(6/13/23) The CPI for May shows inflation slowing from 4.9% to 4.0% year over year, which investors hope will allow the Fed to pause in its interest rate hike campaign against inflation. With a continuation of its pause, Markets interpret that to be one step closer to future rate cuts. Markets rallied accordingly on Monday. Markets are well into three-standard deviations above the 50-DMA, and more than 10% above the 200-DMA. Softer inflation numbers could spur markets higher, but the longer that trend extends, the more likely a correction will occur. Use rallies to reduce risk, and take pull back opportunities to add risk.
