LLN Episode #44: Patricia Carr - How to Heal from Childhood Scars So You Can Actually Live a More Joyous Life

About Patricia Carr: Patricia is a Professional Coach with Erickson International, an accredited coach training institute; as well as a member of the International Coach Federation, the leading global organization dedicated to advancing the coaching profession. Patricia is also a Certified Family Constellation facilitator with the Family Imprint Institute specializing in systemic coaching, which looks back into the family system to get to the root cause of what gets us stuck. Her mission in life is to share what she has learned to help women make sense of what is getting in their way so they can connect back to their own inner power. She believes that understanding where our pain points come from is the key to help pivot our lives to find a new perspective, healing, and empowerment. What We Discuss In This Episode: Patricia shares her childhood challenges and how they affected her. She found herself in an abusive relationship that affected her health and lifestyle. She found herself asking, "How did I get here; who am I?" At this point, she went through therapy. a lot of research and self-help books to find where all this was coming from. As a systemic coach, she now knows that we have to look back into the family dynamics. Our early childhood is where we learn our values and belief, as well as our coping mechanism. The beliefs, values, and coping values no longer work in life as we age. Patricia connects the dots to see what's really going on. Beliefs and values are subconscious – the little voice in our head telling us how we're going to manage, etc. The more we can understand these old systems, the more we can evoke change. As a systemic coach, Patricia goes back two generations to find patterns of behavior. For example, what kind of support system did your parents have and what was relationship their relationship like with their parents? We talk about why people finally seek out help. Maybe something has triggered them to realize they need help. Patricia teaches her clients to have a relationship with themselves and how to get their inner power back. She dives into what the whole family structure is to dig down into the nitty-gritty to learn new patterns. A lot of the work she does is somatic (relating to the body, especially as distinct from the mind). Patricia teaches people to "parent" themselves as they may not have had that in early childhood. We may not have the coping mechanisms in place or know how to set boundaries. But Patricia teaches her clients how to deal with all of these issues to help with the healing process so that we can live that healthier and happier life.
