(8/8/23) Oversold markets had a nice rally in an assault on the 20-DMA, but are set to open lower this morning, technically a failure to test that level. This would suggest a lower low for the markets, on their way now to challenge the 50-DMA. The MACD Sell Signal is still firmly intact at a fairly elevated level, suggesting that there's more work to be done in the normal price oscillation. Action is likely to trend sideways for a while, allowing moving averages to catch up to the markets themselves. Markets need a breather--and the view from the 50-DMA may hold a clue for the next step. If markets can turn it around and retest the 20-DMA successfully, then we can go on to test the recent highs. If not, the 50-DMA will be the next target for the decline.
