S3 Ep74: Teens Teaching Teens TMS: Anxiety, Stomachaches, Migraines and More

Today we have something long overdue in the sense that we’ve been wanting to talk about it for a couple of years, but we knew we had to get it right when we did. Teenagers have never been our target audience, and it’s not because they don’t need these tools as much, and often more, than adults. I hear so often from concerned adults who badly want to help the young people in their lives get relief from chronic symptoms: Anxiety, migraines, stomach problems, and so many other struggles. Most of you listening already understand the relationship between perfectionism, achievement, self-criticism, and all the qualities we know are the breeding ground for TMS. So many teenagers find themselves in this debacle. But being a parent myself, I know you have to talk to teens differently - find them where they are, break through to them and build credibility in a different way. One night, Lisa and I were talking about all of this and her teenage daughter, Kate, got involved in the conversation. She broke the news: the only people teenagers will take their information from is other teenagers. We knew she was right. Not only is Kate an awesome communicator, she has her own TMS story. After a childhood of debilitating stomachaches that sidelined her in the most important areas of her life, the pain mysteriously ended (anyone who knows about the Symptom Imperative knows it wasn't mysterious) and she began struggling with anxiety and a feeling of being stuck. It was then that she began to JournalSpeak and saw, as she describes, "magical" changes in her life. She is now officially a member of TCFCP Team - our first teen ambassador.
