About this episode
Send us a text Today's podcast guest is Masters Swimming Australia Mental Health Ambassador - New South Welshman Paul Bailey. We talked about how Paul discovered masters swimming as a form of self therapy to recover from depression, alcohol and Xanax addiction. Having that daily commitment to swimming and exercise, and surrounding himself in the wonderful masters community all contributed to his recovery. As a tribute to others suffering from depression, Paul has started swimming a 10km butterfly swim every few months to highlight mental health awareness. We chatted about his training for these swims, how he approaches them and what he hopes to achieve by completing them. During the Covid pandemic, mental health has been highlighted even more, and it is inspirational people like Paul who are de-stigmatising this silent disease.
