Not in the Shakespearean sense, but in the world of watches, what we call these things that we strap to our wrist can have an outsized impact on how we perceive them. We take Zach Weiss’s recent review of the Grand Seiko SBGE225 as the jumping off point to try to decide what, exactly, this watch is, sitting somewhere adjacent to a travel watch, a sports watch, and even a dive watch. In the end, does it really matter? Does a watch need to fit neatly into a certain genre for it to hold an appeal, or is the opposite true?
