About this episode
Episode 060 of F-Stop Collaborate and Listen with Mike Mezuel! If you're into storm chasing, storm photography, tornadoes, lightning, and road adventures, this episode is for you! I had a lot of fun chatting with Mike. Although Mike currently lives in north Texas, he was originally born in the small town of Rome, New York. He moved to Texas at a young age, but says he has never worn (and never will) a cowboy hat, cowboy boots, or said, “ya’ll.” He got his first camera at the age of 15. It was a 1975 Yashica MG-1. He graduated from The University of North Texas in 2008 with a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice and obtained his Master’s in Journalism back in December of 2012. When he's not out with his camera, he enjoys playing hockey. Mike is a well-traveled storm photographer and just picked up a gig to photograph the volcano eruption in Hawaii. We covered some great topics this week, including: 1. How Mike got into landscape photography. 2. Photographing tornadoes and extreme weather. 3. The process of improvement as a photographer. Over on Patreon this week, Mike and I had a fabulous conversation about his recent trip to Hawaii to photograph and document the devastation caused by the volcano there. It was an emotional trip for Mike - we talked about what it was like photographing such destruction. Please consider supporting the podcast on Patreon !
