Wayne is a 39-year-old software developer who has worked for a Credit Union for 13 years. He lives with his wife and their two daughters, aged 7 and 8. Despite never being overweight and actively participating in CrossFit, Wayne only began to seriously consider his health and nutrition eight years ago. Previously, he followed the standard American diet without much thought. In 2016, Wayne experienced a case of optic neuritis in his left eye and was treated with IV steroids in the hospital for five days. Although his MRI at the time didn't reveal anything alarming, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in November 2022. This diagnosis coincided with his years of learning and practicing a ketogenic diet, albeit a 'dirty' version. For the past year, Wayne has been dedicating himself to learning about inflammation, nutrition, and the microbiome. He is currently following a Carnivore diet supplemented with fermented foods to reduce inflammation and manage his MS. Follow-up MRIs on his brain and spinal cord have been encouraging, showing no new or active lesions, and all but one spot has disappeared from the scans. Wayne believes the remaining spot was not detected in the initial scan due to the lower resolution of the scanner used at the time. Wayne is also a client of Dr. Sean O'Mara, a guest on the podcast, and is working with him to eliminate his Visceral Fat (VF). Wayne believes that reducing his VF will also lower his inflammation. So far, his follow-ups with Dr. O'Mara have shown a significant reduction in VF. Wayne's primary aim in discussing his experience is to share the positive impacts of the Carnivore diet on his health, especially in relation to his MS, in the hope that it might resonate with others facing similar challenges.
