Why the Russell Index is Still in Bear Market Mode (2/7/24)

(2/7/24) The data proclaiming cheap valuations in international markets, emerging markets, and small-cap/mid-cap markets may be true...but...a longer look at markets' performance provides a clearer picture: Looking back three-years, the S&P is hitting all-time highs, despite having gone nowhere within that time frame. The real performance, however, has been in the tech-heavy NASDAQ. So over the past two years, investors in the S&P and NASDAQ have made money. But in the Russell 2000 index of small- and mid-cap companies, the story is much different. Their peak was in 2022, and the index continues to languish in a bear market, and has drastically underperformed the S&P and NASDAQ, with similar results for emerging industrial and international markets. Even Gold, which is holding up okay currently, but has not much prospered investors over the past three years. With earnings being driven by just one sector (we're looking at YOU, Tech), there still exists a huger bifurcation between the NASDAQ and the other markets.
