leno's Law. Alex and Matt Farah, he of The Smoking Tire , two Westside Classic Car Storage facilities, and an enviable place on the Road & Track masthead, sit down in Farah's own TST studio to talk about what 166 trucks' worth of concrete will get you; the sobering math of car storage in the city; his lack of interest in world domination; why he still makes video content; the highest job title one can attain before things stop being fun; the ideal city plan for car people; the joys of an elevated appliance; an appreciation for his wife's Pao; appropriate vehicles for EV conversion; supercar patronage; the worst part of owning a DeLorean; taking all of half an inch; a literal barrier to entry in a Lamborghini; and an unlikely presidential ticket. We're giving Alex and the guys the week off for the first time since restarting the BaT podcast in January 2024. This week, we serve you a reheated and much-better-sounding version of Alex's February 2024 interview with the one-and-only, the legendary, the beloved, Peter Egan—he of Side Glances in Road & Track , of countless harebrained-slash-inspirational road trips, of April Fools road tests, and of so much more. This is the man that so many of us at BaT and beyond like to think we've fashioned ourselves after; a modest and humble writer who, perhaps unknowingly, has played a formative role in our addictions to the great machinery of the world, the call of the open road, and the treasures to be found when these things are combined. Peter sat down with Alex over a year ago in his erstwhile stomping grounds of coastal Orange County, California, to discuss his career and the cars, bikes, planes, people, and places it was formed around. They cover his entry into journalism via Cycle World ; the power of an interesting car, or a Piper Cub, to make friends out of strangers in faraway lands; the social advantages of touring the country in someone else's Ferrari; a memorable hometown show with Chuck Berry and Billy Peek, caught on happenstance; getting a glimpse of the Old Man at Fiorano; the art of (somewhat) feigning ignorance; getting locked into the Morgan factory at Malvern; sharing the last Everest flight of the season with Neil Sedaka, and only Neil Sedaka; whether Egan's next project will be a 76-year-old British sports car or a 27-year-old Italian superbike; and how Barb has stuck with him come fire and come rain (yes, Barb really is that great). Links for titles/listings discussed in this episode: The Ex-Peter Egan 1967 Jaguar XKE Coupe that was auctioned in 2019 with 335 comments—including one from the man himself, which gathered quite possibly the most thumbs-up a single comment has ever received on BaT Tom Cotter's Cobra story Egan's archive at the Road & Track website (may require a membership subscription) A variety of Egan's writing collections available for purchase (we highly recommend picking up every last one of them) Got suggestions for our next guest from the BaT community or One Year Garage episode? Alex and Beck spend some time catching up before moving on to a favorite subject at BaT: why we write the way we do. Topics range from the joys of using a vehicle for what it's for, the Sierra, the ski resort duopoly, transportation conundrums, Porsche shop updates, NSX pipe dreams, the true cost of the ultimate BaT photo gallery, and open bars at school auctions. Then, to the meat of the matter: fluffy marketing phrases we don't use at BaT, and why. They discuss the power of saying "I don't know," paint meter usage, the "squishy" terms of the car world, how the listing process works behind the scenes, the ethics and the judgment that define BaT style, and why transparency from the start is always the best idea. Alex invites Randy and Beck to talk room temperature issues, debate pronunciation of co-opted brand names, give a sneak peek at upcoming BaT events, discuss complicated child transport scenarios, hit a collective mental block about French motorcycles, lament the spreading of sacred regional fast food chains, ponder the RUFiest RUF, court rage on Instagram, and rue over-racing street cars. A new combination of combatants sits down to list out their preferred rides if it were 26 years ago. Alex, Zac, and Beck get in an early dig at the wholly innocent 318ti before discussing their first cars; Zac's real post-high-school destiny; the true meaning of 99; a boy band faux pas; Zac's yuppie destiny; important weight calculations for C5 Corvettes; and the last two pretty Ferraris. Alex, shockingly, comes up with an unpopular opinion about a BMW, but the rest of the crew can agree on the best location for any post-E90 chassis M3. Follow along! In episode 106 of the BaT Podcast, Alex and Randy are joined by previous guest (but One-Year Garage first-timer) Beck Deifenbach, BaT White Glove Manager, to