What happened to the importance of draft picks in the NBA and other pro sports?

On Sunday, we saw the Magic trade 4 first round picks and a player for Memphis’ Desmond Bane…we’ve seen in previous years the T’Wolves trade 4 first round picks to the Jazz for Rudy Gobert, and the Clippers traded SGA and 5 first round picks to the Thunder a few years ago (what an idiotic trade THAT was).. It’s not as bad in the NFL (at least not the past year or 2)…but why are seeing such drastic amounts of first round draft picks traded?
