(12/6/23) Markets "slopped" around on Tuesday, preparing to fulfill our prophecy of a market correction in early December. Corrections can also be a consolidation, with sideways market action for a period. Markets have not been able to break out of a trading range over the past ten trading days. Stock buybacks that began in November have been a large contributor to market activity; those will end on Friday when the buyback window closes for the current quarter, and the market loses one of its major drivers. Markets remain elevtaed just enough to forestall a Sell-signal from triggering. Volume will begin to markedly taper starting next week, heading into Christmas, and buybacks go away. From a rick-management perspective, continue to be cautious about market exposure. Now is a great time for tax-loss harvesting, profit takeing, and reducing overweight positions.
