Erik Johnson returned to Ball Arena for the first time since departing from the Colorado Avalanche, and you could see why he meant so much to this organization and the fans in a tribute that was perfectly presented. Even before the game, EJ needed a minute to collect himself as the emotion of returning to the arena he called home for 13 years was overwhelming. Everyone was happy to see the former Av defensemen, but nobody was going to give him or the Sabres a walk in the park. Once the puck dropped the Avalanche went right to work. Scoring three goals in the first and then closing things out in the third. Along the way, Sam Malinski netted his first career goal, and Nathan MacKinnon got his 800th point on an assist to Val Nichushkin goal which turned out to be Nuke's 100th goal.
