406. Journal Club: The BPROAD Trial with Dr. Keith Ferdinand

The BP ROAD trial randomized 12,821 patients 50 years of age or older with type 2 diabetes, elevated systolic blood pressure, and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease to receive intensive treatment that targeted a systolic blood pressure of less than 120 mm Hg or standard treatment that targeted a systolic blood pressure of less than 140 mm Hg for up to 5 years. Investigators found a significant reduction of major cardiovascular events with intensive blood pressure lowering. This episode dives into the nuances of the data and clinical implications. This episode was planned in collaboration with the American College of Cardiology Section of the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease with mentorship from Section Chair Dr. Eugenia Gianos.
