Are Tech Stocks Ready to Rally after their Recent Beating?

(1/11/22) Tech Stocks were under the gun in Monday morning's action, but by midday, the sector experienced a turnaround, breaking through three standard deviation levels from the 50-DMA. This is a short-term bullish set-up for the Nasdaq. Bollinger Bands have compressed a good bit. A rally here should start to spread those bands. Concerns over interest rates, inflation, and Fed liquidity should suggest a bit more choppiness in the index. This would be a good time to pick through the rubble for stocks that have had their valuations reduced because of recent selling. The not-so-good-news is that the 20DMA has crossed below the 50-DMA from a technical basis, so there will be some challenges for the Nasdaq: overhead resistance from moving averages, and money flow sell signals would indicate selling pressure remaining on this index. Now is the time to look through the Nasdaq for some potentially longer-term opportunities following their big declines over the past several months. Downside risk does remain if the Fed maintains its aggressive stance.
