Unclogging Arteries: Surgery or Broccoli? | Dr. Ted Barnett

"I can fix your arteries with balloon angioplasty and put a stent in there or I can fix it with broccoli." Those are the words of Dr. Ted Barnett who calls himself the "High-Tech Doctor With Low-Tech Solutions." Carving out a career has been a delicate walk for Dr. Barnett who practices as an interventional radiologist but would much prefer to treat patients with affordable fruits and vegetables rather than expensive and invasive procedures. While the former still pays the bills, Dr. Barnett and his wife volunteer their time at the Rochester Lifestyle Medicine Institute, which he co-founded. It is there that he is able to write prescriptions for produce that are often more effective than the medicines patients were previously prescribed. One of the newer methods of treatment offered by Dr. Barnett is a 15-day intervention to address the root cause of potentially life-threatening chronic illnesses. The courses are now being offered on a global level.
