At COP26 in Glasgow in the first two weeks of November, government officials from around the world will gather to discuss plans for achieving the Paris agreement on climate change. A key issue on the table is Article 6, which involves international cooperation through carbon markets. In this episode of ESG Insider, we talk with Kelley Kizzier, who was a lead Article 6 negotiator at previous COP gatherings, including in 2015 when countries reached the Paris agreement on climate change. Kelley, who is currently vice president for global climate at the Environmental Defense Fund, also recently joined the board of directors of the Taskforce on Scaling Voluntary Carbon Markets. Kelley explains why Article 6 matters to companies and investors. She also outlines how Article 6 could affect voluntary carbon markets, where companies buy carbon credits to help meet their net zero goals.
