Young African-Americans moving from racial politics, civil right to 'individual rights, individual success, merit,' civil right activist

Ward Connerly, Founder and President of the American Civil Rights Institute, discuses the weaponization of race and state of politics in America. The long-time critic of Affirmative Action, says that the time has come to move on from this “poisonous” policy, saying that many misunderstand the ending of Martin Luther King’s famous ‘I Have a Dream speech’, commenting ‘free at last free at last’, with “that with freedom, there is an obligation or responsibility to pursue your happiness within the framework of what this country provides. But it's based on competition, and a lot of our problems right now are based on the failure of people to take advantage of the opportunities that are there.” Connerly comments that there is a generational shift happening within the younger African-American community, moving away from “civil rights” to “individual rights, individual success, and merit”.
