Gary Glass was entrenched in the world of homebrewing. What began as a hobby soon turned to a career, where he spent 20 years at the Brewers Association, including a long stint as the director of the American Homebrewing Association. When COVID-19 struck and the Brewers Association laid off a significant portion of its staff, Gary was included in that group and pondered what he would do next. He wanted to stay involved in the brewing industry and thought about doing sales, but an opportunity presented itself at Lefthand Brewing, the venerable Colorado brewery that has cornered the craft market on nitro stout. It wasn’t far from his house and Gary was able to begin as a brewer, his first professional job in beer, where he’s spent the last nearly two years proving himself, working hard, and learning processes. Earlier this summer that work was rewarded as he was named head brewer. From starting off on malt extract to now running logistics on hundreds of barrels at a time, it’s been quite the journey, and we’ll start at the beginning.