focus on the year 2006. They discuss "Peak Analog" or even "the '60s of our generation," if you ask those from a certain generation, as well as the death of iDrive, hot times at Buttonwillow, the best value ratio at the movies, the sadness of grayscale German cars, and salamanders. The rules are argued and perhaps stretched, a remarkeable level of cohesion is reached on several picks, and a truly baffling choice is surfaced. A brief foray into ALMS yields many a theory about BMW V8s, and week-late predictions are floated about what will/would show up at our event in Scottsdale, Arizona this/last weekend (note: no Smart Roadsters were there, but the 308 GT2 most certainly was!). Through fits and starts, tech woes and the sweet serenade of the motorcycle shop next door, we somehow made to episode 100 of the BaT Podcast! The crew takes the opportunity to look back on our first abortive attempt in 2017; how office culture has pervaded the podcast throughout the years; Howard's biggest gaff with a ghost CEO; the joy of grilling beloved members of the BaT community; lies about Mustangs; authenticity, for better or for worse; overcoming technological woes; pats on the back all around; getting through TSA checkpoints while armed with mics and cables, increasing our fanbase one person at a time; bets on the current most rapidly depreciating new car (a rapidly decreasing amount of) money can buy. The quartet take a break to talk myriad recent listings of note, give yours truly resume advice, and end with a brief preview of episodes to come–stay tuned! Follow along! In episode 99 of the BaT Podcast, Randy visits the legendary Bruce Meyer's storied car collection in Los Angeles. They cover his early discovery of fellow enthusiasts at BaT; car collecting in the DNA; being born on the perfect day in history; his start as a corner paper boy; flipping and racing motorcycles while in college at Berkeley; buying his first Porsche via European Delivery in 1961; his "first, fastest, or prettiest" collection mentality; a predilection for race cars built by hot rodders; his lifetime of Cobra ownership, leading to acquisition of the very first production example; memories from 1960s Lake Tahoe, including the 327-powered Gullwing he picked up from the back of a wooden boat shop; watching out for "air cars"; his deep involvement as founding chairman of the Petersen Automotive Museum; and his love of the LA lowrider community. In episode 98 of the BaT Podcast, Alex heads to the downtown LA Arts District to talk Porsches and eclectic tastes with none other than Magnus Walker, who just happens to be well known in both arenas. The conversation includes appreciation for Alex's (soon to be for sale) NSX; the amazing live/work/play studio that Walker's media operations and collection call home; his early exposure to the car scene in and around Sheffield, land of fine stainless steel; a $200 1977 Corolla coupe as his first car in LA, and his modern quest to find another; acquiring his first-ever Porsche at the Pomona Swap Meet in 1992, famously kicking off a spree that has continued for 32 years and counting; building a collection when Porsches were affordable used cars for enthusiasts; the differences, or absence thereof, between a 901 and an early 911; the evolution of the 930 Turbo; the relative merits of every RS; non-Porsche marques that scratch an itch, including some surprising picks and a little dabbling in Lotus-land; his recently released project as a design consultant for Tom Walkinshaw Racing with Khyzyl Saleem; his respect for Jay Leno as a car enthusiast; and the best places to soak up inspiration. In episode 97 of the BaT Podcast, Alex, Zac, and Randy talk about the car- and BaT-related things that make them happy. Alternating between tongue-in-cheek and heartfelt, the wide-ranging discussion covers the merits of the first-gen Panamera; the curious state of the modern movie industry; a healthy dose of Batman (note the solo cap); discovering the I-5 rally stage out of Grapevine, California; defending the tall gearing of the five-speed NSX; a heretofore unknown appreciation of the donk (that's with a "k," folks, don't get too excited); turbo cars masquerading as N/A cars; revisiting prewar daily drivers; the various ways in which a vintage BMW might set itself alight; the joy of knowing a reliable mechanic for one's unreliable car; track time in a haggard Ferrari; a little back-patting; the struggles of Chrysler, timeline debatable; the upcoming Jaguar brand redesign; T-top desires; a hard, if unscientific, look at modern car enthusiasm; an appeal for updates on what people are doing with their BaT purchases; some thanks thrown to your humble podcast servant; a controversial wheel choice; and some Thanksgiving motherly love. In episode 96 of the BaT Podcast, Alex is joined