(4/11/23) The NASDAQ has been on fire this year, rising sharply as the top ten stocks make up about 80% of the return of the S&P this year. That's an amazing performance after laster's swoon in FAANG stocks, and the pronouncement of the NASDAQ as dead. a 30% advancein the NASDAQ is quite the resurrection. The S&P is currently up 7% for the year, but would only be ahead 2% without those NASDAQ stocks pushing things along. Which is why we sold off our Q's holdings for two reasons: This rally has been very sharp since the beginning of the year, and that trend remains bullish; but as we enter earnings seasons, expectations are a little on the lofty side, with propfit margins expected to expand by 140-bp; and expectations for earnings continue to outpace markets. But since technology stocks depend so greatly on consumer spending, where's the money going to come from to support sales predictions based on 2021-22 perfomrance, which was sustained by stimulus funding? Secondly, we're close to triggering a sell signal from a very high level. Historically, such signals have led to a correction. which would be a better buying opportunity to add positions in tech stocks for our portfolios.
