RED SOX POSTCAST: Lowe Tried to be the Hero; Sox Hit NEW LOW

The Red Sox (68-59) closed out their homestand with a 4-3, 11-Inning loss to the Baltimore Orioles. The Sox were swept in the brief 2-game series and have lost 3 straight games. The Sox tied the game up with 2 in the 9th on a 2-run Home Run from Nathaniel Lowe but could not bring in the winning run. The Sox went 2-3 on their homestand and are now on the road for the next 8 games. ----- Sox at the Dish: The Sox had the leadoff man reach in each of the 1st 3 Innings against Tomoyuki Sugano but did not score in the 1st 2 Innings. Connor Wong led off the 3rd with a Single and eventually scored on a Balk from Sugano. Oriole pitchers combined to retire 11 straight hitters heading to the 8th Inning. The Sox loaded up the bases with 2 Singles and a walk. Rico Garcia came into the game and struck out Jarren Duran (on 3 pitches), Trevor Story, and Masa Yoshida. The Sox tied the game at 3-3 in the Bottom of the 9th on a 2-run Home Run from Nathaniel Lowe, his 1st hit with his new club. The Red Sox had the bases loaded and 1 out in the 10th but Abraham Toro hit into an inning-ending double play. Down a run in the 11th, the So got Nate Eaton to 3rd with less than 2 outs but Roman Anthony Flied Out to center and Alex Bregman popped up on the infield for the game's final out. ----- Buehler on the Bump: Walker Buehler worked in and out of traffic over his first 4 Innings in making the start against the Orioles Tuesday night. Buehler left runners stranded at 2nd and 3rd in the 4th Inning and the Orioles left 6 on base over the 1st 4 Innings against the Sox starter. Buehler departed in the 5th after giving up a leadoff Double to Jackson Holliday, a walk to Luis Vazquez and not recording an out. Justin Wilson entered, and Holliday scored and tied the game at 1-1 on an RBI Single from Ryan Mountcastle. Colton Cowser knocked in Vazquez with an RBI Double and that closed the book on Buehler. He gave up 2 earned runs over 4+ Innings. He walked 4, struck out 4 and ended up with a no-decision. ----- The Veteran Closer- Aroldis Chapman walked 1 and struck out 3 in the Top of the 10th Inning and picked up his 5th win of the season. Chapman has now allowed only 2 runs over his last 35 outings (6 ER over 48 Innings). ----- #'s of the Night: --The Sox went 0-for-13 with RISP and left 13 Runners on Base. --The Sox are now 7-12 in extra-inning games and 6-4 at home in extras. --The Sox recorded their 16th consecutive sellout with a crowd of 37,435 for Tuesday night's finale against the Orioles. ----- What's On Tap?: After Wednesday's off day, the Red Sox open up a 4-game series against Yankees Thursday night in the Bronx. Lucas Giolito and Luis Gil are the scheduled starters for the series opener. The Red Sox will be in Baltimore for a 4-Game Series at Camden Yards, starting next Monday.