once again by Beck Diefenbach, who has Thoughts on the One-Year Garage game. They recount favorite classic Top Gear episodes, talk about the "fall rush" in White Glove, and note the much-improved production times for Classic and Plus listings. Alex prepares to try out a BaT Local Partner for himself. The pair compose a paean to one of our very best people, go over notable White Glove auctions of recent months and the near future, and engage in obligatory 356 and Furhmann dives. Finally, they move on to their own takes on recent Questions of the Week, which in turn elicit several embarrassing admissions from them both: favorite sports sedans, cars with the coolest scoops, favorite promotional vehicles, and pre-war daily drivers. In episode 95 of the BaT Podcast, Alex and Zac welcome podcast newcomer and BaT stalwart, the one and only Patrick Trautfield, to join them for the latest round of The One-Year Garage. This time, it's 1984—a more difficult field on which to play than any of the trio imagined, but fertile ground nonetheless. Topics include a heretofore unknown first BaT Podcast attempt in 2017; the first-gen Toyota Camry Solara, that relatively agreeable precursor to one of the worst-looking cars ever made; much-delayed impressions from Luft 10; the shocking and completely unexpected realities of Ferrari ownership; overly generous definitions of "family hauler"; #vanagonlife; a Toyota trifecta; and a rowdy theme for the wild cards of the era. In episode 94 of the BaT Podcast, Alex, Randy and Zac shoot the breeze (but not the fish) about: Corona vs Cordoba, a rosier view of the current state of the market, Carrera RS colors, the dread question: "Is it real?", anti-stripe contrarianism, and searching by Lot Number, capping things off with a rambling exploration through our leaders' highly eclectic watchlists. They move on to display their collective, uncanny ability for remembering specific details from a huge list of movie cars (both stars and extras), dissect "ground effects," point out flawed car casting, and intentionally leave Eleanor out in the cold. For episode 93 of the BaT Podcast, Alex and Howard sit down with Andrew Glaser, founder and CEO of Vantage Auto , who has currently listed just under 1,500 cars on BaT and is still going strong. Andrew calls in from the rear end of a Maybach to discuss the recent BaT Alumni Gathering in New York; the Smart Crossblade as art; broken family promises; wholesaling 200 cars a week; a quick and necessary pivot as the pandemic set in; the beauty in low-mile examples of otherwise pedestrian cars; barns full of undriven Dodges in the middle of nowhere; the downside of over-reconditioning; the somewhat unusual position of being a car enthusiast in car sales; the Element and CR-V trends; "bids per mile"; a frank look at the current state of the market for volume dealers, and sage advice for others in the same position; the power of the comments section; well over the unicorn limit; the triumph and pain of selling 11 special cars at once; and an upcoming move into consignment. Alex and Zac are joined once again by BaT moto guru Tyler Greenblatt to discuss the intricacies of lane-splitting laws (or the absence thereof) in California; the ongoing resurgence of vintage Easy Rider -inspired Harleys with ape hangers; improper bike appearances in movies; rude stereotypes wry observations about BMW riders; the staying power of the vintage Honda minibike in our marketplace; groundbreaking early moto tech; Zac's aspiration to be the youngest person ever to go on a cross-country road trip on a Goldwing; a closet appreciation for the cash-guzzling Rune; the wisdom of sustained autobahn speeds in the US; and the secret talents and charisma of a Triumph triple. Alex interviews Jeff Mason, Super-Legit Car Guy as well as President and COO of The Piston Foundation , whose mission is to fund skilled trades programs to help a new generation of craftspeople build rewarding careers in the collector car industry. They start with a primer on what Piston does before moving into the strong interest in cars displayed by today's youth; how modern job readiness and technical education have evolved; the influence of the "Maker Movement"; professional skills vs. trades, and the latter as a jumping off point for both technical and non-technical careers in the collector car industry; the intersection between artistic expression and mechanical inclination; the confidence boost and satisfaction of learning to do something real; and the joy of working with purely objective quality standards. They turn to Jeff's own automotive experiences, such as piggybacking off of someone else's midlife crisis, to great effect: racing with his brother in the Carrera Panamericana, the Mille Miglia, and other famous rallies to come. The pair close by detailing