(1/12/23) Inflation numbers were expected to come in softer than expected [NOTE:This report was recorded prior to CPI release, clocking in with a 6.5% increase over last year, but a 0.1% decrease from the prior month.] A weaker CPI print would suggest the Fed might be closer to being done with its rate hike campaign than not, despite very clear signals from the FOMC that they're not anywhere near being "done." Markets are already performing well, technically; we had a "trifecta" of negative returns for 2022, a Santa Claus Rally (barely), and the January Indicator of very positive action in the first five days of the month. Historically, with these indicators, the full-year returns have been positive.
