Markets rallied in the morning and faded in the afternoon on Wednesday, which was no surprise: Markets are still overbought, wrestling with a momentum sell signal, and futures are flat ahead of Friday's BLS employment report. Markets anticipate the number will be weaker than expected, adding to the trend of weaker economic performance. If that's the case, markets could perform better, interpreting the data to foreshadow a lowering of interest rates sooner than later. (A stronger jobs report could ignite a sell-off, as rate cuts would be expected to be pushed back later in the year.) Markets are very close to all-time highs, with some Wall Street analysts pushing for S&P 7,000 by the end of the year. Similarly, the Mag-7 have come roaring back in the Nasdaq, and that index is also approaching new, all-time highs. Markets may continue to struggle to make gains, unlike the major moves we saw in April, but there's no reason to be negative on markets, presently; expectations for a retracement to recent lows is very slight. "Buy the Dip" should be the function for investors for now.