the direct, meaningful downstream effects of donations to the Piston Foundation and how collectors can help change the community's workforce from "graying to growing." In episode 88 of the BaT Podcast, Alex, Randy, and Zac reunite to lick their respective social media wounds ahead of the third edition of their new favorite game, The One-Year Garage. This time, the year is 1956 and Howard kicks it off with an easy theft from Randy, who maintains that shoving one's children through uncomfortable spaces is much cooler than granting them their own doors and goes on to expound further on his own car-related deficiencies as a father. They move on to briefly rank the wives of Don Draper and mention Zac's upcoming race weekend in a field of, coincidentally, 56 Spec Miatas. The conversation turns to very special Italian sports cars and shocks Randy with a Porsche transmission revelation. Howard proves that one can make an eye-roll obvious in an audio recording, Randy does his best to describe the ultimate way to drive over a Canada goose, and Alex declares a favorite car of all time. Wild card territory sees Howard singing and declaring his love for Mike Hawthorn, Randy poking fun at our brick-and-mortar compatriots, Zac courting legal trouble with Ferrari, and everyone failing to send a link to the producer. They wrap by barely scratching the surface of honorable mentions for this absolutely stellar year in automotive history. We want to know: What five cars are on your list? Why are our picks stupid? What did we forget about in our race to pick perfection? Let us know in the comments below! Follow along! Alex and Zac tag-team to take on the one and only actor, Honda spokesperson, philanthropist, and soon-to-be-ex-pro wrestler John Cena. They start with a dazzling, if incomplete, list of Cena's accomplishments before moving on to the beginnings of his fascination with torture by British car; the formative influence of Matchbox cars in the mud and Richard Scarry's Cars and Trucks and Things That Go ; and the evolution from early East Coast hip-hop to the car-flaunting mainstream rap of the 2000s. Cena takes time out to demonstrate a perfect elevator pitch for the BaT model and community before diving back into the difference between Brock Lesner and a 2,000-pound supercar with 1,000 horsepower; the healthy balance struck in his relationship regarding car collecting and safety; humility as it relates to gratitude; finding the reward in running through the gears in his XK120, even without a turn in sight; the satisfaction of gauges arrayed across a wooden dash; a memorable first motorcycle experience followed by his brief residence in a Lincoln Continental; life lessons taught through two decades with his infamous un-Lambo; the difference between an intriguing car and one that just costs a lot; and finally, asking one's self the right questions about philanthropy.

Alex welcomes back George Levy, president of the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, this time with Class of 2025 inductee (and all-around class act) Skip Barber in tow. Mr. Barber's upcoming induction into the Hall of Fame next March will include a private VIP meet-and-greet as well as other priceless experiences for the lucky winner of our current charity auction to benefit the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization . Skip talks about a modern electric car attempting to break track records around the world; cutting his teeth driving backward as much as forward; his early years of racing a dilapidated Bugeye on less than a shoestring budget before moving on to a string of "someone else's" British cars; being the fastest guy who never "made it"; the beauty of the Formula Ford; and March-ing forward from the unexpected end of his motor racing career to become a storied and successful coach for future greats of the sport. Alex and George then talk about the beginnings of the Hall of Fame, the voting process for new inductees, their museum at Daytona International Speedway, and the power of the can't-buy experiences that only the Hall of Fame can put together. Alex interviews Jay Gillotti—previously the author of Gulf 917 —about his new book, Porsche Decades , which seeks to illuminate the first 75 years of Porsche as well as the last 75 years that new fans of the marque are likely more familiar with. They talk about the four-year process of writing the book; switching from historical depth to historical breadth in an effort to also increase the breadth of the Porsche community; correcting a longstanding lapse in one's Porsche experience; how to pronounce "Huschke von Hanstein"; the journey to collectibility that (almost) every Porsche model takes; how to rope Miles Collier into writing the introduction to your book; how writing music informs writing books; and