(4/20/23) With the first week of Earnings Season pretty much in the bag, results have been pretty much what you'd expect: Beating estimates. But what about companies like Tesla and Netflix, who missed estimates, but for which stocks are not going down? The bullish momentum in the markets is supporting asset prices, regardless. The buy signal is now getting a bit long in the tooth, suggesting some weakness in the markets could show up by next week, and setting up for a pullback. Real Estate and Financials remain the most over-sold stocks; Energy, Healthcare, Utilities, and Technologies are over-bought relative to Real Estate and Financials. A dis-inflationary, slower-growth environment is going to be good for companies that have the ability to grow earnings, like Technology, Communications, and Staples. During a rotation in the markets, watch money moves from over-bought sectors to some of the most over-sold sectors because of the rotation from risk to safety.
