Futures Pointing Higher Ahead of CPI Release (2/14/23)

(2/14/23) [NOTE This report was recorded prior to this morning's release of CPI clocking-in at a hotter-than-expected .5% for January.] Futures had been pointing higher ahead of this morning's CPI release after bouncing off the 20-DMA yesterday in a rally within a downtrend from recent highs. This hotter number could weigh on the market as hotter inflation would signal the Fed to remain aggressive in its rate hike campaign, especially after January's strong employment report. The Fed is expected to raise rates to as much as 5.5%, counter to markets' expectations of rates to come down sooner than later. Watch for a shift in market expectations on rates that will affect asset prices in the near term. Money flow indicators have triggered a sell signal, suggesting a correction in asset prices over the next few weeks.