the evergreen nature of a 3.2 Carrera. Both of Mr. Gillotti's titles can be previewed and purchased at Daltonwatson.com . Got questions for the BaT staff or suggestions for our next guest? Don’t hesitate to let us know! In BaT Podcast Episode 84, Alex interviews the overwhelmingly knowledgeable Kim Barnes, who is the business development manager for vintage tire fitments at Michelin as well as a concours judge, car and motorcycle collector, and all-around friend of BaT. They talk about her love of cars as a child of the '60s and '70s, stemming in no small part from the split-window Corvette driven by her aptly named second-grade teacher, Miss Passion; keeping an AMC Gremlin trading card for decades until finally acquiring the real thing; starting a Schwinn bicycle restoration business in her mother's townhouse at the age of 12; daily driving an MGB GT for 350k miles; the highly effective, at least for one teenager, automotive product placement in Charlie's Angels; starting out on the auto show circuit at 16; being forced to take Home Ec instead of auto shop in school; the importance of mentoring young people; meeting her husband on a blind date predicated only by their mutual car enthusiasm; her path to her dream job at Michelin; fightin' words about stock vs modified tire sizes; a deep, deep dive into the various ranges of classic tires offered by Michelin; a simplified explanation of the main difference between bias-ply and radial tires; getting into concours judging via her own restored Sunbeam Alpine; tracking her Buell Thunderbolt; and skipping right to the top of the 964 heap. <span data-mce-type="bookmark" style="display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;" class="mce_SELRES_start"> </span><span data-mce-type="bookmark" style="display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;" class="mce_SELRES_start"> </span><span data-mce-type="bookmark" style="display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;" class="mce_SELRES_start"> </span> The full episode is linked above—or you can listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, or wherever you get your podcasts. Alex, Randy, and Zac bring New Blood into the New Game. Howard joins the crew after an extended hiatus to recap our largest Monterey Alumni Gathering yet, talking about favorite cars and sandwiches from the event, seeing how "the other guys" do things during Car Week, the ominous sight of too many AMG 6x6s in one place, the continuing search for the perfect Corkscrew shuttle, and two more upcoming BaT events to round out the year. They then move on to the matter at hand: picking the best cars from 1995 in several crucial categories, proceeding to argue about them, and capping them off with a veritable host of honorable mentions. In episode 81 of the BaT Podcast, Alex, Randy, and Zac reunite to Try a New Thing: game time! The One-Year Garage requires them to pick one car from a certain model year for each category: Sports Car, Family Hauler, Truck/4x4, Daily Driver, and Wild Card. They make up the rules as they go along, and along the way discuss local trivia about The Graduate; a two-tone requirement for Randy's future car collection; whether it's necessary to remember the names of one's offspring; dieting to fit in your diminutive daily driver; a little-known fact about the '67 Mustang; an episode-long argument [ you're both right! -Ed. ]; a heated debate about what constitutes a sports car [ you're all right! -Ed. ]; how said definition relates to the owner's heart health; and the undying question, "how wild is wild?" Alex and Randy sat down back in February with legends (there's really no other way to put it) of the vintage Porsche world, Vic and Barbara Skirmants of 356 Enterprises. They discussed the reasoning behind buying the same car three times, all for more money than the last; Vic starting out with a '58 coupe in 1963; getting into racing via flag duty at Waterford Hills in Michigan; "meeting" each other at Mid-Ohio in 1988; their mutual lengthy histories driving and crewing at races for decades; the 2022 repurchasing of Barbara's Sunbeam Tiger, first bought by her in 1969; matching owners with the long-lost original transmissions for their cars; the dying art of ring and pinion setup; sticking with what matters in listing photos and videos; the advantages of a country life with everything paid for; the highs and lows of paddock setup at the race track; two cents, or possibly more, about Rennsport; remaking vintage transaxle parts to keep special cars on the road; owning not one, but two Gmund coupes in the '70s, one of which was sold to Miles Collier; and Vic's early days as a refugee from World War II Latvia. Please excuse the audio quality in this episode; we experienced some technical difficulties which have since been resolved.
