Ullmark Traded to Senators: Did the Bruins Get Enough?

Minutes before Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, the Boston Bruins traded goaltender Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators for forward Mark Kastelic, goaltender Joonas Korpisalo and a 2024 first-round draft pick (25th overall). Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren argues while it's great to get back into the first round, and Ottawa is retaining 25% of Korpisalo's salary, the return for the 2023 Vezina Trophy winner is underwhelming. Ullmark for a late first would have been fine, and late first to take Korpisalo's contract is reasonable, but altogether, it's not great. Ullmark not immediately signing an extension with the Senators surely diminished the return, and there's questions about whether Korpisalo will stick around (which we'll discuss in a future episode).
